  9. Well done on your weight loss Lisa! Just think that it's not long till your next award and stay strong! I get basic frozen sweetcorn from a supermarket where every little helps. It only takes seconds in the microwave to defrost and heat up and is more economic than the tins.
  10. SCOTTISH BALLET COLLABORATE WITH SCOTTISH ALBUM OF THE YEAR WINNER KATHRYN JOSEPH TO CREATE MUSIC VIDEO FOR HER NEW SINGLE THE BIRD The new music video marks the launch of Scottish Ballet Creative, an outlet for artistic projects exploring the relationship between camera, dance and digital media. “I am delighted to announce the launch of Scottish Ballet Creative with the release of The Bird video. Kathryn Joseph’s music and voice captured our imagination and the music video provides a wonderful starting point for an ambitious initiative that will see future collaborations between Scottish Ballet dancers, filmmakers, musicians and other creative artists to produce innovative dance works for our expanding online audience. Projects like these are vital to help us bring dance to a wider audience and will allow a new generation to experience the beauty of ballet up close.” Christopher Hampson, CEO/Artistic Director The Bird, directed by Scottish Ballet filmmaker and graphic designer Eve McConnachie, uses the skills of our own dancer/choreographerSophie Laplane. The haunting film features Laplane performing her own work, devised specifically to reflect the fragility and melancholy of the song, filmed on location on a desolate Scottish beach. The music video was launched at 2pm today exclusively by The List, the official media partners for Scottish Ballet’s Autumn Season. Eve McConnachie Film director Eve McConnachie’s previous creations include the short dance film Healah Dancing, shown as part of the Dance Odysseysprogramme at the Edinburgh International Festival 2013. The film was also selected to be part of the DANCE:FILM Festival in Edinburgh and the Dance on Camera festival in New York. Sophie Laplane Dancer, Sophie Laplane, joined Scottish Ballet in 2004 and has worked closely with Scottish Ballet’s CEO/Artistic Director, Christopher Hampson, to develop her choreographic skills. Her first commission Oxymore was showcased at the Edinburgh International Festival 2013, Scottish Ballet’s Up Close tour 2014 and more recently at the TEDx Glasgow event. Her latest work for Scottish Ballet, Maze, will receive its world premiere on Thursday 24 September 2015 at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal ahead of a tour across Scotland. Kathryn Joseph Singer/songwriter, Kathryn Joseph, won the Scottish Album of the Year Award in June for her debut album ‘Bones You Have Thrown Me And Blood I’ve Spilled’. This is her first single release from the album and it is a double A-side featuring The Bird alongside the new song The Worm. The double A-side single, which launches on 27 July, will be available to download and will also be out as a limited edition 7inch vinyl release. 11. Thanks Alice! I can't stop singing Everyone's a fruit and nutcase now!!!!
  12. I love the score of Sylvia, except for the pizzicato which, for some reason, I absolutely cannot stand. Slightly O/T but I also loathe the "Dance of the girls with the lilies" from R&J and the Wedding March from MSND!
  13. But if you don't live near or ballet only comes to your city once a year, you may not have that luxury. I used to come to London a lot for work and if it was an overnighter (once I was interested in ballet) I would go to ROH but I didn't have a choice of who or what to see. And I really wouldn't have known any better. The internet, DVDs and cinema broadcasts are great for widening your knowledge but if it is the same dancers used all the time how will anyone ever want to go and watch different dancers?
  14. I'm there for the first night, Thursday matinee and final Saturday. Say hello if you see me!
  15. This sounds like an interesting new production: https://au.news.yahoo.com/a/29017023/heroes-of-our-time-wheelchair-dancers-grace-bolshoi/ If anyone is seeing it, I would love to hear what you think.
  16. Erehwon, I am moving your post to a new thread and hopefully it will generate a great discussion. I hadn't realised you were based in Milwaukee! Michael Pink (the AD of Milwaukee Ballet) was previously the Assistant Artistic Director of Northern Ballet, one of the companies I follow, so I always look out for news of them! Milwaukee Ballet has 2 older NB works in their rep which many long-time fans of Northern Ballet would give their eye teeth to see again - Dracula and Giselle (the one set in the Ghetto). Have you seen either of these productions? I suppose the obvious way to learn about ballet is to watch as much as possible. Your reaction to the Wayne McGregor DVD is interesting. If you look through the various threads on this forum you will find that reaction to his works for the RB is very varied. When you are coming over, the UK is not as big as the USA and it could be worthwhile looking at what Birmingham Royal Ballet, Northern Ballet and English National Ballet are also doing. Many of the venues they perform at can be done as a day trip from London for a midweek or Saturday matinee. As well as the Royal Ballet you could also check out what other dance may be on in London at Sadler's Wells, the Peacock (operated by Sadler's Wells) and possibly other venues too. If there is a matinee on in Paris you could also take the Eurostar (train) there for a day trip! And, of course, everyone on the Forum will love to hear the details of your trip!
  17. Well, having enjoyed Tree of Codes, I bought Jamie XX's new album Colours to try. WOW is all I can say!
  18. I hope it is the version as presented by LFB/ENB in the mid 1980s - early 1990s. I have many fond memories of outstanding performances.
  19. Hello Leanne and welcome to the Forum! I hope your DD has a splendid time at the Hammond SS. Please let us know how she gets on.
