Royal Opera House booking period 1 experiences
RHowarth replied to JohnS's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I had a bit of a mixed experience - couldn't load the seating plans at first when I logged on at 9am, although only queued for 4 minutes. But when the plans did eventually load, I was really surprised to see how much availability there was. In fact, it was a bit overwhelming as I'm not used to seeing so much choice! Like other posters, I managed to get good stalls circle standing tickets for my chosen dates, which is rare through public booking. In fact, I logged back on this morning to book for a further performance, Romeo early matinee at 11.30am on 15 Jan, having realised I could tie it in with ENB's Raymonda at the Coli. I managed to snap up good SCS for this one too, which surprised me the day after public booking had opened. However, when I paid, not only did I have to verify through mobile app (which I hadn't had to do the day before) but the payment screen stated that I'd have to show ID when using the tickets. Has anyone seen this before? The performance was available through public booking (not Paul Hamlyn for example) and I didn't access any kind of concession.- 102 replies

I think she and Jonathan Cope had their natural hair, with added glitter, when they were filmed in the early 2000s?

Sorry to revive this thread, but can anyone remember the exact running time for Giselle? I am thinking of doing the double on 27 November but last train home is just after 8pm. I have in my head that Giselle is two hours and therefore I'd have ample time, but don't want to get caught out!

Yes it costs a fortune to get to London early on a weekday! I remember I actually travelled down on the Thursday and stayed overnight as, even including the hotel, it was cheaper than travelling on the Friday morning.

Bracewell did Romeo with BRB. I have a treasured memory of taking a half day off work for a Friday matinee and seeing him dance it with Delia Matthews.

Sounds like Tier 4 is like lockdown 2 - during which there were live streams. -
Dance studios listed as having to close during November lockdown

We had the same pallaver when the rule of 6 was brought in didn't we? But, reading the RAD guidance, they seem to have interpreted it that adult classes can only take place in tier 2 with your own household (!). -

I'm afraid I've heard not...what @DeveloppeDsays sounds like what I heard. My question was wishful thinking... -

Hi all, I know over 18s aren't allowed in dance classes in Tier 3, but does anyone know if private lessons are allowed for adults? I'm doing Advanced 2 with a cohort of under 18s and don't want to fall behind; it could be months before I'm allowed back in the studio... -
How do you purchase these? I can't find a way on their website.

Does anyone know if there's going to be another Everybody Ballet Instagram live stream, and if so, when it is? My internet detective work has been fruitless so far! -

It's handy to have on your phone for when something is niggling you and you want to check an arm or the timing of something.

Coronavirus and its impact on schools etc. in UK
RHowarth replied to Pas de Quatre's topic in Doing Dance
Hi Linn, the space was already booked for the session so no changes there - exams running to timetable in that space. I've been told the camera will be set up where the examiner's table would have been and it absolutely must be continuously filmed. Teacher will direct the exam in place of examiner but not allowed of course to make any comment, and I believe she needs to remain in view of the camera too. I'm told that as soon as the session is finished, the film will be sent digitally to RAD and think there is time sensitivity there. -

I am doing mine tomorrow and being filmed! I'm not sure the camera will be kind to me, nor how it will feel to be in an exam without the adrenalin of an examiner - but I'm so very relieved that it's happening! Ps been trying to like posts on this thread but my likes always disappear once I leave the page. -

I did Grade 8 and pre ele as a teenager and did the vocational work up to adv 1 but didn't do any vocational exams after pre ele. I did non syllabus classes while at university and after that moved to a new city and did Cecchetti inter. Then moved back to hometown and started doing RAD again with old teacher. Built my classes up until I was taking all the same classes as the teenagers were: two syllabus classes, 1 pointe and 1 body conditioning each week. At some point in this process the RAD changed the syllabus! Did Adv 1 on and off as there wasn't always provision for it in the timetable so sometimes did foundation instead. It was suggested to me several times that I entered for the exam but with one thing and another I didn't enter til this term. I'm not sure I really agreed to it even then, just found my name on the list! And now, best laid plans and all that as I've just had confirmation of postponement. -

Thank you. I'm 33 and, without going into detail on a public forum, life is complicated and I'm not sure I'll be able to postpone rather than cancel, so I've got everything crossed although not holding out much hope. -

When was your session? I'm due to do Advanced 1 tomorrow and waiting with bated breath....
