  1. Thanks Bridiem, I appreciate that point of view, but surely a review or opinion from an accredited expert on ballet; whether it be a journalist of the calibre of a Clarke, Craine or Mackrell, or a former and well regarded ballet dancer, must be both better informed and of more interest than that of an opinion or review posted by an anonymous forum poster?
  2. Whether one likes or dislikes the views/reviews of a professional journalist, they write under their own byline and their readers can, in deciding whether or not to read the reviews and articles, form an opinion based on what they write and what’s known about their background. I make the point that most of the Ballet Forum posts are written under pseudonyms (mine included) and readers have no way of knowing if the poster has any detailed knowledge or training of that of which they write (sometimes in very great detail). So, although I didn’t always agree with LJ, I appreciated and accepted his perspective and his credibility as a reviewer.
  3. And it also gives all the White Lodge children a wonderful opportunity to join the company and put into practice all the hard work they do in attempting to become ballet dancers. I’m pretty certain that all the former White Lodgers, whether or not still with the RB, have fond memories of debuting as a soldier or mouse.
  4. I fully agree, although if I have to be more specific to contribute to this thread: 1. Liam Scarlett's 'Swan Lake' (I was dreading the change but completely blown away by it and thought this version was amazing). 2. The Winter's Tale, because every time I see it it seems fresh and exhilarating . 3. Les Patineurs - I hadn’t realised Ashton could be so much fun. 4. La Bayadere - I thought the whole company bought into the dancing and acting and I loved the improved special effects.
  5. Capybara, I agree entirely. Perhaps the moderators could give those who want to post about cast change notifications their own thread, and leave this one to those posting about the Triple bill
  6. I'm sure that this was very frustrating, but what did you think of the Triple bill?
  7. Hi Stellar, I’d like Tuesday 15 January if it’s still free
  8. Thanks for the thoughts @LinMM However, I’ve always very much enjoyed Forsythe's 'contemporary' work and seen it performed by classically trained dancers in classical companies. Whilst his work is, I believe, generally classified as contemporary some of it could, arguably, be described now as modern classic I've seen 'In the middle...', danced by the POB, ENB and by the RB, with Bussell and Yanowsky. I can’t recall any of those performances of 'modern choreography' provoking anything like the divergent responses seen in this thread. They were all terrific and uniformly well received.
