  1. Thank you - put my mind at rest now
  2. I've just received a DaDA form for 2017/18.....dd is in her first year and we have no assistance for the maintenance which won't change so am feeling confused? Can anyone help?
  3. Good luck to your ds - my dd also made the transition from ballet to MT - she's now a first year and loving it and is so happy with her choice (she's still seen as a ballet dancer although her assessments show that she has equal marks in ballet, jazz and tap and her singing and acting are not far behind).
  4. Education Otherwise is a good organisation to start with and if you join, they can put you in contact with other home educators in your area. Locally, home educators tend to do IGCSEs rather than GCSEs.
  5. This link might help in regard to Musical Theatre degree courses: http://notapushymum.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=22492&p=243728&hilit=list+of+colleges#p243728
  6. I too have read these posts with interest. My dd has, since the age of 7 wanted to be a dancer before deciding at 13 that she wanted to try for ballet. She auditioned unsuccessfully at age 16 and 17 before being offered a place in a ballet school overseas after a summer school. She phoned home in tears, as she felt she didn't love ballet enough to do it professionally. She attended a private dance college from age 16 and had been dancing in all styles from tap, ballet, contemporary, commercial, musical theatre etc and felt she preferred dancing in all styles and wanted to audition for Musical Theatre. She decided to stay at her dance college part time and attended a part time Foundation course in Acting/Musical Theatre. She auditioned for 6 musical theatre/dance colleges aged 18 and got a place at all 6 and 3 DaDA offers. She took her RAD Adv 2 Ballet exam in July and passed with distinction which was a great boost before starting her vocational training She is now doing a Level 6 Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre and loving it
  7. You could try posting on the 'Not a Pushy Mum' site.....there has been posts on there about Chichester Uni although more for the MT course but someone might know more there. Hth.
  8. My dd's at Bird (1st Year) if anyone has any questions specifically for Bird
  9. 2nd DaDA offer received today for Bodyworks How things have changed
  10. Proud to announce that dd2 has been awarded a DaDA today for Bird College
  11. Also look at Bristol Russian Ballet School - they run Easter and Summer Schools and have a Youth Ballet Company for 13+.
  12. Congratulations Carmen and your dd Dd got a letter from Bird today with an offer of a place but no funding. Funding auditions start next month so it's going to be a long few months I think
  13. My dd attended 3 schools. In one she did Musical Theatre, a pilates class and had private singing lessons, in another school she did RAD ballet, ISTD tap and modern and a pointe class. In a 3rd school she did Russian ballet and youth ballet company. We are fortunate that all schools knew about one another, teachers trained and taught in 2 of the schools and the 3rd was considered an option for the more serious dancer. We are really grateful to all dd's teachers for her training and for them being so open to the other schools.
  14. Bristol Russian Ballet School are running their summer school at the end of August. There is no audition to apply. Russian Ballet Summer School 2 Intermediate – Advance level age 13 plus Fee: £200 22nd August – 26th August (12:30- 4:30pm daily) at David Lloyd Sports Club Subjects including: Ballet technique, Repertoire & Variation , Pas de deux Girls need to have minimum of 1 year experience in pointe works. 15. Will find it and pm you - she had a letter from Laine today and has a place there too
  16. littleballerina, Dd's solo was a lyrical jazz and she also did a contemporary monologue Thank you for your kind words - she has worked hard on her singing and acting this year (she is doing a pre-vocational foundation course in Acting/Musical Theatre part time and stayed at her dance college part time) as her dance is strongest and looks like it has paid off
  17. littleballerina, Laine audition is a song and monologue of 2 minutes max and dance solo is 1 minute 30 seconds. Good luck for Laine - my dd loved her audition there. Dd has places at Bodyworks, Millennium, Urdang and Performers - had Laine audition yesterday; Bird is in March and Tiffany Theatre College in April plus funding auditions
  18. Bristol Russian Youth Ballet Company.
  19. Bristol Russian Ballet School have a Youth Ballet Company. They perform a full length ballet every year - they were thinking of 'Coppelia' next year.
  20. I got dd's through Ebay (Hot Honey's Rags) http://stores.ebay.co.uk/hothoneysrags
  21. Bristol Russian Ballet School also has a Youth Ballet Company that performs full length ballets every year, This year they performed 'Nutcracker' and last year 'Cinderella'. Photos are on their website and on YouTube there is a short clip of Cinderella. Their contact details are on their website www.bristolrussianballetschool.com
  22. Our household is a bit mixed too - my husband and I both work. My husband and ds have asd (autism spectrum disorder) and ds also has dcd (developmental co-ordination disorder). Both struggle to help around the house (they just about cope with work/school and need to destress when they return). Older dd is training in Musical Theatre and younger dd is at a full time dance college. Ds starts at Music College in September. Older dd's help around the house with cooking etc. Ds empties the dishwasher and vacuums occasionally. I think it's harder for young people these days as expectations from school is greater - they certainly get more homework than I did and in GCSE years, younger dd had interventions after school and during school holidays so she had no free time at all during Yr11. All children do more chores during holidays than during term but take turns in cooking depending on who is home first
  23. My dd got hers from the Post Office (previous recommendations from this forum amongst others).
  24. You could contact Bristol Russian Ballet School - their website is www.bristolrussianballetschool.com Their contact details are on there.
  25. My older dd found writing the personal statement the hardest so might be worth doing that over the summer.
