  1. My dd is going to Brussels International Ballet School Summer School in August. The training there is Vaganova.
  2. DD says there are changing rooms and toilets. The audition includes a ballet class, pointe work and small contemporary section. Hope that helps
  3. Has anyone attended/know anything about Brussels International Summer School?
  4. I used to get my dd's tutus for festivals from www.tutus2u.co.uk

  6. Has anyone/is anyone applying to Dresden Summer School?
  7. Try lemon juice on feet to prevent blisters.....smells lovely too Xx Dd also did 'Coppelia' aged 13. She was a Morning Hour and Czardas also on pointe (she was very tall).
  8. I'd recommend Bristol Russian Ballet Summer School. This year they are doing an Easter Intensive Ballet Course from 29th March - 2nd April for Intermediate - Advanced Ballet students. Subjects taught are: Ballet technique, Repertoire variation, Character Dance, Pas de deux. 21st July - 24th July for Pre-Intermediate - Intermediate students. 9. Is anyone auditioning for European schools (2015 entry)?
  10. Just an update.....ds auditioned for Music college and was offered a place on the Level 2 course on the spot. A tutor who assisted ds in setting up the drums said before the audition 'he's very good' and after the audition 'just the wait now, I suppose?' We told him ds had been offered a place and the level and he said he wasn't surprised - ds was too good for them to turn him down. He starts in September (Yr11). Ds applied to be a Young Assessor before Christmas (going to youth centres around our city to assess if they are meeting young people's needs) - he has been selected (had his first training session of 6 last week) and is really enjoying it. He has also been asked to join a band that have already had gigs locally (he was chased by 2 bands so had to choose!). Though I do think think 3 performers in the family is crazy!!
  11. If Bristol's not too far try 344 Dance School or Bristol Russian Ballet School
  12. I've ordered my dd these for Christmas/Birthday.....they look lovely and you can choose your own colours Her dance studios are really cold so these warmers should be great for her. http://fab-knitwear.com/
  13. Hi LinMm. yes. Bristol Russian Ballet School have their own website on www.Bristol Russian ballet school.com The school also has videos on you tube of previous summer schools. Next year their summer school will be at the end of August. My dd has done this summer school for the last two years and would recommend it. There are always student attending from vocational schools and the standard is very high.
  14. My ds has been invited to meet the Lord Mayor of our city next Tuesday. Ds has become quite an activist in our local area and has been campaigning on getting work done in our area by contacting our local Councillors and Council Officers. He's 15. However ds has ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and Dyspraxia (he did ballet when young and then moved to tap and now does drumming) and struggles with school work especially writing. We have been looking into colleges for 6th form as ds's school only goes up to Yr 11. A local music college asked if ds would like to apply for Yr11. THis would mean only doing 2 GCSEs and a BTEC in music - far more manageable for him and we have a meeting on 27th November at the college. The school Senco has offered to be there too. Ds is participating in a concert on 17th December with the area schools' Philharmonia Orchestra. Just goes to show that they will all find their place even if sometimes the odds are stacked against them
  15. My dd has had photos taken by Derwood Pamphillon....he's based in Bristol but has a website and is branching out into portfolios for dancers. I know my dd would recommend him (and his photos are fantastic). http://www.derwoodphotography.com/
  16. Scotland's practical reference asks for the following: Performing or composition ability, experience and potential. General academic ability in music, drama, dance, screen or production. Practical skills. Attitude to work and reliability. Professional commitment. Communicative ability It asks for 2 separate references so if a dance teacher did one then the other needs to be someone who can comment on academic ability. Hope that helps
  17. Rambert and Scotland Conservatoire asked for academic references and practical references....can't remember re: Central, sorry.
  18. Yay.....dd passed all her GCSEs and I passed GCSE Maths! So happy Hope everyone got the results they hoped for and if not it's never too late lol!
  19. Both my dds have had pointe shoe fittings at Dancewell (no appointment needed) and have had good fitting shoes. However, after being advised to go to London as there is more selection, younger dd now wears Gaynor Mindens (she had been en pointe for 4 years by then) and now I just order them online. Kathy's Dancewear in Fishponds, Bristol also do pointe shoe fittings (appointment needed) but the last time I went there they had to order in more pointe shoes (should add my dds have wide feet but narrow at the back so if they fit at the front they slip off at the back!).
  20. I guess it depends where they go. My dd's school has no 6th form so she would have had to leave school anyway. Sixth form colleges offer English and Maths GCSEs. My dd is going to a full time private dance college in September which does not offer GCSEs so if she were to fail her GCSEs she would have to go to a local college and retake probably in the evenings. I recently did this myself for GCSE maths and the course and exam was free.....my results are due on the same day as dd's so hoping we both pass
  21. There's a travel lodge near by - the train station is next door. Dd and I walked to Rambert from there (took about 15 mins) but other girls staying at the travel lodge got a taxi
  22. Bristol Russian Ballet School if you are in the South West
  23. Is anyone auditioning for RCS on Saturday 14th June?
  24. And Bristol Russian Youth Ballet Company
  25. My younger dd wears Gaynors. I worked out we spend virtually £500 a year on her pointe shoes so about 6 pairs. She does 3 pointe classes a week plus associate ballet class every other week and performances on pointe (full length ballets) a couple of times a year. She also has highly arched feet but I don't think she is as hard on her shoes. Her older sister recently changed from freed to bloch as freed only lasted about 3 months and she doesn't do as much pointe - she went for harder bloch shoes so time will tell how long these last. She also has highly arched feet.
