    Cake ideas

Pick a favourite colour, get two of those mini pointe shoes in that colour, you know the keyring type ones? Sew matching mini ribbons. Make two round cakes, ones slightly smaller than the other. Ice them in the favourite colour but slightly contrasting so the smaller one slightly paler. Stack cakes. Pipe happy birthday with mini pointe shoes placed artistically. Get some matching colour net and make a of it to circle the bottom cake. Decorate a bit. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/430375308111404712/ Sort of like this but less fancy and with actual mini pointe shoes. And maybe not pink! Hope that helped a little?
  2. I saw this last night. Monotones 1 had too many wobbles. I feel sorry for the dancer as everyone has bad days but the piece doesn't have that much of a climax in terms of choreography so those arabaseques need to be solid for the piece to be impressive. Monotones 2 was pretty. Nunez looked more solid and comfortable. It didn't stand out to me particuarly though. The Two Pigeons was delightful. Lauren Cuthbertson was beautiful and funny and I love Vadim so the two of them together made my evening. The pas de deux was lovely. I wasn't so sure about all the gypsy dancing just because it went on a bit in the same sort of format. However Laura Moera was fabulous. The men's gypsy costumes however looked awkward, almost like they were too tight. The pigeons were well behaved and for pigeons, very cute! Overall I'm glad they revived it, it was really nice to see something different and I did enjoy the evening. I never knew Ashton was so hard to dance it was a wonderful piece.
  3. Thank you, I was out there taking a photo of the view but I wouldn't know how to recognise you! I'm wearing a navy jumper
  4. I'm sitting in row p of the Ampitheatre tonight if anyone wants to say hi, my friend couldn't come I do have a fantastic view of the stage though!
  5. Yes I was just sort of thinking if the seats are empty anyway, would they l accept a bit more but not the whole difference of the tickets.
  6. Do you think they'd let me move for free or do you think Id have to pay the difference in price?
  7. So I might be going to see Two Pigeons at the ROH tonight. I've got a good offer for a cheap seat in the Ampitheatre. But it's slightly further back. It says online that there are a few other more expensive seats elsewhere that so far haven't sold. So I was just wondering if anyone knew if it was possible or had tried asking at the theatre whether they can sit somewhere better if there are seats still available tonight? So basically maybe upgrading my seat from further back to somewhere either further forward or lower down?
  8. Thank you everyone, I won't take the risk I'll go for the amphitheatre seats if we go. I'd be too embarrassed to ask for an inflatable cushion anyway! My dream seats would be in the Grand Tier but they are way too expensive, I had an offer for the stalls or I wouldn't even have considered it.
  9. Yes I had a look at that thank you but it doesn't have a photo with a tall person infront I was just hoping someone shorter might be able to help me out with a bit of personal experience in the matter. It's possibly for a friends birthday and as she's even shorter than me it would be a bit dissapointing if I booked the fancier tickets but neither of is could see!
  10. I'm pretty short and thinking about booking tickets for Two Pigeons at the ROH. So considering my height would I be able to see from row U, V or W in the stalls or would I be better off in row P or R in the amphitheatre? I don't mind the view from up there at all but I've got a really good deal for the stalls I might go for but only if I can see!
  11. I've done both and prefer Cecchetti, I feel like it's more 'dancey' than RAD so don't rule it out without trying it Honestly good ballet technique is the same everywhere though! There might be a few minor terminology differences if she were to switch but nothing difficult. Look for a good teacher, solid technique and a school with the right atmosphere. The exam syllabus isn't as important in the long run.
  12. Thank you everyone. I'm upset but you've given me hope I might be able to return at some point and not feel like a complete idiot. I have thought about driving but honestly it scares me at the moment! And I'd have to buy a car even if I eventually pass and I'd rather save to move into a city or something which is where I'm hoping to be sooner rather than later. The sleek technique thing looks more like a workout than an actual ballet class so I'm not sure it's quite worth my investment there per class but I'll definitely be seeking out the NYCB as at least that isn't at a set time. I've done Pilates before but the teacher round here isn't very nice so the NYCB or Darcy thing might be worth it. Which would you recommend? I can always give myself a barre class it's just having the discipline and I'll miss the social aspect of going to a ballet class. I've considered tap but that isn't really me and I've tried contemporary and hated all the rolling on the floor. Came out with an awful lot of bruises... Nothing replaces ballet unfortunately. I'm hard to please right! I love the running idea. I can't run outside as it really hurts my legs (shin splints!) but we have a cross trainer inside and I've started using that a bit so maybe I should just work on getting fit for the moment. I guess that's mildly productive. And I'll be saving money so I suppose I'll just have to go watch the ballet more often instead!
  13. Maybe I was having an emotional day. But I cried. I hadn't even thought it could be seen as creepy until you all brought that up. I just thought it was sad he was alone and sweet she wanted him to feel included in Christmas even if he couldn't be there. I've come across a lot of people, especially closer to my generation who have no patience for the elderly. I find it sad anyone should have to be lonely. Obviously we need to be wary but sometimes I think the media makes us overly cynical. Good for John Lewis for trying to raise awareness of the elderly who'll be spending this Christmas alone. Or every other day too probably.
  14. This should probably go into a 'no longer doing dance' section. After lots of searching I simply cannot find a class I can either get to or at a time that I'm not working. So I'm having to quit ballet I could do a very occasional open class in London but after already a few weeks without dancing I think I've probably lost a lot of skills and confidence so there probably wouldn't be much point. Not really sure why I'm posting other than maybe looking for suggestions of other forms of activity I should take up that might fill the void (unlikely) that are easier to get to?
  15. Capezio microfibre convertible ones last for ages. Some people complain about the waistband on them but they are really stretchy so shouldn't ladder too easily
  16. If she's good at looking after children babysitting can be a good way to start to earn a bit of extra money. That was my first job and I always see a lot of adverts up in our local shop of people offering babysitting services.
  17. They might have changed the sizing or I'm a really weird shape but last time I tried Bloch and Mirella on I think the Mirella ones were slightly larger. Maybe look online and see if they have a sizing chart?
  18. No idea how many steps it is but it feels an awfully long way if you walk up the Eiffel Tower. Probably because you can see all the way down too!
  19. I hope she feels better soon. You mentioned you didn't think she was eating properly, this can have a huge impact on how she might be feeling. Proteins and healthy fats are very important for the brain functions (speaking from experience!) PM me if you want some more details but I know a few things that might help as a start. A lot of people suffer the same sort of thing at university, once the reality of living alone hits after the novelty wears of it can get tough.
  20. But dancewear is so multi purpose! I always wear shorts underneath skirts and dresses (habit from my musical theatre days) but I have been known to wear a leotard out clubbing with denim shorts because it was pretty...
  21. You don't actually need to stick the ribbons in the flame. Hold the end close to it and it will melt nicely to stop them fraying but without the odd burnt colour. I learnt the hard way with nice black coloured ends to my ribbons...
  22. Thanks it looks great but I'm sort of looking for a private that is slightly closer to home. If I can make it to London I probably would just do an open class. Anyone know any teachers in the Surrey area willing to do a private lesson?
  23. Maybe it's because I don't have that many pairs to do but I actually quite enjoy sewing pointe shoes. I find it relaxing. Can't imagine trying to sort those tights though, that's one job I wouldn't be patient enough for!
