  1. Lucky you Richard. Let us know what it's like and who the RB dancers are. Thanks for putting up a separate thread as well. I wasn't sure but I think you're right as it is an actual performance with audience and there aren't too many of those at the moment!
  2. I just added details of 3 live performances by artists including 4 RB dancers at Rye in East Sussex, Sat 26-Sun 27 Sept. Some ticket prices rather expensive and in tables for two but still... Also seen the Mousetrap is re-opening in London on Oct 23rd back at St Martins Theatre. https://uk.the-mousetrap.co.uk/ On the opening page it says 'Proud to re-open the west End' so perhaps there are hopes for other venues. It can't come soon enough for me though with all the Covid problems returning I hope it won't have to close again.
  3. Sorry I misread your posting Jeanette (I seem to be getting scattier by the day!) but thrilled there may still be a chance of some (hopefully) rare Ashton. I'm not bothered what it is. Anything will be gratefully received! Joan
  4. Many thanks for this Jeanette. Great to have their programme confirmed though I have to say I prefer Bruce's version! Where is the Ashton?! For a Company who specialises in Ashton I'm very disappointed he doesn't even get a short ballet and I was so looking forward to seeing his Romeo and Juliet again. I'll just have to go back to the dvds, a bit of a comedown when I thought I was going to see something new.
  5. Dave, do you know what the Royal Ballet Mixed Bill is, please, that you mention in the Upcoming Events on Oct 9th? I can't find it on their website though all the other streamed and cinema events are there.
  6. Thanks for this, Jeanette. I did register with Sarasota but good to know details/prices should be available soon. I hope they do at least some of what was mentioned earlier but any Ashton will be good!! I know you can watch dvds but to see something different would be fabulous and slightly compensate for lack of The Real Thing!!! I'm on my computer now and can copy Bruce's post exactly. It sounds definite and Bruce certainly mentions it as a digital autumn season. Sarasota Ballet have announced a true 'Heritage' programme for their upcoming Autumn digital season and for which you can buy tickets to watch. I have a feeling that many hereabouts may want to do so as it features some true Ashton gems that we don't oft get to see hereabouts nowadays. PURITY IN MOTION (Program 1) 23 – 25 October 2020 FSU Center for the Performing Arts George Balanchine's Donizetti Variations Ricardo Graziano's Amorosa Paul Taylor's Company B BEYOND EXPRESSION (Program 2) 20 – 21 November 2020 Sarasota Opera House Sir Frederick Ashton's Birthday Offering Sir Frederick Ashton's Dante Sonata Sir David Bintley's The Spider's Feast ROMEO & JULIET (Program 3) 18 – 19 December 2020 Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall Sir Frederick Ashton's Romeo & Juliet Composed by Sergei Prokofiev
  7. Bruce Wall published details of the new digital season in August under Sarasota ballet tag, Jeanette. As I'm using my phone I don't know how to copy details but there seems to be three programmes. 23-25 Oct Purity in Motion which includes Balanchine and Paul Taylor 20-21Nov Beyond Expression This programme does contain some Ashton including Birthday Offering and Dante Sonata and also David Bintleys Spiders feast. 18-19 Dec Ashtons Romeo and juliet I too have signed up for information and am eagerly looking forward to these programmes and the chance to see rarely performed Ashton works. Why can't the RB honour their founder choreographer in this way? Bit of a shock if Washington Ballet aren't thinking of live performances until next May. How many companies will survive if they are laid off until then? Its very sad.
  8. Lovely it's launching its Freeview schedule with two of my favourite ballets and casting. However, I'm afraid most opera and ballet on SkyArts is shown about 6am so always check the early part of the schedule. The prime evening slots tend to go to more pop music type programmes. I think advert breaks take place at a natural break in the programme. It certainly won't interrupt the dancing, though with this programme I'm not sure if there will be just the one break between ballets or an additional break at the end of the first act of Two Pigeons.
  9. Me too! Sounds a wonderful evening when even the weather behaved. Well done to Meaghan and everyone who took part. Also if someone could give their thoughts on the livestream opera from the ROH I'd be interested. I'm not purchasing it myself (waiting for the ballet!) but would be interested in how it was staged, were there proper costumes etc. Also, if anyone is lucky enough to see Vadim's Swan Lake in Latvia (?) I'd love to know how that went.
  10. The ballets and opera being shown in this initiative are the ones being shown at the drive in cinemas so presumably a deal has already been struck about rights etc and can easily be extended to London. Seems a good idea and a boost for local cafes as well. I always used to like the Covent Garden screenings, more intimate than Trafalgar Square, though the cobbles are terrible to sit on! I used to bring a cushion and sit at the back and use the crash barriers as a back rest.
  11. This is the message I got when I just tried to purchase a ticket. Technical error (error 500) Sorry, we are currently experiencing a few technical issues. Please refresh your browser or try again shortly.
