The Royal Ballet: Romeo and Juliet, Spring 2019
RobR replied to Richard LH's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I’ve seen Thomas Mock twice as Paris. One of the things I liked about his performances was that he seemed warmer and kinder towards Juliet at their initial meeting. This differed from many other performances of Paris, where the dancing of the role can suggest an arranged marriage, with little affection for Juliet on the part of the groom to be. Mock's warmth at that initial stage made his subsequent presence in the crypt more understandable to me. It suggested that he genuinely cared about Juliet and was properly distraught about her death.- 1,139 replies

The Royal Ballet: Frankenstein, March 2019
RobR replied to capybara's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Well, it’s just that she wears the same costume before and when Victor's mother dies, when he goes to Med School, when he comes home and is nursed, when his brother is being tutored and has an (eighth ? birthday) when she’s arrested and when she’s hanged. And the maids wear black with white aprons, so she’s probably not a maid, more a nurserymaid although not before William is born; anyway I'm puzzled that her costume doesn’t change from Act 1 to Act 2.- 300 replies

Given that a computer plug in dvd drive costs less than £20, this may not be a big problem if your pc/laptop doesn’t have an integral drive. -

Royal Ballet - Don Quixote - Spring 2019

I went to the encore screening today and, having read the posts about lighting, was on the alert for dim lighting. I sat in row C at the Finchley Road Vue. It was as clear as anything as far as I was concerned and I thought it one of the best ROH recordings I’ve seen. I’m afraid I couldn’t see the basis for the earlier complaints. I loved the whole performance. -

It might be sensible to do the exercises your daughter’s teacher advises following her assessment of her level and ability. To start exercises without advice and assessment might be more harmful than beneficial. Choose a school, take your daughter in, and see what they advise.

My daughter, who is now dances professionally, attended (and very much enjoyed) Debra Bradnum's Ballettrain School from 5 to 11. She has a comprehensive website and you can get all the information you need from that. Good luck

We are also in North London. How old is your daughter and what level has she achieved?

If anyone is thinking of selling an SCS for Asphodel/Two Pigeons on Tuesday evening, I’m looking for one. Thanks

Not sure that any of the female dancers would appreciate being described as 'larger', whether slightly or otherwise. Magri certainly isn’t 'larger'. Slightly taller perhaps but, given the relative heights of dancers currently in the RB, I’m not even sure about that 😊
