  1. Not very pleased with the RB this morning. Signed on nice and early to get tickets for Frankie and James Insight Conversation in the Clore only to find it was already sold out. Some point being a Friend+ if they sell all the tickets beforehand to their wealthier patrons. Bolshoi is expensive too. Not a good start to the day.
  2. Took a chance and bought tickets for the first night hoping Alina would be dancing, and she is. Well pleased.
  3. Iana has just tweeted she is heading back to London to dance with Steven on the 27th. Does the mean not doing the rehearsal?
  4. I tweeted Alina and suggested this and both Alina and Johan replied "liking" my tweet. So the will is their, maybe if we all tweeted Tamara???
  5. Maybe we should move this to the opera thread, but I remember some wonderful, but long. Wagner performances when dear old Reginald Goodall was alive. He was slow. I also remember that the ROH never allowed him to conduct a performance but he would do all the rehearsals until the "named" conductor turned up, it was left to the English National to allow him on the podium. Shame on the ROH because he was a conscientious objector during the war they would not allow it. Sorry mods, completely off topic. Having a senior moment.
  6. Only on some things surely. Wagner would not work for an 8pm start; they would have to serve breakfast in the restaraunts not dinner.
  7. Alison, The RS Matinee is 11.30 on Saturday 9th. July. I think that's the end of term so they go home.
  8. They also have to consider what the evening performance is, some Opera sets are huge and complicated.
  9. If anyone wants to see how music and dance not only compliment each other but actually make the other better then tell them to go see Ashton's Rhapsody. I agree with Geoff regarding the pdd in After the Rain. Never forget that.
  10. There are articles in the programme giving some context to the abstract pieces but not on the free cast sheets.
  11. For the first time I found I enjoyed the two abstract pieces over the narrative one. In the first Marianela was just wonderful, as was Thiago, in their PDD, the whole audience was captured as evidenced by the total lack of coughing. They danced with such tenderness its hard to realise that they are no longer a "couple". As earlier correspondents have commented the final piece was just terrific, danced brilliantly with Beatriz more than a match for the two principal ladies and the ensemble pieces were a complete joy, particularly the four ladies who rightly got some applause of their own. Olivia is really starting to shine. However. I was very disappointed with Strapless. It was a vehicle for Osipova there is no doubt and she danced beautifully but Edward was totally wasted, hardly saw him "dance" at all; mainly just posturing around pretending to draw. Bonelli made the best of his PDD with Natalia but not much after that. They will need to put some oil on the wheels of the sets as they were louder than the music at one point. Having really enjoyed Christophers other narrative ballets, Alice and Winters Tale; I am sorry to say this was a complete letdown. I saw Sergie in the stalls watching Natalia but he missed the other pieces, shame he missed the best two.
  12. What a shame! on the ROH website.:- Chris Shipman (Interim Head of Online Content) responded on 2 February 2016 at 5:57pm Reply Thanks for all your comments about the upcoming Rhapsody / The Two Pigeons DVD and Blu-Ray release. Unfortunately we aren’t able to release the Hayward/Hay performance or include it as a bonus feature. As many of you have noted, there were cameras in the auditorium during the performance on 16 January, but these were only used for a camera rehearsal prior to the live cinema relay later in the run. Therefore there is no footage of the Hayward/Hay performance available for us to use. Chris ROH Head of Online Content
  13. I heard he was also appearing with her in her shows at Sadlers Wells in June/July
  14. Just home from the Principal free matinee performance and what a joy to watch such wonderful young talent on display. Every part of Francesca's body has music running through it - different to Natalia's interpretation but, for me, perfect. Beautifully partnered by James Hay, they both seem to caress the music in their steps. Particularly in the first pdd, took my breath away. Not to be outdone Beatriz and Matthew were a superb young couple in Two Pigeons. The innocence and cheekiness in Beatriz was a joy to watch and the final pdd, wonderfully played by the orchestra ( they are on top form under Barry ), was truly heart wrenching. Let us not forget the Rhapsody ladies in particular and the boys who accompanied the two leads perfectly, Claire was a seductive gypsy girl dancing with panache and the boys and girls filling the stage with joyous dance. Not a bad way to start a Saturday.
  15. Actually the ROH are asking for comments so why don't we gang up and ask them to include the Hayward/Hay version? Power to the People.
  16. DVD coming soon, just been announced by the RB. I have commented that it was a shame they could not also include Frankie's version, which I believe was also filmed, so we could compare her's and James' against Natalia's and Steven's
  17. Could they be tickets held back for students?
  18. Just noticed this morning that the statement on the cinema page saying cast lists would be available soon has gone? Does that mean they are not available or if they now are then does anyone know where they are?
  19. Lovely to see Laurretta was promoted to principal following her performance as Medora. What an excellant birthday present
