  1. I am always annoyed by the fact that there is a large gap in opera tickets between approx£85 and approx£120. While I can cope with the occasional £80, the jump to£120 is just too much. Ballet doesn't seem to have, such a large gap. I'm rather priced out of opera these days. I'm a bit limited as to where I can sit, and very much feel that I've been pushed out.
  2. Apologies for hasty and slightly inaccurate posting. It is, of course, Monday 14th. And it is via You Tube, which I watch on TV. In my defence, I now see that the filming details are on individual insights, but as I cannot get to these i rarely look at them. But have, in the past, received emails telling me that they are on.
  3. Why is the Opera house so coy about issuing information about these? I have just noticed, in You Tube, that the Insight on the Concerto Triple bill is being shown on Tuesday 14_October at 1930. As far as I can see, there's nothing on either the web site or Facebook pages about this. Or have I missed something?
  4. before the big refurbishment my seat of choice was front row stalls. No heads,in the way, perfect view of dancers, feet and all. I think after the refurbishment they 'improved' the rake in the stalls so that now you can only see from knees upwards in the first few rows. And the improved rake means that the last couple of times of the stalls are higher, meaning that if you get a centre stalls circle ticket you have to hope and pray that you don't get someone talk in the back row of the stalls. I noticed, when buying my horribly expensive ticket for the Bolshoi that some tickets which were charged at Premium prices were advertised as possibly having a slightly restricted view.
  5. My white Persian exotic is busy rehearsing his beautiful jetes so that he can audition for Sleeping Beauty. Must tell him to be careful!
  6. Cats have an unerring sense of occasion. Hope all is we!l.
  7. Was that when there was an extra pas de deux for the Gaoler and his mistress? It was particularly nasty.
  8. and watch out for Extinction Rebellion for the next two weeks. Looks as though getting around central London will be a nightmare.
  9. I remember around the 1950s when lots of repertory theatres were closing, it was said that TV was to blame. Nowadays we have umpteen channels, can watch films and tv series at relatively low cost, or free, all without leaving our nice comfy homes and perhaps having to travel on unreliable transport. Or maybe I'm just clutching at straws, but I find the situation worrying.
  10. Rather flippant of me, but I always feel rather sorry for whoever plays Manon and who has to take her curtain call, usually holding, gorgeous flowers, and looking dreadful!
  11. I just wish there was some indication that someone at the ROH was doing something to address the problem. I can't remember ever attending the ROH ( and I've been going for 60 odd years,) and seeing so many empty seats. There seems to be a general air of nonchalance around. The old days of scrambling to get tickets on the first day of booking seem long gone.
  12. I don't think ticket prices are the whole problem For most performances it seems that it is the cheaper seats that are unsold, whereas more expensive ones aren't too bad. Is it lack of interest, reputation of the ROH as being super expensive, horrendous cost of drinks and snacks once you're inside, poor marketing, an idea that tickets are hard to get or a bit of all these? I think Marketing is making too much of selling performances as an 'experience ' , a bit like Talk of the Town for those old enough to remember it! Very disappointed that so many people are missing out on enjoying something that I have loved for many years.
  13. Having seen both participants, although with different partners, I decided that this was a cast i couldn't miss! So for me it's them, plus Morera/Bonelli. But I really hope that sales pick up; it's very worrying from all points of view.
  14. my wish would be to see the Stuttgart ballet - and at least they wouldn't have to cross the Atlantic!
  15. I recently needed to exchange one of my package performances for another date and was impressed by how efficiently and pleasantly this was dealt with. Despite information on the package FAQs I got a seat at a slightly higher price and had to pay the admin charge, but had an interesting conversation with the box office about suitability of various seats for ballet performances. Excellent service.
  16. At one time theatre programmes used to ask ladies to remove their hats. Maybe a similar notice needs to appear requesting ladies, not to wear extreme hair styles!
  17. Was interested to find that The Winters Tale shown here is not the one that is available on DVD, but the one shown in cinemas during the last run. Worth a look, especially for Muntagirov as Florizel and Morera as Emilia. Not so sure about some of the other performances.
  18. Didn't one critic at the time of the original London production also say that the ballet was about exiles and grief for their homeland, particularly poignant with Nureyev ? It's always seemed to me a very bittersweet ballet. I haven't seen it since the original, and am very much looking forward to it.
  19. delighted at the prospect of Dances, so much so that I've just bought another package with an extra Onegin! There should be done super casts for Dances given the number of stellar dancers that we are blessed with these days. I have seen Prodigal Son and very powerful it is. So changes of programmes that suit me well!
  20. Strange, I'm going twice but haven't received any reminders to improve on this! Agree about a rethink though, as you say there seem to be an awful lot of unsold tickets. Maybe Marketing needs to be a bit more pro active.
  21. I wonder if it will be shown via the Curzon cinema club via my Amazon Fire Stick?
  22. in an ideal world there would be a way of getting a drink in a 20 minute interval without a trek to the caff or the PH bar if you are sitting in Stalls Circle right. Being less than fleet of foot i find it impossible to reach either especially if I am in the seats nearest the stage. I've got a sneaking suspicion that seats in left stalls circle are less easy to get because of its proximity to interval, drinks!
  23. Please let's go back to Right/Left, Stalls Circle etc. Better arrangements for leaving coats are needed, particularly in the winter. The downstairs caff is handy, although pretty soulless. Food and drink are ridiculously expensive, certainly not geared to young (or old!) audiences. The shop has some pretty things but is overpriced. Proper season booklets are most definitely needed - all the other national theatres can provide this, why not the ROH? Accurate casting and change of cast information must be easily accessible to all, preferably both on the web site and in the theatre. The staff are, in the main, excellent. I've always found them to be helpful and pleasant when asked for help.
  24. Agree with Geoff, and don't forget that a lot of those seats will probably be sold at student rates. I would like to have seen at least 3 casts in SB but could only manage 1, so possibly the two seats I couldn't afford, will be sold for £10! Can't see how that helps the ROH coffers.
  25. Seems to me that higher pricing may be taking its toll. Looking at performances of Manon, the triple bill, Sleeping Beauty and Coppelia there are plenty of seats available at most prices. Maybe people are getting wise to paying a high price for a rather poor seat
