  1. Never! Afraid Craig Rant-Horwood would be my preferred departee.
  2. I think she will do just fine. I think it would be good to bring back Arlene as well - even it up a bit - why only 1 lady?
  3. All the above plus: Lack of courtesy on the road and off it ie, people who don't thank me when I stop at crossings. Drivers who don't stop when there is an obstruction on their side of the road and force me to stop - conversely when I have stopped because of an obstruction on my side they don't thank me - I try to always thank them. People who ignore me when I've held a door open for them, moved out of their mad progression down the aisle or street - a thank you, or a smile or knowledge of my existence doesn't hurt does it? But excepting the staff doing other people's shopping because non-DD did that and those trolleys are extremely heavy and unwealdy. She did her best to keep out of peoples way and help them find what they were looking for but people still threw four letter words at her - not allowed to complain as the customer is always right!
  4. now what to do I've finished it
  5. Can't get the last 3 - so frustrating!!
  6. I've also signed in by fb. You're better than me too Regattah and yes some of the puns are really terrible!
  7. If a class is found I would love to attend. I still have a place on my skull which hurts after I fell over in the snow. My fault for not getting dropped off on my drive which had been cleared! As I get older I find I am less agile and could do with some advice. Aurora I fell down the stairs on a bus when I was 12 (mad bus driver's fault) and bent my coccyx - years of not being able to sit still in cinemas etc. It's got better over the years (more padding!) but it was a problem for a very long time.
  8. Agree with Janet - rather addictive and I too have got into the draw for a Kindfle Fire. Hope something similar is done - so clever
  9. DD just started wearing the new Grischko Nova which she absoltuely loves - will let you know how long these last in relation to how much pointe she is doing
  10. My non DD went to Exeter and I remember noticing there were ballet classes somewhere. Didn't take much notice as not applicable to her. Has your DD considered being able to teach dance as well as being a primary school teacher. Many private schools have ballet on the curriculum. Perhaps an extra "subject" on the CV would be helpful. I noticed an article somewhere yesterday that was saying that after the interest the Olympics had generated in sport that perhaps there should be a way of getting more dance into schools - sorry not a very concise synopsis. At my Junior school (many, many years ago) we had a Scottish gentlelman who took the final year. He taught us Scottish dancing and I've never really forgotten it. Lots of fun and everyone can join in. I'm really for dance in schools - don't really care what form it takes, even if it's only a substitute for when a games or PE lesson has to be rained off or just a couple of lessons once a term. Get them all dancing!!
  11. I have seen Northern Ballet on numerous occasions and the State Russian Ballet of Siberia (think I've remembed the name!) at Milton Keynes theatre. Unfortunately moved to a seaside town and although we have theatres not much ballet.
  12. Glad things are going ok for you. We met briefly at Ballet Cymru - my DD shared with you. I'll let her know how you're doing. She's finished her first week and is loving it
  13. Hope it works out for you. Couldn't get DD to move at one time and she wasted 18 months not learning anything. I really wish that there was some sort of Ofstead for ballet schools - and wish I'd found this site at that time as well!
  14. We are lucky enough to live 40 minutes drive from Linda in Brighton. She is superb and I highly recommend her. We too have an immaculate pair of Bloch shoes - a 3.5 C! I suggested DD turned them into soft pointes but she prefers the Grischko one's!
  15. DD dropped off - we stayed for a weeks holiday up there (not been away for 2 years!!) and were around in case of emergency. Now we're back we keep in contact by Twitter and she's having a blast. Tomorrow will be the test for me as i always took her to school but she's fine Hope everyone else's dd and ds are settling in ok.
  16. DD also off this Friday - 9.1/2 hour drive. Not packed yet as I keep putting it off!! I have always done the dance routine so as others have pointed out, my life will change the most. Just so grateful that she is doing what she wants - I would rather miss her than have her at home not having achieved what she wanted to do. When non-DD went to Uni I was fine dropping her off the very first time, but every time she came home it got worse and worse letting her go again - just as others have stated. I think the distance is the worst part of it for me and I expect I will be spending a lot of time on this forum. Good luck to everyone

    Musicals.

Ian Gillan and Ted Neeley - the debate goes on forever on YouTube - one minute I think Ian, the next Ted! I did find on YouTube a wonderful rendition of Gethsemene by the late Carl Anderson. A very different concept to Neely and Gillan but ohh it sent shivers down my spine - sadly this beautiful rendition has been removed from his web site and YouTube.

    Musicals.

Have only seen "We will Rock You" once but would definitlly go again. "Cats" was beautiful - wish they'd revive it. "Fame" was absolutely dire and I would not recommend it. "Return to the Forbidden Planet" was a ball - would go again. Thoroughly enjoyed "Godspell." "My Fair Lady" I remember as being spectacular but then I was only 8!. "Les Mis" was a school production (non DD) but expertly done, and I cried - I knew nothing about the story and I will definitely go and see it on the West End - armed with copius amounts of tissues. Wish List: Les Mis Lion King Wicked Rocky Horror Show
  19. Wikipaedia my user name and you will see another beautiful moth.
  20. I was disappointed in the choice of music. Where were the vocal talents of Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey, Adele, Catherine Jenkins and many, many others? Heavy metal originators Black Sabbath, Deep Purple etc, etc - not a note. A tiny bit of Led Zeppelin in the Opening Ceremony. Can't deny that the Floyd were well covered. And where oh where was anything from Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice? Where would we be without their music and lyrics? The loop of music during the atheletes entry could have included more variation instead of repeating. We seemed to rely rather heavily on people who are unfortunately no longer with us and on the legacy of the Beatles. Having said that Eric Idle was perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed the remaining members of Queen and the Who - never ever thought I would say it but the Spice Girls were great.
  21. DD attended Russian ballet lesson on a Sunday at Danceworks, so we think teacher was Zina. Only problem was DD doesn't understand Russian but teacher suddenly realised DD was English and used English a well so no problem. Thoroughly enjoyed the lesson and hopes to go back again. Has also attended Ian's lessons at Pineapple on a Wedensday and found him excellent.
  22. DD just returned from their Summer School - had a fantastic time
  23. The set of Narnia books which I threw out on moving and have to replace. Tigana, A Song for Arbonne, - Guy Gavriell Kay Legend - David Gemmell (nothing to do with the film of the same name with David Bowie in it and a far better story) The Hobbit and ther Lord of the Rings Trilogy The Thomas Covenent Chronicles - Stephen Donaldson - except for the latest as I'm still struggling with it The Mirror of her Dreams and A Man came Riding Through - Stephen Donaldson I could go on as I am always re-reading my books
  24. Finished Under Heaven. Loved the film but never read the book so found non-dd'c copy of Goodnight Mister Tom. A few differences from the film and this may be the only case where I prefer the film but enjoying it much the same. Keep hearing John Thaw's voice all the time I'm reading it - he was so magnificant in this role.
