  1. ...maybe the style is no different. I know nothing about dance. Just the taxi driver. No idea what dd means!
  2. There's a big emphasis on encouraging creativity, and you have to be able to demonstrate creativity at auditions for voc schools don't you? RAD is more about taking direction isn't it?
  3. Audition process is the usual... Send photos, take a class which involved some free movement. No idea what else as I didn't get told. Few weeks to hear the result I think.
  4. Yes it is an excellent scheme. Send an email to Mandev. He and the others are SO helpful. Address is on their Facebook page or website I think. Unfortunately dd's heart is now with the RBS style of ballet (after doing JA's) and with her local schools way of teaching so has not really taken to it. She is always asking me to look for a Jazz class and a modern class though so is open to other styles. Very fussy about ballet though! Great scheme though. They really work hard.
  5. ... Can't help asking!!!
  6. Congratulations all! So will that free up any MA places?!
  7. Is this likely to affect the Tring wait listers? Wondering if places taken up at Elmhurst would free up places at Tring?
  8. Lottie, this changed in 2014 because I remember the Associate class timetable for 2013 had class times for JA1, JA2, MA1 & MA2. I believe the children from the other JA centre that was feeding into the MA class were eventually given the 2 or so places that became available.
  9. Ok Happymum, hoping that a little bit of your luck comes our way :-) Good luck with Elmhurst :-)
  10. Another short'waiting list for my Dd. The waiting just seems to go on and on as SWL last year too... The life of a ballet mum... No one ever told me it would be all about waiting and sewing! Congratulations Heppymum and everyone else with a Yes! Clearly a massive achievement going by the few available places :-)
  11. The Quays, reading your diary with interest... Love my food too! Are you drinking enough water? The brain can confuse dehydration with hunger as you get older. I have found that keeping properly hydrated is a simple and cost free way to regulate appetite, feel clear thinking (and have clear skin!) and feel energised. I used to think that drinking lots of water would make me feel bloated, but actually it has the opposite effect. I watched a programme on TV recently that proved that soup is more filling than a cooked dinner. It showed that is because it stays in the stomach for longer. Lots of healthy soup ideas out there that are cheap to make. Also, got to recommend Tesco's Healthy Living Banoffee Muffin Dessert for a treat. 148 calories. Best thing I've tasted for ages! Going to buy a stash next time and hide them in the bottom of the fridge behind the veg!
  12. Quite an achievement to get MA's at Bath then, or even SWL ...
  13. Well I never! Money certainly talks! But for how long?
  14. Oh, dd says reserve until September. don't know why I heard December. We'll be put out of our misery a bit sooner than I thought!
  15. Thanks Happymum! Fingers crossed for you and yours too. I'm still expecting your daughter to go off to ballet school so fingers crossed for Elmhurst! :-)
  16. Well dd has sent me a text which says 'I didn't get the funding'. No mention of reserve list but she wouldn't have read the rest of the letter and is now at ballet. Just got hold of my son who has read the letter over the phone to me. Reserve list too until December. Let's hope for a good day for a 'yes' between now and December!
  17. Happymum, it was a lady on reception who said a two week wait but I think she must have been guessing just to give me an answer. The Head of Dance is probably a more reliable source. Clara, I was quite shocked to see the few very balletic looking girls walking out of the school at the same time as us with no physio assessment. I suppose it's the harsh reality, but after reading Swayback Sapphire post, there might be a small chance. There were scores to be added up too as dd reminded me... The Head of Dance did say that, but I'd already read into the fact that there was no physio for dd. Well, good luck all. Let's hope whatever decisions made on behalf of our children are fair and that those who are awarded the MDS make the most of it. Only saying that after seeing a few bored looking ballet students staring out of the window... Mentioning no names of schools of course!
  18. Well, no physio assessment for my dd in the 11.15 class :-( . They took 5 girls out of a group of about 12 girls and a 2 boys for physio, saying it was only because they 'needed more information'. Thus, dd is still in high spirits and happy where there is still hope, and I can see that an MDS would probably not be awarded unless children meet the physical criteria. Bit draining after so much preparation. I expect dd will shrug it off though and carry on because she still has her local classes that she loves. Some of the children in the audition were already pupils at Tring and had come out of their ballet class to audition. Very harsh situation for them, I thought. I was told results would be in two weeks by letter, but that they were uncertain because someone from group 1 had asked and had been told Friday. Thought it must have been you Happymum!
  19. Over 60 for 9 MDS places? Well I won't get too neurotic over the leotard straps I'm about to shorten then. Can't imagine it's going to make much difference the the outcome of the audition really is it?!
  20. Jane, thanks, that's a great help. A pair of split sole canvas shoes arrived today so the fact that the spare pair hadn't arrived in the first place must have escaped my attention with all the rushing around this week. Hopefully, between the 4 shoes three'll be two that will be good. If not, I'll wash them.
  21. I ordered dd some stretch canvas ballet shoes that usually fit like a glove. She has tried them on tonight and they seem slightly bigger than usual, bunching under the arch and the spare pair has gone missing. Does anyone know if they could be shrunk, by how much, and how to shrink them. If not, if I order another pair tonight, I wonder if they'd arrive by Tuesday morning? She has the Tring final on Wednesday.
  22. Happymum, after seeing your dd dance at the RAD class, personally I'll be amazed if she gets a no from RBS even though they only take 12 girls. Good luck all!
  23. That sounds about right. Our school has something similar.
  24. Well, it will be a nice day off work and a day out. I'm looking forward to parking myself in the little cafe I found last time off the high street. Was hoping for an opportunity to go back there for another bowl of their gorgeous homemade soup with a chunk of bread and butter. Can't wait!!
