  1. Going by our experience last year, they don't tend to publish the dates. You apply and they send you an audition date. Last year I think auditions ran over several months and it's just one audition for Rambert. My memory is a bit vague but I seem to recall that auditions ran from around feb-may.
  2. Oh, and of course not forgetting Elmhurst and Central.
  3. Don't be afraid of the schools, or contacting them ... they are just schools and last year I had cause to speak to RBS, ENBS, Tring and Rambert about various things around applications and auditions and every single one of them were extremely polite and helpful.
  4. I can highly recommend Tim Cross photography. He is an ex dancer and now dance photographer. He did dd's upper school photos last year and I know he does an audition photo package. He tends to book a studio at dance exchange to do the session and you just need to take along all the various photo requirements for all the schools you are applying to. A lot of the photos overlap and I think we just had to purchase a couple of others over and above the number of shots included in the package. He sends them to you digitally, so you can just reprint as many copies as you like. He did dd's and quite a few others I know of last year.
  5. Does the construction of the foot have a bearing on how quickly one breaks pointe shoes?
  6. Swanprincess, Central and ENB prelims this year were on a Saturday.
  7. Central and Rambert ask for dance and academic. Good luck.
  8. Tring do put on quite a lot of audition dates and whilst they don't seem to have a closing date for applications, their dates fill up very quickly ... We just made it on to the last date of upper school auditions last year with only a few spaces left.
  9. I have to agree meadowblythe ... we have totally supported dd's ballet aspirations in every way possible and made lots of sacrifices to do so over the years. In return, she knew, as she now still knows with A levels, that we expected her to stay on top of her academic studies.
  10. Jane, funny that, my dd felt exactly the same about art ... It was a massive amount of work, which she too found draining and couldn't wait to see the back of it by the end. She would spend whole weekends sometimes shut away just working on certain pieces, as so much of it had to be done in her own very limited time! In terms of year 11, although dd was already at vocational school, this term is the one to try and get ahead in with artwork, revision etc, and in my opinion next term is the really tough one, with mocks and lots of auditions. Once the distraction of auditions was over by mid march, the summer term didnt seem too intense, apart from the four weeks or so when exams were running. And don't students in mainstream school also have quite a lot of study leave? Whichever way you look at it, it's a tough year.
  11. Shygirlsmum, how petty for a dance teacher to behave in this way towards your dd! You are trying to do what is in the best interests of your child, and seemingly with integrity. I won't go into detail, but this really resonates with me! If a teacher has an issue, they should take it up with you, not take it out on your child. She will probably lose some friendships and some parents may blank you ... I know all about that ... but absolutely do what is best for your dd and move on. Good luck.

  13. Vocational schools are private/independent fee paying schools, so they are not part of the LEA secondary school application process. If you get offered a place at a vocational school after audition and you can pay, you can go. That's my understanding anyway, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
  14. This year, we had to provide a dance ref for Central and Rambert asked for dance & academic references.
  15. At 9, I shouldn't worry too much. However, my dd used to swim competitively from about 9-11 years of age alongside her ballet, but knocked it on the head as she wanted to focus on ballet and swimming was most definitely starting to bulk up her thighs, which is a complete no no for ballet. From memory, her JA teacher even commented on it. I also remember the club swim coach being quite miffed when she left and gave up swimming for ballet!
  16. It is possible to move to a current year assessment if the current year's income is going to be significantly less than last year's income. It is then reconciled at the end of the year. Once you have moved to a current year assessment on mds, you can't revert back to a previous year assessment. That's my understanding anyway.
  17. So envious ... Dd was offered Ellison this year, but we had to turn it down. Glad your son had an amazing time. Better not show dd your review!
  18. Having seen dd's timetable for 6.1, I seriously doubt there would be time to prepare for this, even if the school were to agree to participation. Quite where a vocational school would find the time and resources to prepare several students for this without major distraction/disruption is beyond me.
  19. That must be a new addition on the WL summer school form then ... to considered for the school, as I don't ever recall seeing that on any of the forms.
  20. ... And it's probably all over Facebook anyway!
  21. ... And there are many beautiful, desirable dancers at Elmhurst. Anyone who saw the summer show will tell you that.
  22. Looking for a black Grishko practice tutu, size small/34, excellent condition. Please pm me if anyone has one they would like to sell. Thanks
  23. Can't wait to see some photos. I gather from dd that this year's ss has been fantastic again.
