Last year my dd went to finals for a year 9 place and it was heavily rumored that they didn't actually take anyone for that year group!

Very best of luck to everyone out there waiting for news from Royal ... and when the letter comes, if it's good news very well done, but if it's not the news you hoped for on this occasion don't despair and don't give up. Presumably you don't get to Royal finals if you're not very talented or show great potential, so keep calm and ballet on! x

Would be happy to pay a reasonable subscription if that's what it takes to keep this site running. I love reading all the threads ... there's a great deal of knowledge and advice out there in the balletco community and I would really miss not being able to tap into that. I too just have to visit every day!

I can see it from both sides ... before my dd went to vocational school, summer schools, nyb etc were a great opportunity to meet like minded individuals, make new friends, get seen and gain access to fantastic facilities and different teachers ... it's amazing what they can pick up in a week that will stay with them. Now that dd is at vocational school all of the above still applies, but as JulieW says, two months off is a long time without any dancing and whilst it is important for growing bodies to get plenty of rest over the holidays to prevent future injury, once my dd has re-charged her batteries she starts going stir crazy over the summer if she can't dance! dd usually finds that there is a good mix/balance of vocational and non-vocational students at summer schools.

From memory, it's boys one day and girls the next.

I agree Glowlight ... and maybe if they only have a few beds available and see more candidates they want for one particular year group than another, candidates for other years may lose out? Just a guess!