  12. The article by the magazine/journal Rhinegold in today's links answers one of my questions about the streamed performances; they will be kept up for a month so plenty of opportunity to revisit them for your money. Bit surprised other more mainstream newspapers haven't picked up on them yet. Perhaps tomorrow.
  13. At the moment the weather for Dorchester is saying a mixture of light cloud and sun with a temperature of about 18 or 19 degrees so fingers crossed it's accurate.
  14. Yes Valentino did rather monopolise the fed up feeling in Men at the Barre but there was just a minute with Erico saying how the corps de ballet 'weren't trusted' (I think that was his expression) to do anything elaborate at curtain calls apart from possibly move an arm. It was only a fleeting moment but it registered with me as he didn't sound very happy.
  15. I too am very disappointed in the cavalier way Kevin O'Hare referred almost in passing to Erico Montes leaving after all his years contributing to the excellence of the RB. Ballet companies aren't only about the big names, they depend just as much on the more unsung heroes such as Erico for their high performance standard. Though I don't attend the RB nearly as often as I'd like I always look out for Erico and thought he gave every part his all, no matter how small it was. I always rather compared him with Romany Padjak, both senior dancers with the RB in terms of longevity and experience but both rather overlooked in the promotion stakes. When Romany was recently promoted and started doing solo roles I was so pleased for her, and also hoped that Erico would be similarly recognised (perhaps at the end of this season) but unfortunately not. He didn't sound very happy about things in Men at the Barre but, like Dawnstar, I hoped he would start doing character roles after his excellent inn keeper in Coppelia but sadly not to be. I hope he has great success and enjoyment in his new career. His performances always gave me so much pleasure.
  16. Anything involving RB dancers actually dancing again is brilliant. Just wish it was somewhere more accessible for us northerners. Perhaps they could film it and do pay per view again? Still great news though. Very encouraging.
  17. My favourites are :- 1. Merry Widow with Nunez. Teatro Colon. 2. Manon with Muntagirov. Japanese Ballet and of course his RB Dance of the Blessed Spirits. 3. La Sylphide. ENB. 4. RBME .Stuttgart Ballet 5. Rosalinde. Estonia Ballet 6. San Francisco Ballet gala. 7. Pennefather Films. The Sun is God. (I don't know if this is a lockdown film but I saw it in lockdown and thought it terrific.) 8. Ballo Della Regina. Royal Danish Ballet. 9. La Bayadere with Osipova/Lantratov. Perm Ballet. 10. Scotch Symphony. American Ballet School.
  18. Does anyone know when the tickets for the streamed Sarasota programme will go on sale or about how much they will cost? Sounds a great programme with some really different items in there.
  19. Thanks to Janite's SkyArts link I can say they are showing Northern Ballet's Puss in Boots on CBeebies Saturday 15 August at 9.30am and also Australian ballet's Coppelia Sunday 16th August at 10am. Coupled with the Australian Ballet Merry Widow mentioned above (which is the new version shown at the cinema last autumn) they are showing some ballet at last. Long may it continue!
  20. Apparently ballet Arizona are having problems with uploading La Sylphide. They only have 48.31 minutes and it ends abruptly. There is a note to say they are trying to fix it, hopefully by today, but it's still saying 48.31 minutes. I assume as long as it says 48.31 minutes it is still waiting to be fixed and when it's fixed it will say it lasts approximately an hour.
  21. Just watched the Jacob's Pillow Danish gala again as it still seems to be here. Didn't really think there was anything untoward with James' shirt in la Sylphide. I was wondering if I was going to be distracted but wasn't really. I enjoyed the piece as I did all the Bournonville though could have done without the Giselle pas de deux. I know it fitted stylistically but would have preferred more Bournonville. This sort of concert always makes me nostalgic for the visit by them I attended at the Peacock theatre a few years ago which was terrific. I wish Danish Ballet would visit us more often especially to do Bournonville as we see so little Bournonville now. I think Hubbe did update A Folk Tale and it was streamed earlier this year and is still there. People I know who have seen both versions say they prefer the earlier, more traditional version. I'm going to donate both to Jacob's Pillow and Danish Ballet as Jacob's Pillow offered to share the donations with Danish Ballet but Hubbe refused and said they could keep all of them which I think was very generous of him.
  22. Sorry Alison my husband's been working on the computer most of the time and my previous post was sent on my phone. I don't know how to do links from my phone but as he's just left the computer I'll give it a go. It's an Anna Marie Holmes version; never a favourite with me but it's very well recorded; very clear. if you haven't already seen it do try and see Merry Widow. It's a strong contender for my lockdown performance of the year! Merry Widow I've tried to put the general link to all videos up as well but it said the link couldn't be embedded because there is no video attached. However, if you do a YouTube search of Teatro Colon you'll find them easily enough. Also a link to the Jacob's Pillow Danish Gala which is wonderful but apparently only available until 7pm tonight UK time so just a couple of hours unless it's extended.
