  1. Hi I run the Ballet Boost one. It is a very pure technique course with floor barre/pilates into class each day - specifically building up the time spent on aspects of class so that by day 4 they are fully back. Added bonus of a teachers course happening with Maina Gielgud at the end of the 4th day (Maina coaches around the world). She will be coaching two royal ballet dancers and anyone on the back to ballet course is entitled to watch for free! I am personally teaching every day on this one
  2. I fully expect this will get sent out now they are back from Easter break.
  3. DATE CHANGE! May 27th Saturday still at Central
  4. So i write this as one who spent a good deal of time in the corps - achieving 2 promotions for this work and then also getting to perform soloist roles and the Clarain the Nutcracker. This is the reality: As a corps de ballet member its the very day to day attitude to learning, always being fit and ready and willing to work, knowing ALL the places, being thrown in to a new role with no problems ( i went in for cygnets five minutes before curtain up - that was my first promotion!), staying for extra rehearsals that you aren't even cast for (a big way to get noticed) - never getting in the way but quietly showing that you are more than capable! It can be long and arduous, frustrating as large companies are extremely quick to put dancers in boxes. Even Masha Kotechkova (principal now with San Fran) had to go through the corps stuff - it was almost used as a form of punishment if someone came to the company assuming they would do more. Unfortunately the frustration leads much talent to leave as only a couple get 'chosen' and they then do 'everything'! The others may learn a role but to always be 4th cast can become soul destroying. You have to have the guts to ask sometimes. Once i was in brackets for finger fairy in beauty. I asked what this meant "oh well, you can learn it, but you wont perform it". I then asked a ballet master to see me do it in the studio - I was then on in the first week of shows!!!! Boxes........... Often a smaller company in Europe will be a happier, less frustrating place for a ballet dancer to work. Re ethnic minorities - not an issue today. Much more to add but wont bore you! x
  5. MUSICALITY & PERFORMANCE May 26th with Ballet Boost for ages 12 plus @ Central School of Ballet £50 Looking at how the correct understanding of musicality impacts technique, artistry and dynamics in a masterclass held by Emma Northmore lasting at least 2 hours. After lunch there is another masterclass which will take the information from the morning and combine it with their performance skills. Tapping in to the use of personality, energy and confidence to create the best possible performer. All this is aimed at vocational Ballet students and those hoping to go in to vocational training. The afternoon will be Musical Theatre work which has been planned with the ballet student in mind and will help them find that spark they need to succeed. Consider 'An American in Paris' - does your ballet student have that stage presence yet? I want to help them get a step ahead! It will get them a place at a school and most certainly go a long way towards obtaining the type of job they desire. Directors are looking for that 'something special' , that 'inner spark' - the true artists of tomorrow. emmanorthmore@yahoo.com info@balletboost.com 07958 725862 LIMITED PLACES as just the one group!!!
  6. Hello, I went on the grade of a child and your daughter was on the cut off age. As she was grade 4 I put her in the group of ages 10 - 13. Some of the girls were very tall. In any audition the class will leave some under challenged and some over as we are really looking at the physicality of a child and their potential to train well. Its a shame she felt resigned as I never wish that to happen but if I had put her with the 8 year olds at grade 1/2 I am sure you would have felt she was in the wrong group too?! Please do contact me if you wish to discuss this further. Its an audition process that unfortunately is never going to keep everyone happy and if they are not used to learning free work, can make it seem hard. Hope this helps x
  7. Yes some schools are surprisingly accommodating where further training is involved. Some even allow weekly PE classes to be missed to allow for extra Ballet coaching if that child has a passion/talent for Ballet.
  8. Ellie - Please don't stress too much. Every company needs its 'white rabbit' for Alice in wonderland o r 'Puck' etc!! Many smaller boys working well you just may not see them in the press releases!!!
  9. Thank you for all the applications so far, I will be in touch shortly with confirmation of times which will start at 10am with the youngest Junior Associates.
  10. I did try my best to check dates but they are all so varied now and space in central london is not easy to find - i am restricted to that week for now!! All i can suggest is (as some are doing) Talk to your school - if they have a passion then most would allow them to take the time as we all know not a lot happens, especially in those last two days!!
