  1. Past hour
  2. Everyone doesn’t get in, a close friend of ours was not offered a place in year 7 some years ago. We have no personal experience from the school, but just wanted to add this to the discussion. I won’t repeat what I’ve heard about the school as second hand info isn’t helpful to anyone but as with any school, definitely do your due diligence before committing
  3. It’s so hard isn’t it! Have you heard anything from the support fund?
  4. Today
  5. We have also been offered a waitlist place today week 5 girls 14/15 so there is definitely movement this week 😃
  6. They are really really tough to sew. I feel your pain. I’ve just done 3 pairs this last month. The best thing is to get a very sharp thin needle. I usually like using curved needles but they just don’t cut it with capezio.
  7. Hello! My DS was offered a wait list spot for week 3-4 boys 14-15 training, but we will have to decline because he accepted a spot at School of American Ballet. I wanted to share so people can get information that there is movement on the wait list. Good luck everyone!
  8. My daughter was at Tring. She chose to leave since she no longer wished to dance professionally, but two years later she still says she sometimes wishes she was back there It is a great school: the dance training, academics and pastoral care (the three key factors for us) were all excellent. Based on what I had read elsewhere about the other ‘big’ schools in relation to these three things it was the only vocational option we were prepared to consider for her. Getting a career in dance is nigh impossible (see other threads) so good academics and strong mental health are crucial. I believe we were justified in our choice. People are often seduced by the ‘name’, as may be the case with the MDA awards, but a bit of digging can easily reveal much more about what’s important to you.
  9. Did they put a trigger warning on the production?
  10. Hi all, my DD usually wears Bloch pointe shoes with a canvas type lining which are easy to sew ribbons onto. She’s recently switched to capezio pointe shoes which have faux suede type lining. They’re really tricky to sew through. Does anyone have any tips or experience of sewing ribbons into these shoes? I feel defeated and like I might just have to sew through to the satin! Any help???
  11. Yes, James Hay is a wonderful Ashton dancer and that is because he has Cecchetti training IMO. I hope they will both be back on stage at the beginning of next season.
  12. I have 2 tickets for 7 May in SCS at £14 each that I can no longer use. D10 and 11. PM me if interested. Thanks Chris
  13. Yes and yes. But for the first night she was not placed centre stage (which had accidentally created the impression at the dress that she was being honoured on an equal footing with the star of the show).
  14. The bloodstains are usually because she's just committed murder. The director has imposed her own story line onto the plot.
  15. This is rather confusing to read. I was able to take curtain call photos on Wednesday without being stopped, as was the woman sat next to me (I was using a compact camera, she was using a phone), and as I was sat front row stalls I was hardly inconspicuous. Then I posted the same photos on Twitter yesterday that I'd posted on here tagging in BRB & they have "liked" my posts.
  16. It’s genuinely personal choice My DD had Tring as first choice, but by finals just didn’t get the vibe she wanted from it during auditions. Whereas she walked into her current school and loved it. She was also 14yrs old so knew what she wanted, and had already been to a normal secondary. MDS is also only a percentage, maybe that percentage wasn’t enough. It’s hard to find out finance details before you are offered it. I wouldn’t worry, just go for what feels best
  17. Was it the same conductor and did Katherine Baker, principal flute, take a curtain call bow - she did at the General Rehearsal?
  18. Famous Five, Secret Seven, Mallory Towers, John Buchan books, Rider Haggard books (both as a teenager), the Mary Elwyn Patchett Brumby books, any number of books about horses (including one called Janet Must Ride which I used to leave lying around). Lots of other authors I can't even remember. Chatting to a cousin I hadn't seen for over 30 years recently he said to me that what he most remembered was me having my nose always stuck in a book!
  19. Snap for Famous Five, Narnia, Malory Towers and St Clare’s plus E. Nesbit books. Most of my books came from school and local libraries. My parents did encourage us both to read.
  20. It may be a BRB thing. The ushers at the Hippodrome were jumping on anyone with a phone let alone a camera at the curtain calls for Cesar's penultimate performance.
  21. It was perfect going, set off on time coming home but due to an issue near Huddersfield we were 20 minutes late getting in. It was well worth the hassle though!
  22. Indeed...let's hope you have a better experience tonight. I'm in the second circle tonight but may be right next to a side exit so may have grief myself. I had problems at the La Strada performance once a female usher spotted my regular camera (I was in the Stalls Side Gallery and she said I'm not allowed to use that type of camera, I then proceeded to use my phone which she was fine with although I'd taken the pics I wanted to take already) Maybe it's a BRB thing as the ushers were quick to stop me trying to take a pic at La Fille at the Bristol Hippodrome with my phone...I was taking pics of the set to see if it was the same as the RB's.
