  1. update: this para is included in the latest BRB e-newsletter : “We are thrilled for César and will let supporters know how and when we will be able to say farewell to him before he takes up his new role in March.”
  2. Does anyone have confirmation of Cesar’s last performance with BRB or has it been and gone? When I looked at the weekend Cesar was cast in Sleeping Beauty but now those dates are listed as TBC….
  3. in Mayerling the comic relief is provided by Bratfisch, Rudolph’s ‘fool or jester,’ in the Act 2 Tavern scene. The depth of Rudolph’s melancholy is underlined later in Act 3 when even Bratfisch is unable to raise a smile and despairs of cheering up his master even as Rudolph is dismissing him.
  4. because of a knee-jerk reaction by a staff member to all the calls received from forum members?
  5. if you look at the seats that have now become available you will see that they are all in pairs (unless one has been sold) at the end of rows and relatively close to exits. so, it does make sense that they were originally offered for sale only to access patrons. that they were not bought by access patrons when they went onsite could suggest that the higher ticket prices have made them unaffordable to many in this demographic who have limited income. if this is the case it is a real pity.
  6. box offices with telephone lines for are fewer and further between these days. all theatres have moved or are moving towards facilitating access members, as well as everyone else, booking online. a friend used to receive a booking form from the ROH but that has now been discontinued and they are able to book online. if it works as I think it does, your ROH system log-in will be 'coded' or 'flagged' so that you can buy seats appropriate to your 'coding' be it access customer, YROH, or your Friends Level purchase date.
  7. My point is that they are available for online booking to some people but not to everyone. in this instance it would appear to be access scheme members. Another example is when the Amphi is only available to YROH members. The ‘seats available’ numbers include these seats but if you proceed to the seating plan they are ‘greyed out’ and not available.
  8. all the ROH website needs is a message similar to the one in the Donmar Warehouse website: “If the performance you are looking for says it has limited availability but appears sold out, this will indicate that seats are not available for the general public.” when I looked just now this is currently the case for all Swan Lake performances up to and including April 12th. That said it is common for seats to be returned or those currently held off-sale to the general public to be released at a later date as may be the case e.g. with seats currently reserved for those people with access needs.

  10. No details as yet but if past years are a guide then a joyful pot pourri, a tasty smorgasbord, a chocolate box of hard and soft centres. Some will delight, some less so according to personal tastes.
  11. As always with any live performance. I’ve been to the Coliseum 6 times this past week and, if I’m right, only one of those performances had the advertised cast. And this was within a single Company. Extrapolate that up and it must be a nightmare organising dancers from around the globe for a Gala that has to be promoted months in advance. Especially if their schedules are decided for them by other factors. And that’s not allowing for unforeseen injury or geo-political events.
  12. Emma Hawes was exceptional in her debut as Giselle in today’s matinee. Breathtakingly beautiful in both Acts. Cast change for tonight: Gabriele Frola replaces Ken Suruhashi
  13. February 3rd matinee will be the 300th performance by the Royal Ballet at the ROH. Perhaps a cake then?
  14. Can someone tell me who will making their debuts in the main roles during this run? Thank you
  15. They’ve been on top form this week in Giselle
  16. In terms of what I saw on stage last night: Brava Katja Khaniukova Bravo Francesco Gabriele Frola Bravi Myrtha, Zulma, Moyna & the Willis Bravi Gavin Sutherland, Adolphe Adam and the ENB Philharmonic Most definitely an evening to treasure.
  17. Both the ROH & Sarasota Ballet websites say tickets available soon. No other details given. So, keep an eye out.
