  1. Yes, although it is his name that appears in the music credit. Again, I realise this but those are the credited names, and being a compilation doesn't exclude music from being rated as a ballet score!
  2. Not necessarily linked to this speculation, but out of interest did Fonteyn ever dance Lise in La Fille Mal Gardée? I couldn't find any such performance on her Wikipedia list, which I find quite surprising.
  3. I do like the score very much, but I wouldn't personally rate it as the best ever ballet score, or indeed the best non-PT one. For example, how about the Minkus scores for Don Q and La Bayadere , Massenet's for Manon, Herold/Lanchbery's for La Fille, or Adam's for Giselle?
  4. The Blu Ray version should be higher definition than the broadcast on BBC 4. Plus presumably there will be some "extras". I think I would have ordered it even if I hadn't stupidly deleted my recording in error 😕
  5. I do agree, but at least the List View thing is a helpful feature - and the ability to change a tablet view to a website view (not just for the ROH site) is very welcome, and is my technological learning point of the day!
  6. Your first suggestion got me fiddling around a bit, and I now find that if I open the three dots in the top right of the Chrome for Android screen there is a "desktop site" box which if selected makes everything nice and small (after which I can zoom in or out as required using two fingers, so to speak) and also shows the "List View" option on the ROH site in portrait mode. So thanks again...
  7. Thanks Lizbie, but I find that only lets me zoom in, not out. I don't need to make the ROH events display any bigger !
  8. Ruth we may have discussed this before but the Terms and Conditions say that later renewals are back-dated to start on the date the renewal otherwise would have taken effect.
  9. Whilst we await 14 May with baited breath, the ROH website events page referred to a performance of Evita on one day in August 2020. Now that information now seems to have been removed. Perhaps put up too early, or in error? Either that, or I am going mad...
  10. It isn't ideal, Bruce, but I would not describe it quite as dramatically as resetting my PC - I just use Ctrl with + / - keys to adjust the screen size up or down as and when! It is more of a problem on my (Android) tablet, though, as that has to be restarted to change the screen display size, and doing that doesn't seem to make much difference anyway. Also if the tablet is in portrait mode it doesn't show the "List View" option. "List View" shows in landscape mode but that is not convenient, and barely shows more than one event per screen even then.
  11. I see there is a List View option vs Full View. I am not sure this is a new feature or whether I missed it before. Full View gives just over 1 event per PC screen if my screen is set on 100%, whereas On List View, I get 3 events per PC screen - as opposed to 8 events per PC screen on the old pages (or 6 events on my tablet). With the new site, if I reduce PC screen size to 67% I get 5 events per screen still with a readable view, which is not too bad.
  12. Yes indeed, more of a duel than a duet! But I agree this was very compelling (as well as interesting in terms of the creative process) and I think it has the potential (perhaps strangely given the context) to be a quite beautiful, moving, sequence, aided by the haunting music. Presumably Perseus is trying to avoid meeting her direct gaze, but they did seem to look at each other a couple of times. No ill effects fortunately! Osipova looks formidable in this role, and I will also look forward very much to Takada's interpretation. From Juliet to Medusa in under a fortnight!
  13. I check it every day, if possible, and I am very grateful to those who kindly organise it - such a convenient and useful facility to find reviews of current productions. Many thanks!
  14. A reminder that this is going to be the subject of a live screened Insight next Tuesday 23 April. https://www.roh.org.uk/insights/insights-new-sidi-larbi-cherkaoui
  15. No longer live, but this is still currently available - I don't know for how long. https://www.mercecunningham.org/activities/night-of-100-solos/ Rather an eccentric 90 minutes, I thought, more to do with stasis than the sort of flowing ballet movement I prefer. I also believe dance works best with recognisable music, rather than random scratchy noises ! The work gave little expression of human emotion or interaction, making it difficult to feel empathy. I most enjoyed seeing the pink RB team, particularly Ms Hayward's umbrella dance and longer solo (yes, she is finally back!) , the striking Ms Stix-Brunell, and the powerful, adept, and up-and-coming Mr Sissens.
  16. A mini tranche of a few available tickets have appeared today, for 9 previously sold out dates up to 14 May.
  17. Jam Dancer, I wonder if you know if that is mainly an interest in more modern ballet forms, or does it also extend to the classical/neoclassical etc ?
  18. Strange...I also use Chrome on the PC, and have tried Firefox and Edge, but none of these get me a full list of what is on any particular day from the old month pages - for that I have to fiddle with the https address as indicated above. At least the old month page does (for me) successfully link to details of any individual performance on any particular day.
  19. The only way I have found to get to the old display of everything happening on a particular day is to manually change the link details eg 11 March 2019 = https://www.roh.org.uk/events/calendar/2019/03/11?_ga=2.210123029.1694789846.1552744106-235432184.1552744106
  20. [MODS...is it possible to change the title of this thread now we know the ballet's name?] Casting for "Medusa" is now here https://www.roh.org.uk/productions/medusa-by-sidi-larbi-cherkaoui Other than the Greek myth, do we have any clues yet as to what form the ballet will take? On the face of it, the two ladies chosen to play Medusa, Ms Takada and Ms Osipova, present quite a contrast in potential interpretations! Hair styling should be interesting...
  21. Sergei Polunin? I believe he is familiar with the format...
  22. Wow R&J seems to be set for an impressive run judging by the enthusiastic response to these early performances, and with some very interesting and impressive lead pairings to come (overall 10 different Juliets but rather fewer Romeos), all incredible dancers and each expected to bring their own artistic interpretation. Having to choose between casts has been pretty difficult although I suspect most of us have one or two that we don't want to miss and a few that we won't particularly mind missing. There are now limited booking options apart from watching out for returns, and Friday Rush. Last night ( virtually the same cast as the 28 March but Thomas Whitehead was Capulet rather than Gary Avis) was another amazing production and very enthusiastically applauded at the end by the Saturday night crowd. Akane Takada is such a beautiful dancer, and such a mesmerising Juliet, and is certainly cementing her own interpretation. I would definitely recommend catching her last performance on the 27 April if you can!
