  1. Hi everyone - this is so hard isn't it ?? It's a reserve for my DS too !! It says on the letter if we wish to ring & discuss our finances & possible bursary assistance to call their finance department . Is this a nice way of softening the blow & offered to everyone on the reserve list ?? Thankyou x
  2. Hi mumof6 .....I'm new to this forum too this year & tbh it has helped me to stay sane & look at things from lots of different perspectives with regard to dance training & what's available out there. Everyone is so friendly, supportive & willing to help with their advice & depth of knowledge. I feel the same as you - if my DS was lucky enough to be given a place at the Hammond, a part of my heart would break a little, but the other part would be so overjoyed for him - the first thing he does after school is race towards me asking if there's any news !! No post again today, so the waiting continues xx
  3. .........the more I read and learn about Hammond - the more it sounds such a wonderful school and I'm sure my DS would love it, if given the wonderful opportunity........roll on the results - so we know one way or another !!
  4. Hi - just to let those of you waiting for Hammond results - I've just called the office and results may take upto the end of next week to reach everyone. Apparently one lady is dealing with all the letters and she's typing as fast as she can. Xx
  5. Ps - don't suppose anyone has new information on how many MDS places are up for grabs ??
  6. Hi everyone, does anybody know how long it takes for the Hammond to send results out & is it by letter ? Thanks
  7. Hi Lema ......... Yes I was wondering the same for my DS. There definitely wasn't any mention of uniform requirements in the letter....so I've decided to send him with some joggers, jazz shorts and jazz shoes along with his normal ballet tights & leotard which he'll arrive in under-dressed. Maybe we shouldn't be too concerned as if they have strict thoughts on audition uniform, you'd think they would specify their requirements. I'm sure standard ballet uniform & appropriate dance wear for the creative movement/MT will be fine. I've told my DS to just try & really enjoy this audition as its his last one and I'm attempting to lead by example and have the attitude - what will be - will be. We've organised new classes for him in the event of another 'no' and that seems to have really helped him. I think he was beginning to think his dance career was over before it's really even had chance to start !! These dancing children of ours !!! Good Luck to your DD & everyone else xx
  8. Hi cotes du rhone ......your story regarding your children is very interesting - what a talented family !! May I ask which year your DS2 is entering Elmhurst at ? It's just that my DS recently had a 'no' at finals for Elmhurst yr7. When he hears of success stories for boys being accepted at a later age - it spurs him on that its worth trying again
  9. Thankyou everyone - it's always a good thing to hear different points of view & different experiences. It's always going to be a difficult decision to send your DC for training at 11 .......even if it turns out to be the right decision....... It's always going to feel like a trade off between training and family life I'm guessing !!
  10. Is it possible to ask those of you who wish they hadn't let their DC leave home at 11 the general reasons why ? Without of course disclosing anything you see as personal. It's just that as a mum whose considering/wrestling with this & having a DS who is really keen on vocational training - I would really appreciate hearing the positives & negatives of such a decision, Apologies to moderators if this is slightly off thread & happy for you to move this post if you wish ,
  11. Thanks v much Mrs G and congratulations on your DS & his achievements, hope he's enjoying his time at Laine. If my DS is lucky enough to be offered some funding - I'll definitely take you up on your kind offer. It's always nice to be able to seek advice from someone with a lot more experience - which is one of the great things about this forum x
  12. Thanks pas de chat .... I think if it's meant to be ....it will happen for him, somewhere & at some point, eventually (I hope). Although ballet is his favourite - he loves tap, jazz etc & is gaining a lot more confidence with singing/acting so Hammond would be a great fit for him. Think he's going into the funding audition shooting from the hip LOL !!
  13. My DS is already talking about trying again next year if he doesn't get anything this time around. Not sure of much success though for a year 8 place as can't see there being many places available at any of the schools. At least the whole process has not put him off despite the knock-backs and he's learnt so much from the audition process. He's really looking forward to Hammond, so like you said - fingers crossed xx
  14. .........well hopefully something positive will happen for your DD from those reserves or Hammond & it won't be too long a wait for you.,...she's done brilliantly. It will just be so nice to know where our children will be going to school. Thankfully my DS seems to be quite chilled out about it now !
  15. He's reserve for Tring as I believe all the finalists are - so we sadly don't hold much hope there, and he still has Hammond - so we'll see. Its quite an unsettling time isn't it !
  16. Oh no - talk about prolonging the stress !!!
  17. Thanks v much everyone - may have to invest in a few lottery tickets then On another note - how long does it generally take for all the shuffling of places re lower schools ?? Does it tend to be sorted fairly quickly or drag on until July / August .......before you know it - another year has flown lol !!
  18. Hi everyone, just wondered if someone 'in the know' can help me understand something, My DS was offered a place at the Hammond after the prelim audition before Christmas. He also has a funding audition coming up soon. If he's not offered a funded place are we still able to accept the non-funded place if we can afford the full fees......if by chance we win the lottery ??
  19. From memory, the DC auditioning were told at the audition whether they had been successful or not. We were then sent packs with all the info and rehearsal dates etc including an agreement to sign. This was 2 yrs ago - so things may have changed. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm sure they will have rehearsal dates all sorted - so should be able to tell you .
  20. Hi meggy13 ...... They have their own website which says its Monday 25th April at the concert hall. 4.30-6.15pm juniors and 6.45-8.30pm seniors. My DS performed with them 2yrs ago. Hope that helps Sorry just re read your post & you were asking about rehearsal dates ..... They didn't confirm those with us last time until we'd signed a contract. I'm sure they would be helpful if you requested more information by email.
  21. Straceydor ......your DD must be very strong & determined, fingers crossed this is her year to get that 'yes' !!! Other posts I've read suggest that perseverance really can win the day !!
  22. Thanks Snape - all useful to know, I take it your DD is presently at the school - my DS really enjoyed his prelim audition there & felt everyone was really friendly !!
  23. I agree Straceydor ....... The waiting is really tough - and life seems to be put on hold whilst we wait to see what all these auditions lead to !! Has your DD been through all this before ? Good Luck to her
  24. Thanks Straceydor ....... Yes my DS was offered an original place (without funding) at Hammond & Tring but we're not in the position to afford the whole fees without a bursary or MDS place. A situation I know a lot of people seem to find themselves in - which is quite heartbreaking
  25. Thankyou picturesinthefirelight don't suppose you know (or does anyone else ) how many students Hammond accept into each year 7 ? - is it a fixed number of boys and girls for instance ? I think I've read from previous posts that their number of MDS places fluctuates quite a bit from year to year ??
