  1. I too had no trouble - got all the seats I wanted with no problem, there were even some In Rehearsal tickets available, but not on dates I could go. As with others, I was expecting it to be a stressful morning, really sorry for those who had problems.
  2. Many thanks for your information, my granddaughter is only just 2, so will have to wait a year or so. At the moment she loves my DVD of the original Beatrix Potter ballet. Hope you all enjoy it. The pictures were lovely as usual. Margaret
  3. I would love to know what age this is intended for - just thinking of my granddaughter in the future - still a bit young at the moment. Also how long is the performance? Margaret
  4. Has anyone bought one of the opera houses 'digital guides' - if so, what do you think of them. I have just signed up for The Winter's Tale, but it is not yet complete, so I was a little disappointed - the title of one option - rehearsals - suggested that there would be footage, but there is only some photographs taken in the studio. Still it does have a good synopsis, which will be useful. Margaret
  5. I first saw Fonteyn and Nureyev in Marguerite and Armand in 1965 - it was a magical experience which still lives on in my memory. They were both such stars and so well known by the general public - I have to admit that it was Nureyev I was most interested in seeing, but was blown away by Fonteyn's performance. I think the only dancer who came anywhere near that performance was Tamara Rojo. The onlyother time I saw them dance together was in 1969 in Sleeping Beauty, though I saw Nureyev later at the Coliseum. Both great dancers - wonderful memories. Margaret
  6. I went to my first ballet in about 1950 to see International Ballet (Mona Inglesby's company) perform The Sleeping Princess at Coventry Hippodrome. The programme is a general one with lots of pictures, but no specific dates, so I am not sure who was dancing. I was about 8 and completely mesmerised and thrilled by the occasion, according to my mother. In 1961 there was Festival of Ballet at the same place and there were many famous names dancing including Anton Dolin, Natalia Krassovska and Carla Fracci, a wonderful evening. Margaret
  7. Sorry to hear about problems booking this morning - I was lucky and got the seats I wanted for Winter's Tale without any problems. Alas as usual there were no seats for any of the 'In Rehearsal' events. Margaret
  8. Not exactly a fight, but there is a scene in Firebird where apples are thrown? Margaret
  9. I've just been watching the original film of 'Tales of Beatrix Potter' with my grandson - there is certainly some fighting over the food in the picnic scenes - does that count for one? Margaret
  10. I went with friends on Wednesday evening and a very enjoyable one it was. We enjoyed The Human Seasons, but felt it was rather overshadowed by the other two items and were not sure quite how it fitted with the title. Loved the other pieces - Chroma seems different each time I see it and the score is good. Rite of Spring is always fascinating - the patterns, movement and the score - so much to watch and listen too. A really good evening and a very full house.
  11. I am seeing this on Wednesday, so would love to hear about the programme - could anyone give me the running time, as it has not been given (even in the email I got last week)? Thanks Margaret
  12. Saw this at the cinema last night - what good evening it was. Wonderful performances from both Carlos Acosta and Marianela Nunez, both very expressive. It is great to see the closeups - you can see so much more detail than from our usual seats in the amphitheatre. All the cast seemed to be enjoying the ballet and especially Marianela, what a lovely smile she has I was particularly impressed by Ryoichi Hirano - wonderfully cast as Espada and with Laura Morera and also Yuhui Choe and Beatrix Stix-Brunnell. Margaret
  13. Booking went well for me this morning, apart from access to 'In rehearsal' and Insight events - no tickets at all, even though I was online at 10am. It must be nearly 2 years since I last got a ticket to one of these events. Margaret
  14. Any idea what kind of activities they put on for th children? Thanks Margaret
  15. I went to the show on Wednesday and enjoyed the variety of items danced, though I expect that some may not have come across well to those who do not know the ballets. The way the ballets were arranged, with intervening music was very effective. Lovely dancing from Carlos and Marianella, especially in Winter Dreams and Apollo - plus the fun of Diana and Actaeon. It was great to see Leanne in Manon and one of my favourite ballets - Requiem. A good evening, rather hot in the first half, but the air conditioning kicked in for the second half - I wonder how it was on Thursday when it was so hot in London? Margaret
  16. I am off to see this tonight - looking forward to it very much, especially after seeing these lovely photos (thanks to John and Dave) and reading the piece by Ismene Brown. Margaret
  17. Thanks for the information - I too am very glad I managed to get a ticket - they seem to be selling very fast! Margaret
  18. This sounds very interesting - thanks for the information Margaret
  19. Thank you for the information - it seems they are all being sold before 'ordinary' Friends have a chance. I will have to try public booking or else hope some might be released nearer to the date.
  20. Yes it was a smooth experience, got the tickets I wanted for main stage, but no 'In Rehearsal' tickets at all. I've not managed any for more than a year - they must be allocating more to higher Friends than they used to.
  21. I saw this, with a group of friends, from the front of the amphitheatre last night and enjoyed Raven Girl much more than I had expected, after reading all the comments. There was quite a mixed response from our group of 5 which mirrored the comments I had read. It did seem to lack coherence at times (eg not sure why the Raven Girl did not have her wings at the end?) but, as someone suggested, it is a fairy tale. The final pas de deux between Lamb and Underwood was really lovely. The effects were interesting and the view good, though a bit dark at times. As someone has mentioned, it could do with a bit of tweaking. I was glad I had seen it and enjoyed most of the performance, but not sure I would want to see it a second time. Symphony in C was a great joy and wonderful cast, especially Nunez and Soares in the second movement and Morera and Cervera in the last. Enjoyed seeing Hirano again, a very acomplished dancer and another chance to see Brian Maloney before his retirement. It is a lovely ballet to finish off my season and looking forward to the next. Margaret
  22. Saturday evening - what a wonderful performance. We were quite overwhelmed at the end - great cheers and many flowers. Lovely to see Mara Galeazzi before she retires, especially to see her again dancing with Edward Watson. She has given us so many special performances. Brian Maloney was also there as one of the Hungarian officers - again a wonderful dancer and so sorry he is going. It is difficult to add to what has been said about Edward Watson's performance - quite magnificent - we are so lucky to have him. Sarah Lamb and Mara Galeazzi were also superb in their roles and Ricardo Cervera as Bratfisch. I was also struck by the quality of Ryoichi Hirano's dancing and with Francesca Hayward as Princess Stephanie. A very memorable evening and a very enthusiastic audience. Margaret
  23. I think that was the performance I attended - wasn't sure of the date - but Dolin danced (Le Roi Soleil) and Carla Fracci with John Gilpin. A wonderful occasion - with many other great dancers. Margaret
