  1. Yes, that all rings a bell Billy
  2. In which case dippy I would reccomend that she consider taking a science, particularly Biology which opens the door to Sports Science/Physiotherapy type degrees. Chemistry and Maths are also regarded for these courses.
  3. There was a very talented & very tall young lady at Hammond a few years back who was deeemd to be too tall by some colleges/ballet companies but she is now earning a living (as reported in a recent newspaper article) and by all accounts having a fantastic time with a company who values highly trained dancers with a ballet background but requires a minimum height of 5ft 9. So I believe that if you have the talent the jobs are there but you may have to lookoutside the box.
  4. The number of MDS places varies year by year and often depends on how many Year 11's who will be leaving are in receipt of an MDS. The year my dd joined I know that 7 MDS were given out in Year 7 but by the time she reached Year 11 new students had joined who were given an MDS. A couple of years ago there were approx 40 children at finals/on the funding list and 14 MDS available (of which year 7 got most but year 10 got some too) but that was a high year. I beleive (anecdotal only though) that this year is a lower year in terms of number of MDS available and I don't kow how many were on the finals list (taking note that Year 10 entrants don't attend finals)
  5. I'm fairly sure employer pension contributions were not taken into account. I did have to provide dividend statements and interest earned from savings as well as P60's. I took photocopies of what I sent off but am not 100% sure of where they are. I'll have a look. I know that if you have a company car etc you have to provide your P11D.
  6. In terms of A levels I think its important to choose subjects that you are good at and will enjoy. If she is not sure what kind of degree she may want to apply for then having at least two facilitating subjects keeps more options open and having a maths/science subject alongside an essay subject can also keep options open (but its no good doing that if someone is not mathematically or scientifically minded or (like my ds) struggles with writing/essay subjects. So lookat the subjects your dd is takinjg for GCSE. What does she enjoy the most? What are her predicted grades? Then make a shortlist.
  7. I do, however, have to agree with Anna about living independently not being suitable for everyone at age 16 and dd chose to mostly apply for schools that offered either home stay with a family or boarding.
  8. Having attended a vocational Lower School my dd originally intended to go back to normal school and apply for Musical Theatre training at 18 thus having more options (degree & diploma). However in her case she was given feedback both by a teacher at her vocatinal school and at an external college that it would not be the best course of action for her due and she would in effect be wasting her time doing two years recreational training at a much lower level than she was used to so you really need to look at your own circumstances and what is available locally and at what level. From our research she found that the musical theatre courses where the standard of ballet is higher/more intense than some of the more jazz/commercial colleges was Tring Dance course (not their MT course which is a 2 year pre voc type course), Hammond & Laine (Betty Laine likes ballet dancers).
  9. It means that she is of the required standard/suitable for RBS training but that they have too many suitable children and so she has been placed on a (usually short) waiting list to see if anyone drops out or declines their place. Being able to attend a different centre increases her chances of getting a place if its feasible but it isn't for everybody. Where I live we are half way between Birmingham and Manchester so children could feasible attend either centre.
  10. Dd lost her scarf in the first few weeks of year 7 and never replaced it. She lost her coat in Year 8 at the carol service. I got her a second hand one but she refused to wear it. They wear the tracksuit suit every day from 4pm over their Dancewear and on Saturday mornings.
  11. There is a new finance person.
  12. I know that Hammond have sent students to Elmhurst, Central, ENBS etc in recent years but the numbers involved are so tiny with cohorts of between 20-30 children that unless a students chooses to go "public" or you know the students involved it is almost impossible to collect these statistics. I imagine it is the same at most schools especially with GDPR.
  13. Kate Simmons should probably be on the list although they have no funding. Also the new King's one.
  14. Hammond doesn't have boarding for Post 16 (except for a very tiny number of students who are allowed to stay in the new boarding house, often as helpers). It is also a Dance course rather than a ballet course (but then again I think Tring's is too.)
  15. The school broke up for Easter today but there is usually someone in the office but it might be reduced hours.
  16. There is also the possibility of the odd space being available because someone who is currently a Year 7/8 MA has been offered a full time place somewhere.
  17. Each school gets given a set amount of awards and I would imagine this is reviewed every so often (I know that DaDa funding is awarded every 3 years but actual amounts per school reviewed annually). So Elmhurst could, space permitting admit more students than they have awards but possibly choose not to.
  18. Some areas are having the Easter Holidays as the first two weeks of April regardless of when Easter falls and then just having Easter weekend off. Hence I've got dd and dh who break up on Friday (29th March) and ds who doesn't break up until 12th April.
  19. Peanut, I've always managed to iron on both tights and leotards I just use a muslin cloth in between the iron and the label.
  20. Cant say that we’ve been quite so lucky and she only occasionally boarded!
  21. I’ve used white iron on transfers from Easy2name but they don’t last that long.
  22. At Hammond there is 2:5 hours compulsory classes on Saturday mornings too.
  23. Dd certainly had the odd private lesson and did one off workshops but it was always during exeat weekends or half terms.
  24. I have no experience at White Lodge but it would be very difficult for children at other schools to disappear off to weekly or fortnightly associates without attracting attention unless they were held on a Saturday afternoon/Sunday and they had local parents to take them.
