News about Phoenix Dance Theatre
RHowarth replied to Jan McNulty's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
The final performance of that programme is tonight, Sheila, at Northern Stage. It is indeed very worrying. -
Help choosing ROH seats
RHowarth replied to CathyG's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Emeralds, in 2013 a Bolshoi musician died after falling into the orchestra pit. I presume the grid at the ROH was introduced in response to that. -
Royal Ballet Announces 2022/23 Season
RHowarth replied to a topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
I would guess two reasons - firstly that they are frequently performed and so known by many of the dancers, and so don't require as much rehearsal given that it's the start of the season and dancers have been on summer break. Secondly because in comparison with for e.g. Petipa, they are not the most demanding in terms of classical technique, which again is helpful after a long summer break. -

Royal Ballet Spring Casting 2022 - and booking
RHowarth replied to a topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
That explains how I managed to snap up a pair of very central SCS yesterday afternoon! -
I wonder if the fact that they are inviting audience members to visit the bars throughout the performance is because they are trying to avoid large crowds gathering there during the interval. I have had an email from another venue reminding the audience that they don't need to wait until the interval to visit the toilets.

Mayerling will be performed in 2022, by Scottish ballet, in a new version adapted from Macmillan's original production. I expect it will be seen in London in 2023 at Sadler's Wells.

It looks as if the people in front have a full view so wouldn't have any valid reason to lean forward/move around. Can you angle yourself on the high stools on row C or angle the seats at all? I'm not tall, but also don't mind about lack of comfort...It also seems appealing in row C to have no-one behind, as at least you can move your own head around too, presumably, if the person in front is doing the same- without having to worry about ruining it for the person behind?

This keeps happening to me too Janet - but from Leeds and Edinburgh too. Requires rather a lot of headspace to keep track of what is booked and what can't yet be booked. Bizarrely, for two of my forthcoming trips to Edinburgh, LNER don't seem to be running trains south after 6pm and I've had to book the Transpennine Express despite living on the East Coast Mainline.

Royal Ballet's Swan Lake (Spring 2022)
RHowarth replied to MJW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
They danced beautifully together at the Fonteyn gala - a marriage of pure classicism. But I do very much hope that Nunez isn't injured.- 1,276 replies

What's coming up in London - smaller companies
RHowarth replied to Lynette H's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Not a smaller company at all, but it looks as if the forum hasn't received a press release, so I wanted to flag up that tickets are onsale for Scottish Ballet's The Crucible in June at Sadler's Wells. I was at the premiere a few years ago in Edinburgh and this is a ballet well worth watching. -
Ballet Icons Gala 2022 (13th March) - now cancelled
RHowarth replied to a topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the link, but I saw it via the Dancing Times on Facebook. It sounds as if only Saturday's performances at Northampton were cancelled. -
Ballet Icons Gala 2022 (13th March) - now cancelled
RHowarth replied to a topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
BBC News reports that performances in Northallerton and Wolverhampton have been cancelled. At least in Northampton's case, this is at the instigation of the venue, who will carry the financial loss. -
21/22 Cinema/stream season
RHowarth replied to jmhopton's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Within a single sitting? No good if the toddler wakes up...I rarely drink a cup of coffee within a single sitting, let alone watch a live stream. I wonder why this is deemed necessary.- 71 replies

How wonderful. I hope it goes out on TV. I know BRB did streams during the pandemic but am I right in thinking the last time they had a production filmed for TV was Cinderella back in around 2010?
