  1. John's family, and the forum moderators, are delighted to share with you this very witty little ditty that John wrote when we were transitioning from ballet.co.uk to balletcoforum. Having done the daily links for a long time, he thought he was finally getting rid of them for good. Be careful what you wish for, dear John! With thanks to Belinda Taylor, who shared this with us, and the Mallinson family, for agreeing to share it with all of you. The final few words are very poignant. In memoriam Today’s Links January 2012 - last day ever tomorrow and it falls to me. I think I have to finish it off with a bit of a flourish so am thinking of concluding with a spoof (of a spoof). Will anyone get it? Is it at all amusing? It isn’t finished. So. Farewell Then Balletco Today’s Links. No more aubades Trawling The Patriot Ledger And Gay City News. No more of Clement's crisps Before breakfast. No more Macaulay, Mackrell. You are now Toast. Flitter Away, Twitter. Stir crazy Or demob happy That's me. No crocodile tears. I will Sleep in Each morning. You're on your own. Now. With apologies to Private Eye and E.J. Thribb, aged 17½

    Misplaced ear worms

I WISH I had that ear worm!! Mine are usually ad jingles!!
  3. From the short clips, I agree with Anna above. Whilst it's great to see Polunin dancing in a more classical mode (although the choreography seemingly can't decide what exactly it is) I think he would really improve with daily class and perhaps also if he'd had a few more performances. Alina is beautiful as ever. I loved the set and the costumes (although perhaps another couple of stitches on the front of Polunin's shirt wouldn't go amiss; I really don't want my dreams of Romeo to be marred by Putin's face suddenly appearing), and as Anna said I would love to see the whole. If they bring it to London, I will.
  4. The photos posted by Kobborg on Instagram look fabulous. I can’t wait to hear about it! It doesn’t seem like any British critics made the trip to fair Verona so I will look for some Italian ones.
  5. Many thanks for these interesting items, Angela. I am fascinated to see what will happen at Wuppertal!
  6. Created by ToThePointe in support of the little Prince!
  7. Clearly cobbled together by a staffer.
  8. Well she has certainly got the backlash she deserved. I often don’t agree with public shaming, but in this case a grown woman publicly laughing and sniggering at a little boy for doing what he loves deserves all she gets. Add to that the perpetuation of stereotypes to an audience of millions and for me, she is fair game. As I have said many times, I am all for free speech, but she wasn’t expressing an opinion...she was sniggering (as was her audience) at a defenceless little boy. Shame on her.
  9. A friend of mine received this offer. She said that when you go into it, there are about two tickets with 45% off. Then, when you look at the rest of the ticket prices, they are more expensive than if you buy direct from Sadler's Wells, so be aware!
  10. I will never forget those incredible performances in London. It makes me so happy whenever I think about them.
  11. Anyone can buy the equipment, but not all of them can have the eye and soul to capture a beautiful photo. For me, Rachel Hollings does. That can’t be taught.
  12. What a great idea TTP! The result is a wonderful collaboration with truly gorgeous photos showing the whole range of company activity; not only the dancers but the set designers, lighting people, costume designers, etc. Fascinating, and so interesting to read Miss Hollings' words. Thanks so much for this.
  13. Her Juliet at the RB two or three years ago was stunning. She blew me away with her interpretation, which was different from any I had seen before. I am getting goosebumps just thinking about it now.
  14. Sound of Music, West Side Story, South Sapific (as my daughter used to say when she was little!), Singing in the Rain and Carousel are my faves.
  15. Ohhhh what a beautiful morning! Thanks for that review, Mandy. I must say that Oklahoma is my least favourite of all the great musicals, despite there being two or three wonderful songs in it.
  16. I believe they weren't given a proper farewell because they both just walked off with no notice; all of a sudden their last Mayerling was announced as their final performance with the RB. I remember having to scramble to buy a ticket and all I could get was lower slips standing so could only see half the stage. A real disappointment after I had been watching them since 2003. They were and are one of my all-time favourite dance pairings and I am sorry it all ended the way it did. There are all kinds of rumours and reasons that they walked off like they did, but I am sure that if they had given notice of their departure and it had been on friendly terms they would have got a proper farewell. I also read Johan's post on Facebook at the time, and he was indeed hurt, but I also remember someone replying to his post "well what do you expect if you both just walk off and leave the company and your audience in the lurch, with no notice?" So there are two sides to every story....
  17. Me too....and the muted farewell she got compared to the hullabaloo for Darcey made me sad.
  18. Belinda Hatley - RB. Sadly her career was overshadowed by that of Darcey Bussell, but for me she was a much more complete dancer. The best principal that never was.
  19. That's fine if you can afford it, but if you have to plan a trip and pay for train and accommodation and it's only affordable as a treat, or once a booking period, then knowing in advance who is scheduled to dance is very helpful!
  20. I was really hoping that BRB's ridiculous casting announcement policy would change under new management. Maybe when Carlos takes over it will. Having been in the RB for so many years where casting is announced months in advance, I hope he will have an understanding of how important this is to people paying their hard-earned money for tickets, travel and accommodation. I have often found that by the time casting is announced, the train fares and hotels are a lot more expensive because they are being booked so much closer to the date of travel. For those of us who work full time, we also have to organise time off if the programme we want to see is during the week. I, and many others I know, would make the trip more often if we had more time to plan, save and pay.
