  1. Just one small point - Mozart's sister was known as Nannerl, not Nanneri.
  2. Thanks! I am pretty sure the post I saw was a reply to the offending one which had already been hidden by the time I read the reply. Fair enough, and thanks to the mods as ever for attempting to spare people's feelings!
  3. Was more than one post hidden (or was the offending post edited after it was originally posted)? I read a post which I can now no longer see, which remarked in general on relative attractiveness of dancers, but didn't mention anybody specifically. (Not planning to take this thread off topic, so this is my only and last question on the matter.)
  4. Looking for a good SCS or similar for tomorrow evening's performance. I could have sworn one of the ones I booked later in the run was Hayward/Campbell, but it isn't - so this is my only chance to see them. And my first ever chance to see Hayward's Aurora, as during the last run I was booked for the performance she pulled out of due to illness.
  5. Edited - sorry - I posted in the wrong place - please delete...
  6. If anyone has a spare SCS (or central Balcony Standing) ticket for the above Hayward/Campbell/Avis performance, please get in touch - I'm currently booked for their earlier one but would like to rearrange my diary.
  7. Re the above bracelet-related queries: it probably didn’t help that thanks to the bracelet stubbornly refusing to leave Manon’s wrist at the end of last night’s Act 2 pdd, Manon could have more plausibly retained it into Act 3 😂
  8. It’s the bedroom one, I’m almost certain. Glad it’s not just me that calls it that!!
  9. I imagine you've got a while to see your wish fulfilled - Hayward is one of those dancers who I'm sure will still be able to convincingly portray a 15-year-old when she's 45...
  10. Perhaps with a niche degree subject like that it's more likely than for somebody with a more generic degree? Not sure!
  11. Oh, marvellous - having missed last night's performance due to a clash, and being unable to attend the one on 5th November, I was kicking myself for apparently managing to miss this cast altogether. But it's now occurred to me that I can catch one of the Encore screenings on Sunday 10th
  12. I attended the dress rehearsal, which I enjoyed, even though it's one of my least favourite operas - I love the music, but the plot is so mean-spirited and all the characters are awful people! Though of course one makes allowances at a rehearsal, I particularly enjoyed the tenor, Ioan Hotea. Judging by the reviews I can only assume he had a fairly serious off-night on press night, which is unfortunate.
  13. I'm intrigued by the prospect of the Prodigal Son choreography now we know it's cast with men who would normally be considered too short for those particular women (though I know McRae and Osipova have worked together before).
  14. The only reason I didn't mention her is that she is no longer with the RB...
  15. I caught up last night with the Royal Ballet company class, where I was as always hugely entertained by Robert Clark's choices of medley. I'm not sure which I liked more: Delilah --> Oom-pah-pah --> Que sera sera --> a waltz-tempo Viva Espana, or The Muppet Show --> I Got Rhythm --> Anything Goes... It was also fun to see some of the dancers who, having looked completely serious and focussed throughout the barre exercises, started corpsing/grinning when they caught each other's eye during the calf rises. And I could DEFINITELY hear a few people singing along when Clark played "Delilah"... Is that the first time we've had a live stream of one of Brian Maloney's classes? Also fascinating to watch (again, as she had a very similar position at the barre as in last year's live stream) Yasmine Naghdi's method of picking up the combinations by marking the leg positions with her hands.
  16. On the couple of occasions when Nunez and Bonelli have accidentally ended up dancing together due to one or other of them replacing somebody else (a Swan Lake in 2012(?) springs to mind, when Nunez replaced Cuthbertson) it's resulted in a brilliant performance, so I wonder why it hasn't been done on purpose more often.
  17. I presume Anna Rose O'Sullivan can - didn't she spend some time as a child playing Little Cosette in Les Mis?
  18. *I* live in London and have the sort of lifestyle where I can go to the theatre any evening I choose (other than Tuesday nights when I currently have ballet class) - and yet I still find myself having to pick from a small selection of available dates. This is partly because the ROH announces its season later than pretty much every other opera house and concert hall in the country, and by the time the announcement is made - never mind by the time the ballet casting is announced - I already have tickets for all sorts of other things. There were only 3 possible dates of the current run of Manon, which is one of my favourite ballets, and only 2 dates of the current mixed bill, which is fewer than the number of casts I would like to see. Hmmmm. I was at the first and second nights of ROH Otello 2018. If I had only been at the latter, I would still consider I'd seen Jonas Kaufmann sing his "first Otello" - and it would have left a better impression if I had, as the second performance was far better than the first. Last week I travelled round the UK to see a number of friends make major role debuts with regional opera companies; one was a genuine debut (first night) and the other was second or third night, but I don't really see that as being different. One thing I do think carries bragging rights in opera is having seen an amazing unscheduled company debut by somebody who is now a big star but was largely unknown at the time. Like the time I saw 24-year-old Juan Diego Florez make his Royal Opera debut as a last minute replacement.
  19. I would agree with 4 per performance as a baseline (because who doesn’t sometimes want to bring more than one friend?) and for “premium” shows such as those we’ve been discussing, 4 in total per run of the production. The latter limit was working very nicely for several seasons until they decided to remove it in favour of a free-for-all; indeed it was last imposed for the 2018 Ring cycle. The only disadvantage of the latter limit is its potential to ensure second-cast shows sell badly even though regulars want to buy tickets for them, but there are ways round that at later stages.
  20. Interestingly, five years ago in a previous revival of Manon, it was just this number in which Mayara Magri first caught my attention.
  21. And it speaks pretty well of ROH regulars, at least those of us on this forum, that we aren't TRYING to buy up all the tickets for ourselves or to sell on to our friends. We're challenging unfairness in the process because we WANT members of the general taxpaying public to be able to access popular productions.
  22. Thanks for the info about the additional dates - looks like it should be possible for me to see this after all, and at the cinema nearest to my office too...
