  1. I'm going to this and have just seen that Osipova and Polunin are to present this show at the Edingburgh International Festival in August. Info on the EIF website. I wonder how that will be received?
  2. Yes I had done that too - was on tenterhooks all day. Osipova definitely gives me goosebumps though. She is a dancer who owns the stage, in my opinion. I have followed her since I saw her dance the bridesmaid variation in the Bolshoi's Don Q in 2008 I think. Alexandrova was Kitri and that was a battle of the ballerinas!
  3. The goddess of the dance smiled on the Roh last night and it was a ladies night I felt. Such a cast - Osipova, Nunez, Kaneko, Calvert, the Wilis. No man could match them. I was thrilled to see Osipova again and Nunez as Myrtha (first time that I have seen her in this role). Thank you mr O' Hare for this luxurious casting. Nunez was icy, imperious and heartless, surely she could freeze the blood in the veins of any living being. Osipova so moving and I can never forget her first appearance as a Wili. I just missed that tenderness of the pas de deux that I recall with Acosta. So glad that I persisted in exchanging tickets and not giving up hope - would have been so disappointed to have missed this performance. Even up to the opening I wasn't sure if Osipova would dance and neither were many others I think. Third time lucky!
  4. That's a shame about Morea. I attended the performance on 20 Jan. Enjoyed both pieces - it was first time of viewing for me. I was on the Amphi and could really appreciate the lovely patterns of the corps - reminded me of Balanchine. As for Osipova - I could only think of that quotation "She walks in beauty...". She and McRea went for broke I thought. His part was definitely bravura but hers not so much (I think). Wonderful music too. I don't like the Telegraph review and the placing and comment on the photos seems critical to me in an unpleasant way. It seems poor taste when the cinema screening is on 26 Jan. Choe and Campbell were charming in Two Pigeons. A lovely evening and I am looking forward to the cinema showing. Great shame about Morea though.
  5. Alison re Osipova in this role - I saw her in 2013 at roh and thought that she looked more comfortable in the Russian version above. Could be the effect of a different partner perhaps as well. With respect to historic clips my favourite is the youthful and radiant Ekaterina Maximova from 1958 on YouTube. So charming that I have watched it numerous times.
  6. Well I am very excited about the Bolshoi visit and the opportunity to see all the dancers. I do hope Obraztsova will be coming as I would love to see her again, as well as some of the younger dancers. I missed Corsaire in 2010 so, having seen the cinema broadcast will be booking for that. I think I will give Swan Lake a miss though. It seems that this may be Sergei Filin's final London tour so I hope it will be memorable for all the right reasons - and not for mishaps and injuries!
  7. That is good news indeed Andy and thanks for the report. Off topic but I see from Facebook that Polunin's partner in M & A was the great Nina Ananiashvili. I would be very interested in any reviews of this performance as I remember her bolshoi performances in London.
  8. Don Q fan it was about two hours including the two intervals. Alison - thanks I am tempted ...
  9. I am very sorry to hear this news and wish Ms Osipova a swift recovery. I do remember reading somewhere (can't remember where now) about the injury to the foot and that it really needed an operation.
  10. I went on the opening night at the Peacock . It was all great fun but the technical skill was very impressive as well as the comic timing. I loved the dance of the cygnets. It was the first time that I have seen the Trocks and I am pleased that I went.
  11. Friday seemed reasonably busy I thought. I enjoyed the performances, especially the chance to see the dancers in Tristesse. Having seen Facada last year I was really looking forward to seeing it again. I love the black humour and thought that Osipova was truly mad and scary in her dance on the grave. She was fierce! The two Russians next to me were totally unmoved though.
  12. My husband and I were at the roh yesterday for the performance - this is a real "champagne" ballet, it simply fizzes! My husband was delighted that this was a happy ballet. We loved it all. The chickens, the ribbons, the clog dance, the pony trying to demolish the stage. We both agreed that osipova and McRae were well matched, the romance was so tender, as was the love of the parents for their children. Now I want to see it all over again (perhaps Sunday).
  13. I agree Don Q fan, my husband and I very much enjoyed it too. Salenko seemed very assured for a debut in the role with the RB and she cannot have had much time to rehearse with McRea.
  14. I saw this at the cinema in Guildford, which was pretty full. I am not a fan of the designs and as has already been mentioned dark costumes against a dark background made it difficult to see the dancers. I will see if it is ant better on Saturday when I go to ROH. I thought all the dancers were wonderful, Act 3 was very exciting and Act 4 very moving. I think Natalia is still developing this role, it has evolved since her first performance with Carlos. Matthew Golding was a fine prince. Lovely photo of Natalia at the curtain call with a soft toy swan on her facebook page! It is interesting to me that neither Natalia nor Evgenia had an opportunity to dance this role with their original Russian companies - so glad they have elsewhere. It would have been tragic if they had not the chance to dance this role.
  15. Royal Ballet just tweeted that Obratzsova is not available to dance on 21 March due to being recalled by the Bolshoi, no announcement made about her replacement yet. I am disappointedl as I bought the tickets months ago- oh well as least I have been informed! Who would partner Mcrea?
  16. Yes got my tickets for the local Odeon. Quite a few tickets sold already - by the time of the performance it may be sold out!
  17. Wonderful performance last night from the whole cast. It was the first time that I have seen Onegin and I feel so fortunate to have seen this cast. I note that there has been some comment that Osipova changed the steps and that the mirror pdd had a mishap. As I don't know this ballet at all I cannot judge that. However, it was a very moving and harrowing performance. The pdd with Gremin was very tender.
  18. What a lovely production and it was a great evening. The audience in upper circle was very badly behaved - not switching off phones and talking through the performance! The dancing was wonderful, the pas de trois, and Neopolitan were particularly good. I have never seen Alina dance before, although I have seen Ivan but not in such a classical role. The White acts were sublime and the black act terrific.the tragic ending was so fitting. Very pleased that I managed to get a ticket.
  19. I am delighted to hear about Maria Alexandrova's return to her brilliant form after her injury at the ROH. I was watching again the broadcast of La Baydere in the cinema and her Gamzatti was thrilling. I hope that she continues to grace the world stage.
  20. Is anyone listening to this show on Classic FM on Saturday afternoon at 2.00? Deborah is presenting music from the ballet and I have found her to be a very intelligent and interesting presenter. You can use the app to catch up if you have missed it.
  21. Wish the Mikh would come back to London next year - would love to see their Flames and Class Concert. If the Bolshoi and Mariinksy are not coming to London there is a gap in the market.
  22. I think Vue are showing this - not sure how many cinemas though. May be worth checking?
  23. I have only seen Manon once before and it was many years ago, so I saw it with fresh eyes. Therefore, my views may be different to those who have seen it many times. I found it very moving and the final act was heartbreaking. The scenery made me think of a Hogarth print. I thought that Acosta and Osipova were wonderful together - I did not notice any lack of chemistry. A great evening all round - which made up for all the travel problems with trains and tube!
  24. How views differ - I thought that MSND was sublime. However, I was disappointed that Titania and Oberon had so little dancing compared to the Ashton that I saw earlier this season at the RB. It was a thrill to see Lopatkina again and the whole cast was on top form.
  25. Well my husband and I were there last night - what a wonderful evening of classical ballet. We both enjoyed the Firebird and DSCH. We were so glad to have seen it - it was truly joyful. Is Ratmansky not Balanchine's heir? My husband was not so keen on M & A. Vishneva was very moving I thought. I have never seen this before so cannot compare this performance with the RB for example.
