  1. I saw that as well. Are they recognised as a top school, equivalent to the RBS?
  2. Am I alone but does anyone think the Paquita at the end was less than a great finale. Perhaps I am being unkind but some of the Corps pieces were very poorly danced. I have never heard of this company so maybe I was expecting too much. What does anyone else think. No offence meant.
  3. Well, I am doing my bit. Going to three so far - the rehearsal, Frankie and Roberta's final performance. As an entertainment I love it.
  4. Hooray for Tamara and her staff for giving the opening performances outside of London. As a Lancashire lad I think London always seem to get priority over first nights etc. so to see this in Manchester is excellent news.
  5. It is incorrect to say it premier's at Sadler's Wells, it premier's in Manchester I think and ends in Sadler's Wells.
  6. Picking up on the theme of a Choreographers interpretation of a "classic" I am really looking forward to Khan's version of Giselle which premier's at Sadler's Wells in November.
  7. So did I, but being realistic would the bolshoi management allow this if there was any danger of injury to their artists?
  8. I was there, and I do know, and this has clearly shown me you are a troll, and hope the mods see this. Goodbye.
  9. You can't resist it can you. You have to say "the OTT crowd mugging etc.etc." Just want to cause arguement by ridiculing other people's enjoyment. Have you any social skills at all?
  10. Your post #52 says what value is my opinion if I am not forced to justify it. Disagree by all means but do not expect me me to care one iota what you may think of it.
  11. One of the great joys I have taken from this forum is the respect we show each other in accepting each other's views at face value. I love reading how people have enjoyed a particular performance without them having to justify why, the fact they enjoyed it is good enough for me. If I disagree then I keep it to myself, I have no right to expect them to tell me why they enjoyed it and certainly no right to make them feel their joy is misplaced. It will be a sad day if this forum becomes that way.
  12. If you think you can force me to justify my opinions, then you can think again. I will not set you to ignore, you are entitled to correspond on here, just like anyone else is, but I will ignore your insults. I am not interested in your or your families politics and neither is this fan club magazine.
  13. Could be interesting now godots_arrived hope I don't come to feel it was better while I was still waiting for him.
  14. I agree with Capybara. We saw the evening performance with Alexandrova and Lantratov and their Act 2 pdd was simply stunning, astonishing dancing of the highest quality. I thought the whole company were on top form and seemed to be really enjoying themselves and the thunderous response from the audience confirmed that they thought so to. Loved it when the two leads ran downstage to duck under the curtain just as it was about to hit the stage to leave them in front of it to huge cheers. Again a top performance from the orchestra. The was some cast changes announced as the curtain was about to rise and I missed them but the couple who danced as leads in the play within the story were also beautiful, particularly the girl. My second view of the Bolshoi and I can understand why they are held in such high esteem, Brilliant, Brilliant performance.
  15. Having looked forward to seeing the Bolshoi since booking opened I found myself feeling rather flat after watching Swan Lake on Saturday evening. I know they, like the RB, have many traditions and their own way of doing things but, for me, the performance lacked emotion. Certainly during part one of act one they know how to milk the audience of applause. It felt like every little dance was followed by a stop when applause was required, very irritating. The two leads, Krysanova and Chudin are superb dancers, they would not be where they are if they weren't, but there appeared very little chemistry between them. I thought the character of the Jester, danced by Denis Medvedev, was very well realised, he really reminded me of Wayne Sleep, great dancer but on the small size to get the big roles. I did not like the choreography for the corps at all, sorry, much preferred the RB's or ENB's version. Too much messing about. Half a dozen or so chaps, holding huge trumpets/horns walk on, pretend to blow them when the orchestra are not, and then walk off again; as do a huge number of ladies/gents having served no purpose at all. At the end of Act one the whole cast come on, including principals, to receive an ovation from the unsuspecting audience who by then are on their way to the bar. Bit of an exaggeration but it was a bit strange. I must give a final word of the orchestra who I thought, particularly the solo violin, played superbly throughout. Flames of Paris on Saturday, so lets see how that is. Must say it has really highlighted to me how lucky we are with our own RB and ENB and how much we rather take them too much for granted.
  16. Could not agree more with Don Q Fan. I thought this the best show I have seen, quality wise, particularly the boys. The five who danced the Concerto grosso are very good, assuming the cast list is correct, Simone Acri, Joseph Aumeer, Aitor Galende Brizuela, Giacomo Rovero and Lorenzo Trosello nailed it. I also loved the Mistake Waltz by Jerome Robbins, great fun from the ladies. But the two DQF mentioned; Kaho danced beautifully, shame she isn't coming to the RB; and Harrison Lee, amazing for someone who is only 15. It appears that after winning the Prix de Lausanne he had the choice of many schools, world wide, to continue his training and has chosen the RBS. I see great things for him. I absolutely love the Grand Defile, what a fantastic end it gives to the show, but I think I saw something a bit different this year. Following the whole school flying on to the stage in rows of boy/girl/boy/girl etc. during the cheering and applause the stage lights went out for just a moment and when they came back on the order had changed so all the girls were on one side and all the boys on the other. Is this normal or am I having a senior moment? Anyway, wonderful performance from some very, very talented young people.
  17. Great review Janet, I agree with all you say. I was at the evening performance and thoroughly enjoyed, to varying degrees, all the ballets. The only problem with the first one is to pronounce it, Qutb, the dancers interacted brilliantly, I thought, with Jason Kittelberger a tower of strength, Natalia must have felt very safe in his hands. I have to admit that it was gymnastic in a lot of movements but it drew you in. The second piece, Silent Echo, was a real eye opener for me as it seemed to mimic the whole tradition of a pdd; duet, solo, solo, duet showing lots of "classical" steps and lifts being perfectly in sync with electronic "music". Fabulous dancing by Sergei and Natalia, he really can dance. The third was a bit of a let down, to be honest. I loved the 60's setting and Natalia in a beehive and mini, a reference to Amy Winehouse I believe, was a total treat with Sergei doing a great James Dean impression but for some reason, and I can't put my finger on it, but it just missed the mark. Very enjoyable evening, don't understand some of the really negative opinions. I think all artists should come out of their comfort zone and try something new. She could easily keep repeating her SL, or Kitri or Giselle to huge acclamation so, fair play to her, she puts herself out their gives it a go. Well done Natalia.
  18. Frankie says on Instagram that she is performing Juliet with Steven tomorrow, was this expected or is someone injured, I thought she was dancing on the 19th?
  19. If you do start a petition I hope it has more success than our attempt to get Giselle put to DVD recently.
  20. Frankie has posted this on her Instagram account, which is freely available, so I hope I am not infringing any rules. If I am I am sure the mods will tell me "20 years ago I could only have dreamed of being a principal of The Royal Ballet. Today I was told that next season I will be just that. I'm overwhelmed. Thank you to everyone who has helped me here and to everyone who will help me with the hard work to come! Xx "
