  1. also, perhaps given it’s increasing popularity, it’s time for the RB to think in the medium to long term about having its own dedicated venue rather than having its opportunities to perform limited by having to share a space with the RO.
  2. Is the “Success” message that pops up when something is successfully added to your basket a new addition?
  3. The result is that the Prince is rather under-utilised in this production. Unlike the RB version there is no Act 2 dance with his lady after the Blind Man’s Buff, rather she dances/cavorts in front of him (enough to make anyone think twice about taking that relationship any further). Then, after the party goes hunting there is no solo for the Prince to express his sadness and longing for his soulmate followed by the appearance of the fairy. Instead the fairy pops up as soon as the Prince is alone. The Prince does have one show stopping moment in Act 2 when he comes downstage in a straight line executing 3 x 360 degree tours en l’air with one arm above his head. Lachlan Monaghan, César Morales & Max Maslen all excuted this sequence with aplomb.
  4. “Hello BRB please tell me that I’m not going mad….when I saw SB in Southampton (Sat matinee) I’m sure it included the awakening pas de deux, yet this wasn’t danced last night in Birmingham. Am I correct? Thanks” “Hi Peter 👋, Don’t worry - you’re not going mad at all! The show was repeatedly running into overtime so was altered after Southampton. Hope that helps, All the best, BRB”
  5. Looking for a matinee ticket on 22 March. Circle standing would be great but will consider anything with an unrestricted view of the stage. (I have an evening ticket that I can swap too if that helps) Please send me a PM if you can help. Thanks
  6. am also interested in locating this offer…. Thanks
  7. Avanti have failed tonight. Anyone hoping to get the last train back to London after saying farewell to César Morales will find the train cancelled. Ive decided to go glass “half full” booked a cheap B&B and a ticket to tomorrow’s BRB matinee. (let’s face it, as things stand Birmingham could benefit from any inward investment, even my few pounds)
  8. Fumi may be another perfect partner for Vadim if there is such a thing but, I don’t think that Vadim is Fumi’s perfect partner. At least not yet. It’ll be interesting to see how their partnership develops as the season progresses.
  9. I sincerely hope not and that each will continue to be paired with other partners at the ROH.
  10. don't panic Mr Mainwaring, the Wells seems to have a habit of showing 'sold out' and then releasing additional tickets (perhaps house or agency ones), albeit not many and not necessarily cheap, in the week running up to a performance. my advice, keep checking the website if you want to go. that said, yes, credit to Spalding for his Friends/Members 20% discount on tickets which makes it possible to take a chance on the unknown, and to Barclays Bank for its generous young people's Dance Pass scheme for getting bums on seats where shows are harder to shift. more generally Ballet/Dance seems to be back in favour in London with the Kevin O'Hare & ROH having a very successful run with Nutcracker, Manon & Swan Lake sell outs not forgetting the recent ENB Nutcracker & Skeaping Giselle sellouts or thereabouts for Aaron S.Watkins. all hail ballet at its finest.
  11. @Jan McNulty knowing NB as you do, is there an obvious 'number 1' cast amongst those pairs? (I can only attend once while NB are in London)
  12. It’ll be terrific to see Zucchetti dance a substantial role again
  13. tonight we can look forward to James Hay subduing Ryo Hirano…
  14. IIRC the discussion was based on hearsay rather than documented evidence.
  15. Face value £14. please send a PM and leave a message if interested.
  16. there are 353 seats total for each performance. if as @zxDaveM suggests, 20-25% of the seats are kept back for PB, that would equate to 70-90 seats per performance plus any that are unsold during Friends booking.
  17. When I enquired at the box office yesterday I was assured that, as with the main house, a number of seats in the Linbury are held back for general booking. It was pointed out to me that these may sell quickly as the Linbury capacity is much less than the main house. *the box office couldn’t tell me how many seats are held back. the release of tickets for sale at any point is under the control of another department. (Sales??).
  18. Putting casting to one side, the only overlap is on 6 & 7 June with these programmes repeated on other dates so it is possible to see everything on offer. The programming does allow a person the possibility to see all 5 Ashton programmes (3 x Sarasota, 2 x RB) in just 4 days. Great for visitors from afar. For those people for whom it is easier to travel in for single performances the programming allows greater flexibility over a longer period of time. Only someone who wanted to see every step of every performance danced would be disappointed. This was the same with the recent New Choreography festival with programmes in both the main house and the Linbury making it impossible to see each and every performance of both programmes. Being in the Linbury does have the advantage that seats are reasonably priced at £5-£45 except the 8th June gala which is £10-£110 as one might expect but still well below main house ticket prices.
  19. I think the invitation for Sarasota to perform in London was extended by the ROH? The relevant people would have discussed the size, suitability (and availability) of venue to ensure that any programme presented would be given the best chance of success. Sadlers Wells does its own programming so unlikely to have been involved in the above. If Sarasota proves to be a popular and commercial success perhaps it will be invited to perform at Sadlers Wells at a future date.
  20. I wish Sarasota Ballet every success and will try to see them dance as I enjoy Linbury presentations. However, to play Devil’s Advocate for a moment, who?, beyond a few ballet lovers, has heard of Sarasota Ballet? If it wasn’t for all the doom and gloom about possible ticket scarcity on BcF I wouldn’t have known that it is potentially a ‘hot ticket’. And, in the end, it may be that there are enough tickets to go round. Far better surely to test the waters and have a sold out season in the Linbury (if indeed that happens) and have them return on the back of their success than have them dance in an empty main house.
  21. Is there the Birmingham equivalent of TodayTix or lastminute.com or a standby ticket scheme of some sort as there are lots of seats still available and I’m wondering how BRB/the Hippodrome is managing to get bums on seats late in the day?
  22. There was much to appreciate in last night’s performances: so many debuts, so many different emphasises and nuances in characterisations from what has gone before. Some hit the spot, some underwhelmed. For all that, I went home wishing that Fumi Kaneko had made her debut as Manon with William Bracewell as DG. Theirs is a special chemistry that i hope has not been consigned to history.
