  1. Hi Krishell ......thankyou ,will look into YDA as don't know that much about it - quite new to all this !! Taxi4Ballet & Lema ....yes can't help feeling the whole process is a little cruel. My DS has been lucky enough to have 4 finals which you would have some hope of an offer somewhere, but I'm not so sure now !! For him to get so close and come away with nothing knowing that if we had the money he could have gone to Tring or Hammond will be really hard on him and us as parents. Nevermind, have always taught him to "keep on trying" ......and he's gone to bed a bit more cheerful bless him. Congratulations to everyone with a yes to WL - amazing achievement !!! For all those with a no - we are feeling the same disappointment - but good luck to those DC still with finals to come xx
  2. Hi Holly House ......... Yes he's still got finals at Elmhurst and Hammond ......so something to still aim for if we can pick him off the floor in time. He's got no's from Tring & now WL and he's only just stopped sobbing at the news this evening. What hurts is that he's been offered places at both Tring & Hammond if we could pay the full amount - but we can't afford that and so are relying on funded places. Very upsetting to see him so down - he really wants a place (anywhere to be honest) where he can move forward with his dancing & not have to keep it quiet for fear of bullying. I agree, looking round the schools make my DS want it even more, especially as he already knows some boys who are in yr8 at all of the schools & love it. Good Luck to your DS - hope he's not too upset - has he anymore finals ?? x
  3. It's a no for my DS too - I'm waiting for him to come out of ballet class - he will be devastated x
  4. Hi Primrose, thanks so much for that , we have given him a bit of a pep talk & he seems to have got his sparkle back !! Onwards & upwards ....exactly !! x
  5. Thanks for everyone's replies .......... tracksuit it is and a happier more relaxed DS to boot !!! x.
  6. Thanks jazzpaws - nice to hear another view point. He already feels a tiny bit deflated when he sees other boys with their associate tracksuits on as he hasn't had any experience of being an associate anywhere. He's also feeling a bit disappointed with his recent Tring result being on the reserve list. So I'm trying to rebuild his confidence before Thursday & don't want to let him down on dress codes etc. I agree with you that it's important to feel relaxed - so unless I get a torrent of messages advising me otherwise - will stick with plan A. Thanks for your advice x
  7. Hi everyone , just changing the subject away from Tring for the moment ....... my DS is lucky enough to have a final audition with RBS this Thursday. On the schedule for the day it gives the candidates a short time to get changed into their dance wear - wearing a track suit etc over the top. I'd planned to send my son already underchanged & wearing a nice tracksuit to begin with .......figuring if he attends like this - it's less for him to think of later in the morning but also a bit more of a casual regime he's used to with other auditions. I've since wondered if most of the other children will arrive very smartly dressed in more formal clothes & don't wish my son to feel a little too casual ......... I must admit, the more suited & booted he is - it tends to add to his nerves !!! Can anyone 'in the know' advise me on the dress code for arrival or is it not really important as long as his tracksuit is acceptable . Thanks v much x
  8. Thankyou DancingDays and I'll second that, congratulations to all those that gained MDS awards for Tring .....amazing !!! and good luck to everyone with forthcoming auditions.xx
  9. Hi Ballettwoshoes, firstly I myself am very new to the world of vocational schools and the audition process - so can only speak from my own limited experience so far. My DS has always loved to dance and in the last few years has taken it much more seriously, his dream would be to attend ANY of the vocational schools as he feels he would 'fit in' much more than in one of our local schools. Sadly it is still the case that boys that dance can sometimes have to deal with taunts & bullying which can make the prospect of secondary schools seem quite daunting. After the first audition at Tring - he was offered a place on the dance course but without funding. This meant we could have secured him at the school if we were able to meet the full costs. Sadly he has been unsuccessful in gaining an MDS place at the funding audition, so we can't help feeling so sad that he could have accepted a place if we earned more. We know he would have loved it at Tring as he has attended several Easter courses there and thought it was amazing & he learnt so much. Fortunately he's very lucky to have other final auditions to concentrate on now & although a bit down, will hopefully feel positive again soon. He's always understood our situation and that we can't afford the full fees. I'm sure therefore it must be the case that many children who are talented enough to attend these schools will miss out if the parents can't afford the full fees. It's perhaps the way of the world ...... Tough at times, but I guess the dancing world is no different.
  10. Does anyone know what date the children with a "yes" for Tring funding have to accept the place & pay the deposit ?? Like you say Balletmum - this could give some families a bit of a dilemma if they have further finals with other schools.
