    The cinema is great value, I think, although as previously mentioned the choice of casting is limited. Also the choice of close up shots is a matter of individual taste. Still, with this production virtually all the main RB leads were on show, and they all danced superbly, and the filming was really good quality. It felt like you were on stage with them at times. There seems to be a lot of love for Bernstein out there (it was good to see Humphrey Burton again, giving his personal, heartfelt insights into Bernstein) but I do struggle with most of his music. Much of it seems like a wandering series of notes and rhythms in search of a theme. Yugen, however, was lovely, perhaps because the music was a choral work, and because the dance was so well choreographed and performed. I particularly liked the force of nature that Tierney Heap became in the last piece! Also loved Sambe throwing Magri off stage left (or is it right ? - not sure) flying through the air. And some of the tableaus created when the dancers were grouped together were brilliant. I thought Ore Oduba hosted very well; he genuine appeared to be in his element.

    Except we can't be sure how long any of these younger principals will be fit, and available to the RB. Also the older leads that currently seem favoured for filming, were also featured on many DVDs when they were much younger ! So I am hoping for a wider selection for the 2018/19 season.....

    I don't think so; I think they mean the price mapping tool is "dynamic" - not the seat price itself - I gather we will be able to see all the different seat prices for different productions , before booking opens, online, rather than displayed on the static seating plans used up to now.

    Filming/streaming/DVDs seem to be very much focused on recording a few of the same, longer-serving principals.It would be good to have wider representation of some of the younger lead dancers but perhaps the RB goes for what they think will be most popular and generally better known.

    I know cinema screening dates are published, but I am trying to understand if there is a direct relationship between RB production dates that are listed as "filming", and the subsequent production of DVDs. Can we necessarily expect the latter from the former? And can a DVD only materialise from a "filming"?

    Watson will have been out for how long by 12 May? I wonder how serious an injury he has....most unfortunate. I imagine Bonelli will be quite a different Des Grieux.

    I agree - for me the dancing becomes lovely not just from the choreography, and the dancers' technique, athleticism and poise, but from its relationship with a story that you can connect with emotionally. Of course the story does not have to be wholly (or at all) believable in the real-world sense, but I think we should expect a certain degree of logic and meaning, within its own parameters, for a ballet to be fully successful. And discussing a few plot foibles along the way is part of the enjoyment!

    Certainly there is much in WT that is not really self-evident from the performance alone. For myself, I take it as read that I am not going to understand very much of any ballet (at least first time around) unless I have swotted up on the story first! I do love to see the mimes, where relationships etc. are explained, but again I tend to need a bit of helpful interpretation. Some of the Insights are great for that.

    I felt a bit safer further back... Actually the interactive use of the silk sheets, throughout, is a clever and effective device, and another big plus in the staging.

    Did you not get the free white cast/synopsis leaflet, bridiem? It explains that Paulina is the head of Hermione's household; also that Polixenes doesn't want his son, Prince Florizel, cavorting with/engaged to a mere shepherdess (not being aware initially of her real identity). One thing I would questiion, from the leaflet synopsis, is whether it is really likely that Paulina would have kept Hermione alive for 16 years, with Hermione's agreement as to being kept in hiding. Shakespeare's ending is ambivalent but the better alternative interpretation, I think, is that (after a suitable period of Leontes' penance and supplication !) Hermione is miraculously reborn from her statue. Be that as it may, this was another lovely performance by the whole cast, including (as mentioned by others) Mendizabal as a powerful stand-in for Morera, great dancing from James Hay, (who didn't even seem to break sweat) and just exquisite grace and style from Hayward. Sorry that Sambe was absent, though, and hope this is nothing serious.

    Pleased to see Don Quixote - but no immediate follow up for the new Swan Lake production - any comments ? I was rather hoping to see Hayward as Odette.

    Interesting, as I thought that was all sold out when I looked first thing today - perhaps there was some sort of initial hold-back similar to bbb's explanation re. Swan Lake. If you thought the Amphi seats for the Spring Gala are expensive, how about £250 - £350 for the stalls?!

    The first night of Swan Lake (Nunez, Montagirov) at the RB is already sold out for everything below the Balcony. We have gone for Takada and McRae on the first Saturday - pretty excited already!

    I'm definitely previous in terms of any announcement, but what I hoped was some discussion about people's hopes or expectations......

    Is it too soon to be discussing who has a good prospect of promotion in the Royal Ballet for next season? It seems these are usually announced about June or July but perhaps there is no harm in putting forward ideas a few months in advance. One thing I am not clear about - is there a cetain limit in the number of principals? I.e. 8 ladies, 8 gentlemen at present.

    Does anyone know when official details of the 2018/19 Season will be announced? And, pending that, does anyone have any idea (perhaps some advanced inside knowledge) of what is likely to be included?
