  1. My dd who is currently in year 11 at vocational school has gone through around 7 pairs of pointe shoes so far this year and I expect will probably get through another 3-4 pairs by the year end!
  2. Thanks Drdance, I did look there and they are on Easter break.
  3. Anyone know of any advanced classes taking place next week in Birmingham/Midlands area?
  4. I reckon the audition process ... Photos, entry fees, food, parking, hotel, etc has cost over £600, plus fuel on top of that!
  5. Ballet shoes, pointe shoes, tights, leotards costs in excess of £700 per year!
  6. Ditto LinMM ... I saw him too at ybss and thought much the same.
  7. I think it was the Leeds letters that landed today, as I know of someone who has a yes.

    Appraisals

PdeQ ... and despite potential and talent, let's not forget body shape and physique ... where one teacher thinks there is a flaw, another thinks there is none! Again, very subjective.
  9. I daresay it's not so much about the number of applicants they've had, but rather about the number of candidates they have decided to put through to finals ... a lot by the sounds of it!
  10. Sophika9899 ... Wow, that's a bit freaky ... We posted about the same thing at almost the same moment!
  11. Was anyone at ENBS on 25th jan ... just wondered if they gave any indication as to when results may be out?
  12. Was wondering when the prickly subject of Dadas would re-appear ... Think this thread will run forever! :/
  13. Dd really enjoyed the audition yesterday too and was very impressed with the school.
  14. I won't mention the specific school, but she auditioned again two years later and was offered a place. This time we were able to accept so she joined in year 9 and has never looked back. Again, I will never forget her reaction when she got offered the place and we assured her she could go! We are now in the thick of upper school auditions.
  15. Belljul ... Similar thing happened to us a few years ago ... Thought we had all the sums worked out so accepted a place, then when all the mds paperwork came through in June and we discovered just what is taken into account as "income" we realised it was going to be beyond us. I will never forget just how devastated dd was when we had to sit her down in early July and tell her that she would not be able to go in the September.
  16. Does anyone have any experience of the School of American Ballet summer intensive in New York? If so, would be interested to hear.
  17. Best of luck to your dd too jazzpaws ... It is indeed a nerve racking process!
  18. Jazzpaws, my dd will be in the same audition!
  19. Dd has done YBSS a couple of times and last year went for two weeks and I would echo everything good that has been said about it ... She absolutely loved everything about it and was buzzing at the end.
  20. Fancy expensive costumes not a requirement. My dd wore a very simple tutu and the girl who won wore an incredibly simple skirted leotard. It's the dancing that counts.
  21. Year 11 dcs are under an immese amount of pressure at the moment, whether at vocational school or not. Dd is at vocational school and this year is tough ... what with exams, competitions, controlled assessments, tons of homework and revision, long days and the pressure of upper school auditions. Mocks are now thankfully over. Rightly or wrongly I've told dd that the only thing that really matters over the next couple of months is to focus her mind and energy on auditions ... and to cut our any other distractions, people or otherwise. I will also be staying away from as many auditions as possible so as not to subconsciously or unwittingly add to the pressure ... Apparently dad's company is a much more calming influence where auditions are concerned! Will be glad when it's all over. x
  22. I've just remembered something that was soooo sweet when dd went for her audition for year 9 at her current vocational school ... As she checked in at reception and gave her name, the lady on reception handed her half a dozen or so good luck cards/notes from some of the girls already there. She was so touched and went into the audition buzzing ... How time flies ... We are now in the throws of upper school auditions and they are coming thick and fast. Good luck to everyone currently going for lower school auditions.
  23. I think they were all in one group and there were two overall winners, one girl one boy. From memory I think it was something like 10-4 on both days ... Sorry, my memory is a bit patchy as it was a few years ago now!
  24. Ps. Packs of 3 are a bit cheaper!