  11. Although I would love people on my ballet Boost Summer Course I do feel its only fair to say that its vital these dancers have some rest time. They learn a lot about their bodies through rest and regaining fitness in preparation for back to school in Sept. managing their fitness is a vital lesson in surviving life as a dancer. Constant training will end in tears and injury. So have a great summer, choose a couple of courses wisely and enjoy the rest!!
  12. Hi Its a day summer school and open to all students. Arucaria.......is this a normal academic school?? Most finish 21st hence I have started on the 24th july.......

  19. A proper associate scheme will be fully focused on the precise training of each child. Obviously with RB there can be some great performance opportunities but otherwise its training and watching last class of term. I allow mine to attend rehearsals for opportunities such as LCB as performing is important to a point. The training must not be over shadowed by excess rehearsals as we all know too much time off leaves the dancer weeks behind. I have gone to great lengths to keep costs as low as possible in all areas as its vital all children have the opportunity to attend these classes.
  20. Hi Ballet Bean I Assistant Director on this course for two years under the guidance of Margaret barber and I can say that it is a fabulous course! I also did this after leaving ENBS and can honestly say that the only reason I had such a good career was thanks to the course at LSC. Whilst I am aware its run by Jennifer now as was too far for me once they moved to North London - I think it is well thought out and a great progression to working as a professional and all the teaching staff there are fabulous. As i always say - its not the name of the school , its the teachers within it !!!!
  21. Its all very exciting! We have 4 separate levels and are collaborating with an ex Royal Ballet physio too. I can't wait to help all these dancers. The website is up now for further details www.balletboost.com Just clarifying a date for very early january auditions - only a couple of spaces left in each class. I will post on this thread asap!! xx NB Easter bookings in full swing so don't miss the earlybird discount which ends Dec 4th 2016 £195 going to £215 afterwards x
  22. Due to the demand on the upper school day in Oct. I am allowing ages 14 plus to attend the Company audition day on the Friday 28th Oct. The feedback and advice will still be given in relevance to what they need its just that the work within the classes will be harder. If your DD enjoys a challenge and an added insight into whats required at Company level then please email me asap. I will ensure differentiation when necessary so its perfectly safe for them. The graduates will be asked to be on pointe for the class as is expected for companies where as the younger ones will remain on flat etc etc emmanorthmore@yahoo.com
  23. For those doing the LCB audition I will run other dates in January as long as we aren't full. Sorry for the distance - could you lift share?!! I had one girl flying from the Isle of Wight and another driving 3 hrs from the North ....... if I have space I may be able to offer a monthly option to help you ? x
  24. Ballet Boost will be holding auditions on Nov 6th at Rambert School, Twickenham for all dancers aged 8 through to 19. BBA will deliver Ballet training for the 21st century in line with all vocational and international standards. With a knowledge of Anatomy threaded throughout and contemporary at least 2/3 times a term. Wonderful musicians to inspire musicality and fabulous teachers who are fully abreast of the latest discoveries in dance science. Children will be inspired and motivated to apply all they learn throughout their weekly classes and their development and progression to vocational schools or other courses is fully supported in every way. True artists are sensitive creatures and the training at BBA will be very focused on nurturing the artists of tomorrow as well as training their bodies technically. The classes will run on alternate sundays at 10am and work around Cechetti, BBO and CBA dates (where possible) for those already attending their courses! Apply via emmanorthmore@yahoo.com where I can send you more detailed information on the levels and classes being offered. I always reply within 3 days so if you don't hear from me call 07958 725862 Website in two weeks i hope!! I look forward to hearing from you and creating a wonderful environment for your children to train in.
  25. Goes for all auditions. Royal do like a strappy leotard but any classical colour (i.e. not bright pink!) is acceptable. Avoid the over complicated styles today with lace etc, a simple criss cross is ok but plain, comfortable and flattering are best. i agree with testing them out as the newer materials slid the up their tights! Whilst on the subject - please tell your students/children that dragging their leotards up over their hips does not give them longer legs!!!! It just exaggerates the size of their hips. Always an immaculate bun (parting to suit their face shape - not everyone looks great with the hair straight back. Some suit a centre part with subtle twists to lift cheek bones) and take a spare pair of tights! x
