  1. Yes - don't worry at all, the students are sorted into groups depending on what stage they're at. The present yr 7 has a mixed range of ability. The DC that have studied tap aren't held back, whilst the DC with less experience are helped to catch up therefore all abilities are catered for
  2. Can anyone tell me the timings of this course - I know it's 10th -13th April and non-residential, but wondered what times the days start & finish ? Would also appreciate any feedback from anyone having attended this course in the past. Many thanks.
  3. ........ Yes, so in theory s DC could be given a place at Hammond or Tring but not necessarily an MDS funded place. I've even heard of some children at Elmhurst not being offered an MDS place, not sure about WL. As Sarahw says there are school bursaries & scholarships available at some schools when an MDS isn't offered.
  4. Our DS also performed/trained with MTB and we again have nothing but praise for their teaching and quality of final production. We firmly believe it gave our DS valuable extra tuition prior to him auditioning for the vocational schools. He made it to all four finals with offers from two schools and we really feel MTB played a large part in building his confidence. It is a fairly big commitment especially in the last term - but well worth it & we would thoroughly recommend them.
  5. Yes - exactly welshballetmum ...... put much better than my post lol !! I am definitely not against foreign students being given places, not at all but disagree with them being given any advantage over uk students during the audition process.
  6. Yes ..... I can fully understand that reasoning, begs the age old question - are Uk students not at the same level of training compared with foreign students of the same age ? therefore Uk schools feeling the need to take non uk students to maintain their reputation. If this is the case (and I don't know enough to be honest) I wonder why it isn't addressed. I do feel it is unfair that Uk students are just given a quick snap shot of time to prove themselves & their ability compared with foreign students, who may be given longer - if this is actually the situation. As you rightly say legs eleven ...... life isn't fair. Ho hum. I just feel a bit sorry for all our lovely UK dancers that give it their all, work so hard but attend final auditions knowing that places have already been allocated . I am biased very much towards promoting our own uk students, I guess, but I also understand why decisions are made in the way they are..... and like you say - uk students will always have to compete with their foreign counter-parts for company places etc. Good luck to EVERYONE auditioning for upper school places.
  7. I can't help reading all this that establishments based in the UK should be giving Uk students a fair crack at the whip & an equal chance to prove themselves & show their abilities to the full. We should be nurturing home - grown talent as a priority & then any spaces left be offered to overseas students. My opinion only
  8. Just received our "Oliver" DVD !! What a lovely reminder of a fabulous production, the amazing standard of teaching and the incredibly talented students at The Hammond.
  9. Congratulations shygirlsmum & to your DD !! Our DS is also at Hammond & loves it x
  10. Congratulations CeliB and to your DS - really wonderful achievement, you must be bursting with pride. What an inspiration for younger dancing boys coming through !!
  11. Hi Sarah2203, yes you return all forms & registration fee - your DD has a definite place if you can pay full fees. If you require financial assistance ie MDS or school scholarship/bursary - these are awarded after the final audition. Congratulations to your DD
  12. Congratulations to your DS Armydancer ........ fabulous news !! We have a DS in year 7 so your DS will be in the same boarding house, if you have any questions - fire away !! x
  13. .........yes my DS is a little obsessed with his hand sanitizer too !!! Lol ....... we worry about DS re fluid intake as well. We stress the importance of it to him & hope he takes it on-board. I think sometimes at their age they think they're bionic !! Does anyone know when we're likely to receive their dance assessment results ?
  14. Thanks so much Lottie - wonderful website that allows you to choose more masculine colours for warm-ups.
  15. I've been really disappointed too after trying to find dance wear & ballet related gifts for my DS this Christmas !! Especially after years of keeping his ballet/dance classes 'a bit quiet' for fear of being bullied - he's now reached an age where he's not worried by that & is so proud to be training in dance ......would have been nice to find some gifts to reflect that - but there is very little out there !!
  16. Oh ........ what a shame, never thought of that !!!
  17. Oooooh hope so !! It would seem a terrible shame to produce such a brilliant production and not film it.
  18. Speaking of missing the show - doses anyone know if they film the shows and whether we can buy copies ?? I've a lot of friends & relatives who would love to see it ?
  19. Went to see it last night ..... A-M-A-Z-I-N-G !! Some seriously talented performers with some "West End" worthy performances !! It may not tick all the boxes for the students with a more classical leaning - but the dance production in the Summer term should be something for them (& us) to look forward to !! It's all experience of performing at the end of the day & the cast really looked like they thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done everyone !!
  20. Really sorry to hear this BalletAims , we've had very similar issues with things going missing which DS swears blind were in his bag!! He also had his dance bag taken for 24hrs with all his kit in ..... for it to 'reappear' on its own !! He's had his school bag put in the shower too !!! So we know how you are feeling & it's very upsetting. We sent detailed emails with every incident of bullying and asked Mrs Lawn to 'log' them. She raised the issues with school & the individuals concerned and it has finally seemed to have stopped (hopefully for good) . Hopefully this phase for your DD will stop soon too .......she's such a lovely girl. We've come to the conclusion that it sadly happens in all schools, but in our experience you have to "keep acting on it & report everything", asking the details to be logged !! Hope it gets sorted out quickly xxx
  21. That's good to know pictures, as although I have every intention of sticking to school rules & asking for permission etc I think to not be able to do any form of reputable dance training over the long Summer holiday - would make returning to school in September very hard going !!
  22. ......just to follow on ..... my DS is an MDS student - does this mean they are less likely to grant permission for a summer school ?? In other words, does the school dictate more on the dancing lives of MDS students compared to full fee paying students ??
  23. Wow ..... I'm surprised the DC attending Hammond or any other vocational school would have the energy to attend extra classes at weekends or evenings. I'm presuming this would be day students rather than boarders as boarders wouldn't have opportunity to do extra classes even if they wanted to. My DS is a boarder and I find he really needs his evenings/Sat afternoon/Sunday's and exeats to simply rest, re-charge and do his homework. I think Summer/Easter schools with reputable teachers and permission from the vocational school in question is another matter entirely..... if the DC is keen to get some extra tuition over the longer holidays. I wonder if the DC attending vocational school & doing extra evening classes/festivals/competitions etc etc are more in danger of injury or burnout ??
  24. Yes , it's been the same for our DS. Preparation in RAD grade 4. He's skipped grade 5 as he's now at vocational school where he's practising pirouettes more in his inter-foundation class. I'm certainly no expert, with little knowledge myself, so maybe other DC learn them younger ?? I'm sure the teachers on this forum can help you with your query
