  1. Mr Monahan certainly makes his case about Francesca's dancing being superior to Natalia's in the Ashton style. Very interested to compare their Giselle's and Mayerling in the future but there is no doubt in my untrained mind that young Ms Hayward is going to be an absolute star, if she isn't already, and should be nurtured going onwards. Really looking forward to seeing the cinema presentation with Natalia dancing and then Francesca at the matinee on the 30th.
  2. Very good point bangorballetboy, I read it that it was their first show on wednesday the 26th, which it does not say. Thank you for correctly reading the tweet not what I thought it said. Apologies to all who read my comments.
  3. Steven has just tweeted the below :- Natalia Osipova Retweeted Steven McRae ‏@_stevenmcrae 32m32 minutes ago RHAPSODY with Natalia Osipova! 1st Show Wednesday @RoyalOperaHouse LIVE in Cinemas 26th Jan! They are both still showing as dancing on the 20th and 23rd - confusion reigns.
  4. They will to start with but long term I expect that will be replaced. Who would have thought some years ago that there would be no ticket offices on the London Underground. All you need now is a prepaid card or your credit card and your journey is calculated automatically so I can imagine something coming along to replace paper tickets.
  5. Not near me, I don't think. I am in North London so the three cinemas who usually show live broadcasts aren't taking the Bolshoi for some reason. But I will keep checking as new cinemas are added. Tickets would certainly be cheaper.
  6. Like I said in my post #5 it has got to be tested and it has to work, because there is no going back to the old way.
  7. That will have to be accommodated but I hope people buy into this. I love all this technology stuff, it always amazes me.
  8. I am currently watching/downloading the current series of Bolshoi Unseen performances from the archives of Russian television recently uncovered. Not being familiar with the Bolshoi style I am finding it very useful in giving me some insight before their visit to the ROH in July/August.
  9. In addition it could stop the practise of forged tickets being sold. It could also stop ticket touts plying their trade outside the theatre although this may be less of a problem outside the ROH but for many other concerts/shows they are a nuisance. As long as the technology is properly tested and it works then it is a win win change.
  10. I think this is a great innovation. I currently receive my boarding passes for air travel in this way and it makes a lot of sense. No more worries about tickets going astray in the post, if you give them to someone else you simply email the file to them so, again, no fear of them being delayed. You don't even have to print them. Just open the file on your iphone or ipad and the barcode can be read in. Just imagine how much the ROH will save on postage, and you never know, they may reduce the price of the tickets, but don't hold your breath. Having said that, I hope they make a better fist of this than when they upgraded the web site for buying tickets.
  11. Nothing on my Friends page about this. It always lists the booking times etc in the past. Is this the only production for those ticket sales dates ******PLEASE IGNORE THIS - SAME BOOKING PERIOD AS THE BOLSHOI *****
  12. She has just tweeted that she is dancing Rhapsody with Steven on the 26th. The account ,I believe, is authentic but managed for her as her English is poor.
  13. Not a fan of clapping during the performance to be honest. At the NT you will get some applause at the interval and, in my experience, the cast take two bows at the end of the performance and that's it. This could be because there are no curtains that can be opened/closed at the performances I have seen. We do seem to have adopted the "American" style of clapping which involves lots of "whooping and hollering" for even average performances; which I find very irritating. I do confess, however, that I may have been guilty of this after a performance by Alina; for which I do not apologise. I have noticed that even at the RB some dancers do have the skill to drag out applause longer than would be the case by their deep bows to the audience and partner. As for clapping during the performance that's a big NO from me.
  14. Thought I read somewhere that he is joining the teaching/training crew at the RB.
  15. That's a relief, couldn't imagine Kevin coming onstage and asking, wait for it, is there a pigeon in the house
  16. Don't forget the costs of staging Two Pigeons are very much more than normal. After all they will need more than two pigeons in case one falls ill.
  17. Kasper Holten tweeted that "several" singers were ill.
  18. More problems for the ROH, tonight's performance of Orpheus has been cancelled, cast illness is the reason.
  19. Went to Friday nights production and, like others, I loved the first three but the last piece, Carmen, was a total anti-climax. Everything was so predictable, table dancing, shouts of Ole, hand clapping, Having a chorus onstage was a bit different but added nothing to the experience. And what Carlos was thinking of in having the boys push the girls across the stage on chairs with wheels during the Toreador song was a complete mystery, Cheaper than bulls I suppose. Matthew with horns is still Matthew, his pdd with Nela was silly. She is a game girl and was thrown around quite happily so credit to her. People cheered at the end but will not go to the cinema showing after this. Speaking of the other ballets, Sarah and Vadim was lovely in Faun as was Steven and Iana in the Tchaikovsky and I was very interested to see Chisato Katsura, who graduated from the RBS this year, dancing in Viscera. She is one for the future, mark my words.
  20. Takada and Hristov are first soloists whereas Nunez and muntagirov are principals so the latter two are of a higher rank, but there are no poor dancers at the RB. As far as seating, stalls circle for me, get the best you can afford, some of the cheaper ones down the side have a restricted view. Hope you enjoy
  21. Could someone help me on how to read the link. When I click on it the website opens but no articles are shown.
