Having seen three stagings with two casts and wondering what others could see that I couldn’t, I can now say that The Cellist only truly made sense and had a real impact on me when I saw an Encore Screening at the cinema yesterday. For me, on stage it was muddled and the raw emotions, so evident at the Insight I attended, were diluted and obscured by the busyness of the ‘extras’ or corps. On screen however, the considered and thoughtful lighting exquisitely picks out the details that Marston wants us to see, the principals are in sharp focus throughout as one scene fades into the next and the ‘extras’ are just that, an almost blurred background to what is happening as the story unfolds. The ‘film’ version is for me perhaps what Marston had in mind as a priority when creating this as it will be seen by a much wider audience via this medium than will ever see it staged.

Interesting about the ‘Wrong Note etude’ Also I’ve now seen DAAG 4 times and the last was earlier today at an Encore screening which had many close-ups. At all of these performances the dancers were perfectly in time with the music. Perhaps it is being played the way Robbins desired for his choreography?

New ROH website - 2019 and 2022 versions
San Perregrino replied to yumiko's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
yes. the site crashed for me too and I kept getting error messages. it’s frustrating but it’s not personal. it happens frequently on other sites that have massive surges in demand. I suppose that on the ROH site today, frantic opera lovers overloaded the site trying for Fidelio tickets -

I’m also old enough to remember when there were Police close enough to intervene if there was trouble or an incident. Happy days 🙃 -
If anyone has a spare SCS ticket for Swan Lake on Sunday 22nd March, now or closer to the performance I’d love to buy it. thanks Peter

Royal Ballet Onegin 2020
San Perregrino replied to Richard LH's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
From the ROH website: Is there a dress code? There is no dress code – feel free to dress up or down. I have attended performances at which audience members of all ages & sexes have worn all manner of dress be it up, down or sideways. I see this as a visual representation of the wide appeal of ballet and opera to a hugely diverse audience. Surely that’s something to be celebrated and cherished rather than smirked at?- 410 replies

At tonight’s gala, the pas de deux from Far From the Madding Crowd due to be danced by Tyrone & Delia was substituted with a pdd from Cinderella rehearsed with only 2 days notice and danced by Tyrone & either Miki or Momoko due to Delia being injured. Hope this sheds some light on the cast changes.

RB Swan Lake - 5th March SCS Swap
San Perregrino replied to Alice-Faye's topic in Ticket Exchange & Special Offers
Alice I’ve sent you a DM thanks -
I experienced this as an outstanding and astounding evening of works by diverse choreographers curated by Carlos. This is a polished, original, immaculate, emotional programme which showcases the depth and diversity of talent in this small gem of a company. I don’t know if he’ll dance every show but my evening was rounded off by a solo from Carlos himself. I was minded to think of a fashion designer joining his models on the catwalk to celebrate his collection and bask in the adulation. Whilst all the pieces were of the highest quality, El cruce sobre el Niàgra will stay in my memory indefinitely. I found it extraordinary.