  11. Congratulations to your pupil tutugirl - what an achievement to gain a place with so many children and so few awards to go round !!! Fabulous news x
  12. It's the reserve list for my DS too (yr7) ........he didn't have a physio either !!! Wonder if all the children at funding finals are put on the reserve list ??? Maybe it a case of letting them down gently, not sure. Nevermind, what's meant to be - is meant to be !!! These are all such talented children who will continue their love of dancing regardless ........ & that's what's most important !!! Good luck to everyone else xx
  13. Our DS attended Tring for Yr7 this morning, but wasn't called back for physio .......we're taking that to be a "no" but not sure if we are right to think that or not ?? Either way ..... we're not very hopeful with the odds of an offer with 6 places for 60 talented DC. Onwards & upwards ????
  14. Hi Jennyboydance, my DS is in group 1 on the 14th March for Elmhurst yr 7 ....... so there's at least two groups of boys but I've no idea how many are in each group and whether or not they will be groups of mixed ages ......does anyone else know ??
  15. Thankyou taxi4ballet & waitingmum .......all very helpful !!! Our DS will be over the moon with any offer, let alone more than one ....but he's well aware funded places are very difficult to achieve - so what will be, will be ????????
  16. Thanks Taxi ???????? .......Oooh ...I seem to remember glancing at the deposits, thinking they were quite weighty (might have got that wrong) - an expensive option for those in that lovely position of having more than one offer I guess !!! ????????
  17. Can anyone tell me - if your DC is lucky enough to be offered a place at one of the vocational schools (lower schools) for full-time training ......what actually happens ? Do the schools inform you fairly quickly of the results and how long are you given to formerly accept a place...... do they put a time limit on when you have to accept for instance. What happens then if the child has further funding auditions in the following weeks for which they'll have no idea of that outcome, but it might be for a school they prefer or feel more suited too ?? I just wondered if all the schools allow all results to be known before you have to make a decision. This would be of course a wonderful position to be in and indeed wishful thinking, but I'm sure there must be talented DC out there that have been in this dilemma ????
  18. It's so lovely to hear of all the stories regarding the many positive benefits gained through dance, whatever the genre, male or female, young or old, be it for a simple pleasurable hobby or whether it be for more serious career prospects - I firmly believe 'dancing' bestows so many different gifts - confidence, time-management, fun, exercise, self-discipline, fitness, self-expression, friendships, respect for others , posture ......the list is endless. For us personally ......our sons body was broken by cancer & kidney disease, the repeated surgery & most intensive chemotherapy. The love of our family, support of his school and his dancing has re-built him. His consultants all claim that dancing has not only helped his emotional recovery , but has helped physically strengthen his heart, relieve pain in his legs & helped his remaining kidney to recover from the terrible side effects chemotherapy brings. He is never so happy as when he dances ...... the doctors did a superb job in saving him , but we also say .....dancing brought him back to us !! Xx
  19. Thankyou Lema .......wishing your DD lots of good luck too & indeed everyone's DC with their forthcoming auditions xx
  20. Thankyou Bluebird - whatever the outcome of the auditions - we already feel so lucky as parents to watch him progress from wheelchair to dancing ...... It's our own miracle !!! Although it's his dream to attend one of the vocational schools - he also loves his dance school - so he'll be happy wherever fate takes him ))
  21. My DS first asked if Father Christmas could bring him some tap shoes, after watching a TV program with children dancing on it - this was when he was 4 yrs old. I (very sadly) didn't take his request seriously, thinking it to be a phase or whim and needless to say he was very disappointed when Santa failed to deliver and I felt so guilty !!! He then shortly after became seriously ill and during his prolonged stay in hospital - he asked "when I get better mummy, can I have some tap shoes ? " We at that stage felt he may never recover, certainly well enough to dance but promised him tap shoes anyway & prayed that one day he would be strong enough. Just after his 7th birthday - he was well enough - we bought him the tap shoes and sorted out some lessons. He very quickly added to his tap lessons with lessons in modern, street dance, singing and of course ballet. He now has four funding finals for year 7 .....and whatever happens - we are beyond proud & feel so lucky & blessed that he remains in good health and loves his dancing wherever that may lead him.
  22. Thanks for your replies ???????? - at least they all seem to be consistent regarding no assessing out in year 10 - would be so difficult for the DC to cope with that & the pressures of looming GCSE's !!
  23. Hi everyone - Can anyone tell me how often the process of 'assessing out' occurs at the different vocational schools such as RBS, Elmhurst, Tring & Hammond ?? I've heard that the frequency of assessments has changed recently for some schools ??
  24. Hi everyone , Thankyou for all your advice ......... and the link Lottie, I'm taking everything on board as although my DS has danced for a few years now - it has mainly been centred around his own dance school and only really this last year has he taken it more seriously - so there's a lot to learn and consider . We're very lucky as he loves his present dance school and teachers but they are equally supportive of him trying for a place at vocational school - so whatever happens he will be happy dancing wherever that may be - as long as the bullying remains at bay !!! Good Luck to all the DC who have looming auditions
