  1. Past hour
  2. There are an awful lot of Carmens on at the moment, Amelia - which one is it you're looking for?
  3. Well, in that case perhaps I'm not surprised - there would be copyright considerations in that case, I suppose. (And I'm pretty sure it is).
  4. Yes, it's a real shame he's out of action for the next ... however long
  5. Today
  6. I much prefer the earlier Northern Ballet version from 1990. I seem to remember the set from the second act seeming to step straight out of a Romantic painting; very Casper David Friedrich and so atmospheric. I remember it especially as I saw the Kirov ballet (as they were then) perform it in Manchester a few months later. It was the first time I saw the Kirov and I thought Northern Ballets production was far better.
  7. Yes, just sewing into the lining. It’s impossible with these shoes! She doesn’t go through them that quickly, usually 4 months wear, I’d definitely go through to the satin if I was doing it every week! LOVE your forum name! Very appropriate! 😂
  8. Thank you, Buddy. Shelby Mann is indeed lyrical, and very impressive for 11. I see that she is now in the corps of NYCB. After I had watched her excerpt I watched the beginning of the clip and Jacques gives some very interesting information about Balanchine . Jacques is, as ever, irrepressible, and it's so lovely to see him, he was such an important dancer to the evolution of City Ballet, I am so glad I was able to see him dance before he retired. And, of course, after retiring he contributed a lot to dance education and opportunities for less privileged people, indeed in his talk he explains how dance helped him as a boy to avoid the risk of street crime and violence.
  9. @DanceMamma - Do you mean that you're only sewing the ribbon into the lining of the shoe? My daughter goes through a pair a week and I've always gone straight through to the satin.
  10. I regret letting her get them now! We’ll be going back to Bloch! I’ve got a very talented friend doing them for her. Fingers crossed she manages it!
  11. WANTED tickets for "CARMEN", Sunday 5 May, 3 p.m. At least 1 ticket is needed but 2 will be better! Preferably good tickets.
  12. Everyone doesn’t get in, a close friend of ours was not offered a place in year 7 some years ago. We have no personal experience from the school, but just wanted to add this to the discussion. I won’t repeat what I’ve heard about the school as second hand info isn’t helpful to anyone but as with any school, definitely do your due diligence before committing
  13. It’s so hard isn’t it! Have you heard anything from the support fund?
  14. We have also been offered a waitlist place today week 5 girls 14/15 so there is definitely movement this week 😃
  15. They are really really tough to sew. I feel your pain. I’ve just done 3 pairs this last month. The best thing is to get a very sharp thin needle. I usually like using curved needles but they just don’t cut it with capezio.
  16. Hello! My DS was offered a wait list spot for week 3-4 boys 14-15 training, but we will have to decline because he accepted a spot at School of American Ballet. I wanted to share so people can get information that there is movement on the wait list. Good luck everyone!
  17. My daughter was at Tring. She chose to leave since she no longer wished to dance professionally, but two years later she still says she sometimes wishes she was back there It is a great school: the dance training, academics and pastoral care (the three key factors for us) were all excellent. Based on what I had read elsewhere about the other ‘big’ schools in relation to these three things it was the only vocational option we were prepared to consider for her. Getting a career in dance is nigh impossible (see other threads) so good academics and strong mental health are crucial. I believe we were justified in our choice. People are often seduced by the ‘name’, as may be the case with the MDA awards, but a bit of digging can easily reveal much more about what’s important to you.
  18. Did they put a trigger warning on the production?
  19. Hi all, my DD usually wears Bloch pointe shoes with a canvas type lining which are easy to sew ribbons onto. She’s recently switched to capezio pointe shoes which have faux suede type lining. They’re really tricky to sew through. Does anyone have any tips or experience of sewing ribbons into these shoes? I feel defeated and like I might just have to sew through to the satin! Any help???
  20. Yes, James Hay is a wonderful Ashton dancer and that is because he has Cecchetti training IMO. I hope they will both be back on stage at the beginning of next season.
  21. I have 2 tickets for 7 May in SCS at £14 each that I can no longer use. D10 and 11. PM me if interested. Thanks Chris
