  1. Can anyone recommend any masterclasses or summerschools in the Manchester area. My daughter is 10. Ballet is preferable but she likes all styles!
  2. Thanks, I had 'the chat' and it turns out that she just feels that she needs more time to relax. Obviously nights are long here and bed times are early so winter term is the hardest. We have agreed that we will extend her bed time an hour from January to give her more time to finish homework and relax online or watching tv on the condition that she tries hard in class. We will keep things as they are until the end of the school year and see where we are. There is another vocational school that concentrates solely on ballet and would only require a 5 hour commitment next year (3 days after school plus one optional stretch). This could be an alternative to the current one which will up training to 5 nights next year. The only downside is the more classical school is considerably more expensive ????????????
  3. The graded school is a stage school which she does all day Saturday. Grade 3 ballet, hip hop, modern tap and lamda. Vocational school is 4 days after school (we finish at 2 here) for between 2 and 3 hours at a time. She does classical vaganova, danza espaƱol, stage make up and intro to musicality.
  4. So, my daughter goes to 2 schools, one bbo graded syllabus where she has consistently achieved high end marks like distinctions in exams, and the other vocational. This term her vocational teacher gave us a mixed assessment. She says that although DD has a fantastic physique for dance, that she is lazy in class and doesn't give it her all. I've spoken to DD and she still says she loves dance but I'm wondering if it's just "that age" (she's almost 10 and has already hit puberty). She needs to continue at the vocational school as the other does not offer enough classes at her level. Should I make her stick at it or am I being selfish??
  5. My DD is really feeling it. She is 9 and is the 2nd year of vocational school. She is up at 7 each morning and has to fit in up to 3 hours training 4 nights a week. Tag on 1 hour round trip for travel and we do get the occasional moan and groan. That said on the days I've had to gee her up, she has still come out of class happy. At least in our case she is still home each night and I can see how she's eating and coping etc
  6. Wow..thanks for the info and the links to previous threads. I'm certainly pleased to have found her an avenue for more training. I am very loyal to her current Saturday school but was a bit worried as she is still on grade 1 (no exam done last year due to show) and there are only one set of classes offered at her level. Obviously DIL flamenco is a big thing here too. After the first 4 years, you can choose to specialise in either ballet or danza espanola. Wasnt aware that it was such a hit in Israel though!!
  7. She does 1.5 hours of 'expresion'. I guess that's like either character or intro to contemporary. 2 hours Spanish dance. 2.5 hours of ballet and 1 hour musicality and then a rehersal class. Saturdays are the usual mix of ballet tap and modern. From what I understand, at age 8. It wasnt a pre-requisite to have had dance experience but most have. Although most of the intake are 8 some girls can start as old as 14 in the first year.
  8. Hi, have been following this forum for a while. As we live in Spain though it's a little difficult to relate to everything. Vocational training is subsidised here from age 8 and my daughter was recently accepted. She goes to the local conservatory 8 hours a week after school, and goes to her usual dance school for another 2 hours at the weekend. I guess I want to know whether 10 hours is enough for an 8-9 year old? What ages are your kids and what hours are they doing?
