  1. C S Lewis, in The Silver Chair, said something about the giants/gods having a bowling match being the noise for thunder? Can't quite remember it all, but I tried to explain this to my children when they were very young, it seemed to work
  2. It has a label inside that states 26 inches - maybe the waist size? It is too short for my DD who is nearly 5'4" it used to be about 3 or 4 inches down her thighs. I've already agreed to send it to someone else and it's in a jiffy bag ready to go. I shall be going through some of her old costumes for shows etc and if I can suss out how to put photos on here I shall be making some room in the wardrobe. Some of the items have been worn about 5 times (5 shows over a week-end). Just need to be ruthless and make some space!!
  3. Spiders - especially when they are in the car! We had to stop in a lay-by to, I am afraid to so say, send one to the spider web in the sky. Non-DD did the deed, but the body fell into the air vent. I switched this on and the body shot into the foot well. Whilst extracitng this I managed to attach myself to a hedge of sticky buds - some would call it Karma!
  4. Sorry not been on this forum for a while - is anybody still stuck on anything? Must admit I finished it a while ago so may not be able to remember them all
  5. 26" wrap-over black skirt. 100% polyester but has feel of chiffon - free. Just need to find a home for this please. Thanks
  6. My order arrived too this morning, so quick. Beautifully presented with such a personnel touch. I would have let you know earlier but non-dd had a taster session for a job so had to dash out. Have to wait until Christmas to see if it fits dd
  7. Just made an order for DD for Christmas present. Thanks for the discount, it makes such a difference
  8. We were lucky enough to have an afternoon audition and went by train. There are plenty of taxis around New Street Station. Not sure of the distance you are travelling and what time the audition is. Good Luck to your DD, it's a lovely day and I hope she enjoys it
  9. Unfortunately my phone is about 4 years old, due for upgrade around Christmas, so if I'm lucky enough to get a better phone i'll try that one out - thanks
  10. Cinemas! Normally very load and very cold. Thursday night still cold but the sound was at the level I would like it to be every time I visit .... except for this particular perfomance I would have appreciated just a tad louder. Led Zeppelin do sound better with the volume up just a bit
  11. Oh gosh I don't remember the dust on the side of the pub and it accepted my Red Herring so not sure what's happening now! Anyway I rarely win anything so it was just fun for me!
  12. I had trouble with the crosses - I thought all three were just one clue but there are in fact three. Also the dog next to the cake - again two clues - hope this helps
  13. On my to do list when we moved down here was Battle Abbey (done), Bodiam Castle (done) and Canterbury Cathedral yet to be done. I enjoy cathedrals but have not visited quite as many as others but have done Exeter a lot as my grandparents lived close, Lincoln, Truro, Notre Dame was not an enjoyable experience but I was lucky enough to visit York Minster before the fire. Quite keen on churchs too. There is an amazing church on the beach at Camaret sur Mer and a lovely church in La Rochelle. Kenilworth, Warwick, Goodrich and Corfe Castles were great favourites as a child
  14. Janet you took me back. During school holidays I would have a few days in Birmingham. Sometimes I got up early and went in with my dad who worked there, sometimes caught the train. I would always go to the Art Museum. wonder around, have lunch, then shopping and then cadge a lift back with dad. Happy days. Is anyone esle going to the V&A to see the Hollywood Collection? Trip planned with non-dd soon, really looking forward to it. I love National Trust etc and used to live near to Waddesden Manor. If you have a lot of time to kill at Tring then you could squeeze a visit in here, so worth it. Berkhamstead also close to Tring and worth a vist. Lovely little town with ruins of a castle. I have a thing for castles as well but find getting up the towers a bit of a struggle these days!
  15. No it wasn't a fair one at all a couple of the stations weren't on the Underground either but it was still very good fun!
  16. It's a trick. DD got it bless her
  17. I like a track called In The House – In A Heartbeat, Liverpool composer John Murphy It's from from 28 Days Later and is also music for the Strongbow Pear Advert which is where I heard it and I had to google it. I would like to be able to know the name of the artist and title of the piece of music/song during television programmes. At least at the end of a film there are the credits. Usually I am desperately trying to read as the credits roll up at an incredibly fast speed. It is possible to google films but I have not found it possible to track down (sorry about the pun) songs/music in television programmes. If there is a way, please let me know.
  18. Ahh, see I still don't know where I live even after 2 years!! Live in South East so presumed rail was the same and you are correct it is Southern and it is a dreadful service. They had 2 trains at 1 platform in Victoria and we got so confused as to where one train ended and the other started that we once again got in the wrong part of the train - at least we were in the right train. It's impossible to then walk through the carriages as it's always jam packed so once again had to leg it at Haywards Heath!!
  19. In a way I'm sorry I have finished it because I really enjoyed it. If anyone hears of anything else like this please let me know. I did cheat a bit - googled list of stations! DD found a discussion thread somewhere on the net and it seems that some people had completed it in a couple of hours!! Although very little was given away Took me a few days - found I needed to leave it and then go back.
  20. Alison - South Eastern Trains aka can of sardines! Just mastered getting in the correct part of the train so I don't have to "leg it" at Haywards Heath when the train splits
  21. DD and non-DD both want a dog - not sure what the cats would say and as DD away most of the time and non-DD job hunting then it's down to me to walk it and much as I need the exercise (I really need the exercise) I need to get a job as well to pay for both of the D's and the cats as well as they cost a fortune too! Another to add to the list - why does the cat's arthritis medication come in a size of capsule suitable for a horse! I have to break it open and mix the powder with fish paste to administer to the cat and this then interferes with her diet. The wet diet cat food was so expensive I had to swap to the fish past and the powder just doesn't mix with the dry cat food. Have these people ever tried to give a cat a tablet!!
  22. There used to be another dance programme where members of the publice got the chance to win a contract (not So you think you can Dance) - Wayne Sleep was a judge - can't remember name of the programme or the other judges. Just remember Wayne being rather good. Perhaps we could have alternating judges. Sorry I just got annoyed with CR-H felt his rant went on a bit long. It may have been an illegal lift (I wouldn't know) but the criticism took up a lot of time and consequently not every judge could comment on the dances. Anyway looking forward to next week - should be good - this and Merlin make my Saturdays!!
  23. There is, of course, the ultimate deterrent to cats in your garden - have a cat of your own!! Understand that not everyone's a cat person - you either love them or hate them - theres no middle road with them. I love most of furry four legged friends except for rats - it's the tail and mink - vicious creatures.
  24. AnneMarriott - non-DD also gets irritated when they gather in flocks and don't get her started on the cages full of produce - she used to complain because her co-workers didn't empty them quickly enough and then remove them from the floor. She was very proud of the aisle she was responsible for (dotcom used to finsh at 14.00) - she went down it the other day having left some months ago and was upset to see it as such a mess! Janet - I want to shop in your Tesco's please - and I have a similar problem with the large trolley. Couldn't they make the bottom just a bit closer! To those bothered by cats in their garden - they don't like the smell of oranges so you could surround the guinea pig cage with orange peel - sorry I have cats but lucky for my neighbours the one point blank refuses to do her business in the garden so lucky me gets to empty the dirt tray. Shes a bit old and arthritic so I try not to get too put out by it. You can also buy pellets that are supposed to keep them off your garden
