  1. I think it's more the influence on a child's dancing of a specific teacher or school held in good repute by the vocational schools that would carry any weight. Some of them are also associate teachers and some of them aren't.
  2. Is it possible to live in America and retain so much Englishness that comes across when DiL talks about her ballet teaching experience? Maybe a place with lots of ex pats? Anyway, I think we should revert back to the original topic!
  3. Yes, DiL, I have also wondered where you are... I shall carry on imagining that you are somewhere in South Africa (no idea why!) if you'd rather not reveal your whereabouts.
  4. You start using the term 'car to barre' in context. Dd opens car window and tips out half a bottle of water onto the road as I prepare to drive off to ballet class... Piccolo: Wouldn't it be easier to just bring home what you don't drink?! Dd: Wouldn't it be easier just to carry a lighter load?! Piccolo: Well you've only got to carry it from car to barre!?!
  5. Crikey, how awful! What a horrible read the title of this thread makes for! Huge loss for Ballet Cymru, their associates and of course his family. RIP
  6. Yes, if £7,620 full boarding fee per term plus the mandatory extra £900 and something to be precise were no object! Phew!

2dancers, this is the problem... Most people don't see what happens to people with head injuries because they're not out walking the streets the next day like people with broken arms etc. What isn't seen doesn't happen!

Well I don't want to change Melody's subject - plenty more venting left to do there - but why are cycle helmets not a legal requirement? It's no fun standing at the gates of the comp waiting to enforce helmet wearing on my teenage son singlehandedly on my day off. There were several boys leaving on bikes today without helmets and there wasn't a teacher in sight to challenge them. I don't think they should be allowed to cycle to school without helmets.
  9. Well my drive to work at about 06.30am was just beautiful. Couldn't see the moon but it was something about the way the light shone on everything. Work was super challenging, which I put down to the supermoon. On my way home I couldn't resist pulling over at the side of the road to get a picture. Hard to get a good pic on an iPhone though. Looks like a another street lamp!
  10. PV, I think you should patent that phrase ' car-to-barre' and sell it to Bloch to help fund your DD's ballet career!
  11. Remembering to go and look in the lost property box is a good thing from my point of view. I have bought my son two new hoodies for school this year. He knows they're the only ones he's getting this year. After loosing both last year and spending most of the year getting by on two short sleeved polo shirts because he wouldn't go to reception to look in the lost property box I hope he's learnt his lesson!
  12. Lema, i can see why it must be difficult to stop worrying. You obviously have a very talented dd and are trying to help her on your own. I remember at the funding final for Tring they said what a big responsibility it is to support a talented child with their dance when you haven't got the support of a vocational school. I thought it was really nice of them to acknowledge that. If it was a trip to the orthodontist to discuss teeth you'd be a bit peeved if you were told the orthodontist was not able to discuss anything with you. Sounds like you should keep going with it though but if doesn't work out she'll probably be just as happy and very successful in another career if as you say she's bright academically too.
  13. Well the mystery of how to quote goes on...
  14. Just joking btw, good luck to all ;-)
  15. I wonder if it will make the other options more competitive... That's reality though I suppose... RBS are now doing half term master classes though which may not be convenient for the international students. Fingers crossed!!!
  16. Yes, the handbook states that current MA's are assessed yearly. I really hope there was maybe a bit of miscommunication with the receptionist. I could do with a year off! Whether it's called an audition or an assessment they've still got to meet the RBS criteria to carry on haven't they? Let's not go giving anyone any new ideas though :-) sssh!!!
  17. ... What Jane says at the start of this thread is pretty much as it is. Nothing else to add... :-)
  18. Brilliant! Hope all goes well :-)
  19. You may be right. I seem to remember it went at the bottom for JA's. Bows certainly look much nicer at the top of the bun on my Dd. I expect danceintherain and her dd will find out tomorrow! :-)
  20. Danceintherain, I think you're supposed to cut the ribbon in half and make a small neat bow to go under the bun. I would probably cut off a couple of cms as I think it looks neater. Make the ribbon ends look nice, and burn them a bit so they don't unravel. Don't get neurotic over it (like me!).
  21. How about the PTA clothing that the School sells? They look quite nice... Usually sold at auditions...

    Really? Just for one tyre?!

Kwik Fit :-( ... £30 approx for a cheap tyre, no mid range choice, £65 for a premium tyre. So, being as the car barely made it into the garage, ripped off again I am :-( !!
  24. Yes, my dd also enjoyed the summer school, although she was homesick at the start. She found the teaching very helpful and made friends with a lovely group of girls. I have to say there were couple of exceptional dancers in the final demonstration. I hope one day I can buy a ticket to see them in ROH as principle dancers.
