  1. Oh yes, definitely go to A & E. I think if you're every in a quandary over health issues, hand the problem over to the health professionals - let them decide what's best for your toe. Only way to get confirmation that it is healing as it should. Good luck!
  2. In all fairness to dd though sarahw, it was a frank answer to an absurd question! Hee hee!
  3. Only yesterday dd said to me, "You'd have made a terrible ballet dancer. You gave up because ballet flats were uncomfortable, and you can't sew!!"
  4. Yep, I agree with you there BlueLou. Or going into complete meltdown over it and declaring that you can no longer cope. That works too. Never been asked to sew since!
  5. Hi Happymum, yes I've just read some reviews on Amazon and they're all good. Think I'm going to enjoy it too! :-) Happy reading!x
  6. Thanks all for your ideas! I'll go with the majority vote and get her Zerlina Mastin's book. She's an instagrammer so I expect she'll enjoy health.on.pointe too. :-)
  7. Do any of you better informed people know which is the best dance nutrition book to invest in at the moment? Dd is 13 and wants to know more about nutrition. I thought a good dance nutrition book would help her. Thanks in advance!
  8. I can't help seeing the dark side to this clip. So much fur being worn. So very beautiful and at such a cost - not just financial :-( Hopefully times have changed.
  9. Well done to your dd :-) I think leather and canvas is the most popular. I expect you'll be recommended to Dancewell in Bristol though, where you'll get the right advice for your dd as well as for Bath MA's.
  10. Cecchetti associates in Newport is an option, depending on what your dd is looking to get out of it. The audition, I think, is more of a formality, so class sizes are quite large. Although the teaching is probably good (members of Ballet Cymru go in to teach the ballet), I don't think there's much opportunity for individual corrections. Your local teacher would probably prefer that your dd is secure in her technique first. Great if your dd likes musical theatre as there's lots of singing, music from the musicals. The children had to dance holding an A4 sheet of paper with the words on though, which I don't suppose was great for dance technique. How about Ballet Cymru's Abergavenny Intensive? It's a lovely little course for an 8yr old. It's held in a beautiful teeny tiny little old theatre above the market. I think there's a more serious associate class on the north east edge of the Brecon Beacons, run by an ex ballet dancer (sorry, don't know the name of the school, but I'm sure it wouldn't take long to work it out with google), who aims to prepare children for the vocational route. I see you're prepared to travel!
  11. Well, I have thrown caution to the wind and splashed out on 2 raised stall tickets for the Mariinsky ballet at WMC for DD and I. She wanted to buy the best seat available with her birthday money, which meant I had to buy the best seat available (not the cheapest seat!) to sit next to her. Anyway, we're looking forward to tomorrow night :-)
  12. PV, not that anyone would want you to feel discouraged from pushing the boundaries of creativity with your writing though. Post away!
  13. Snowflake, don't give up hope for MA's yet. I don't think they give out all the yes responses straight away. Also, more places do come up when children decide not to continue or don't accept their offer. Your DD has had a yes for RB summer school, a yes for WL finals and a 'yes, we'd like to have her if we have a space' for MA's. I'd say she's doing really well and it all sounds promising! I think Elmhurst also have an associate scheme for older children too now, don't they...if you need a distraction from the wait?
  14. Ah, ok thanks all. I just wondered how tricky it was to get to finals for yr 9 Elmhurst. We cancelled on the morning of the 1st audition (DD - illness free all winter - had a raging temperature!). The rearranged audition was almost as disasterous, arriving after midnight due to roadworks and because I had to work. It just wasn't meant to be! Good luck all!
  15. Were there any girls trying for yr 9 places at Elmhurst finals? As far as I can see they were all trying for yr 7 & 8...
  16. Speaking of the Grand Audition... I think this is a great idea of a ballet mum friend we met at auditions (can't pass it off as my idea as I know you read the forum!). Wouldn't it be easier to have one final/ funding MDS audition for all the schools? Less time off school and work and cheaper too...
  17. Apparently, there can also be some movement between the schools after assessments too, another factor to be aware of...
  18. Pictures, is that really a skillful and productive way to describe how to improve on the first attempt? :-( When you think of the cost of lessons, I'd expect a more considered response. Also, when you think about how much time children spend in the company of their dance teachers, how to dance is not the only thing they learn...
  19. The MDS doesn't cover all costs so £2,450 plus a bit extra for the year I expect. Not too bad. The outgoings are high for a ballet child living at home anyway...
  20. Amos, yes, all very tricky. I have de cluttered the house and thrown out all the Tring paraphernalia so not sure what the exact amount for the deposit is. I think it was around £2,450.
  21. The odds will probably be slightly better if those with multiple offers chose other schools. I'm sure it's going to be very interesting to see, especially since the other finals haven't even taken place yet! Fingers crossed for a bit of movement on the reserve list!
  22. Lema, it seems a happy place that has a personality. Not just a persona. I get the impression it allows individuals to flourish and not just conform. Who knows. Maybe I've got my rose tinted glasses on again... Fingers crossed for your DD. Maybe no news is good news this time :-)
  23. Well, I only saw the reserve list letter tonight after work and it's so nicely worded. DD appears to have 'taken it with a pinch of salt', saying its a standard letter sent to all. But it's such a nice standard letter. Can't help liking this school...
  24. I feel that if DD isn't good enough to get a funded place, realistically, she's probably better off staying at the local comp. The dance world is too tough... By doing the funding audition, at least we know where we are in the pecking order...
