  1. Very sorry to hear you were not able to get a ticket. Hopefully there will be some returns and other seats made available at some point - although it’s pot luck whether you’re on the website when tickets pop up. I know it’s in the cinema which is great but there’s nothing like being in the theatre. But I’m very concerned by what you say about secondary sites and the implication that Friends might purchase tickets specifically for resale. Is this a known issue? I’d have thought like the Ring there’s just tremendous demand for such performances but I have no idea if tickets were available on other sites for the recent Ring.
  2. I wonder if the release came from the marketing team or Baker Richards?
  3. You never know RobS - dancers might be very pleased to put a face to a name.
  4. I’d suggest Quintus might be very pleasantly surprised. I have sometimes gone to the Stage Door, particularly on very special occasions, and it has enhanced the whole evening for me - a fabulous opportunity to say ‘thank you’ and perhaps take a photo of a favourite dancer with her bouquets.
  5. There’s so much that’s a delight in the Ballet but the pigeons do certainly bring an added ‘coo’ factor (even if occasionally temperamental).
  6. You might like to try this: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/jan/14/queen-of-spades-review-royal-opera-house-herheim-tchaikovsky?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other And the Royal Opera House website provides information and various links: https://www.roh.org.uk/productions/the-queen-of-spades-by-stefan-herheim Some cinemas have encore screenings next Sunday.
  7. I’d vaguely got the impression that all the characters were dressed as Tchaikovsky - in the cinema on Tuesday so may go (weather permitting).
  8. I rather suspect Darlex’s tongue is very much in cheek.
  9. Friends booking starts 19 February with patrons booking before then. General booking is 3 April. Better cast details before any bookings open would I’m sure be very much appreciated.
  10. Just to confirm Richard’s own answer, Triple Bills have been marketed at different prices for a number of years. For The Dream/Symphonic Variations/Marguerite and Armand back in June 2017, the maximum price was £80. In the same period Strapless etc had a maximum price of £68 and some Triples around that time I’m pretty sure had a £50 maximum price. I thought the Royal Opera House had become much more price sensitive and now tailored charges for individual productions but in looking at summer 2017 all 8 productions had different prices. What has changed recently is moving seats from one price category to another depending on the production so in a booking period a particular seat might be charged in a number of price categories - I think that is what ‘dynamic pricing’ really means. Back in summer 2017 there was the very clear multi-coloured key for seat pricing categories.
  11. I’d be very dubious of reading much into the casting currently shown. The style looks similar to the Pite Triple Bill where accurate information came late and for a time only when signed in and it still looks distinctly odd when visiting the productions page: https://www.roh.org.uk/mixed-programmes/within-the-golden-hour-new-sidi-larbi-cherkaoui-flight-pattern I find it very hard to believe that we would have a different combination of dancers for all six performances. It strikes me the website teething problems are still ongoing.
  12. Many thanks Janet - the link http://www.ballet.org.uk/dance-for-parkinsons is well worth a visit.
  13. I do hope Gary Avis and Speaker Drosselmeyer have sufficient magic glitter for their curtain calls.
  14. Sorry to receive the ROH’s email: “Due to injury Cesar Corrales will be replaced by William Bracewell as The Creature on 5,11, 20 and 23 March.” Very much hoping Corrales is fully recovered for Romeo.
  15. Many thanks for all your explanations Richard. The disappointment in some respects is that before the changes I thought the website excellent but it has certainly lost some if its functionality and it is taking time to get things sorted. I like the look of the new design and how some of that design has been used in Open Up - I just hope there will be sufficient investment to sort things out properly. In addition to the problems highlighted in recent posts, including your point about the online shop, I’m afraid it seems casting details are not being updated following performances. We still have the website showing Alastair Marriott as Drosselmeyer on 5 January - an example I’d noted and thought worth keeping an eye on. If systems aren’t in place to do things routinely there’ll be an ever growing backlog and ad hoc comments from audience members certainly do not provide a control!
  16. If you go to Spring, the Pite Triple Bill, and then 15th May, you do not get any casting details. That route through the website seems perfectly reasonable to take but sadly it does not give you the information that is available by taking other routes. That cannot be right.
  17. Sorry Richard LH. The website really is a mess. When not signed in, the opening page for the Pite Triple Bill is hopelessly deficient. You say if you go to a particular performance the details are the same if signed in or not. But try 15 May - no details when not signed in. And when it comes to General Booking, do people ‘sign in’? Also people might look at the opening page for an overview of what’s on/who’s performing and decide on preferred performances from that information which as I say is sadly lacking.
  18. At least the Pite Triple Bill cinema information matches the casting information when signed in: https://www.roh.org.uk/showings/within-the-golden-hour-new-sidi-larbi-cherkaoui-flight-pattern-live-2019 When not signed in the information really is hopeless as Bluebird and others have pointed out, and for some weeks now.
  19. Many thanks Bluebird - this really is poor as the problems have been flagged up for weeks. I’m still pretty sure that the correct information is when you’re signed in as the format matches the ballets. It may well be that when public booking opens the information you get when signed in as a Friend and able to buy tickets is then available to all but as I say this is poor.
  20. For rehearsal tickets the website states: “What happens if I cannot attend a rehearsal for which I have bought tickets? You can always return a rehearsal ticket for resale to the Box Office. Please note that, as the cost of the ticket is treated as a donation, we are not able to refund rehearsal tickets and nor can we exchange them.” As regards tickets on public sale, the website states: “Returned tickets may become available at any time, so please keep checking the website or call the Box Office on +44 (0)20 7304 4000. We sell returns for all ROH performances and venues.” It’s a great shame if Paul Hamlyn Hall events are not covered by ‘all ROH performances and venues’ or by the ‘Rehearsal’ section (although that is for General Rehearsals in the main theatre for Friends).
  21. I may be wrong and things may have changed but I thought tickets could be returned for resale - it’s that no refunds are given and the original ticket purchase is treated as a donation. Returning tickets that cannot be used gives other people the opportunity to purchase tickets, generates additional income for the Royal Opera House, and helps ensure that performers play to full houses. Whilst there may be no monetary incentive to return tickets, hopefully people recognise the wider public benefits. And of course they may be direct beneficiaries in being able to purchase returned tickets.
  22. I thought Takada was dancing with Campbell and they do of course have the cinema relay which I’m sure will be great. Naghdi/Sambe also looks fabulous although I’m struggling to recall what they’ve danced together - no doubt I’ll kick myself when someone points out what I’ve forgotten! But I think you might be rather spoilt for choices here.
