  1. We got it in a few weeks ago. I just wanted to know when we would hear back from them, I’m not very patient 😂 They do videos, if successful then prelims in February and then finals are in March.
  2. Does anyone know when ENB will be in contact after the deadline on Monday? Is it likely to be before Xmas? Thanks ☺️
  3. My Dd was in customised dreampointes, she then moved to Miracles (which are now like gold dust!). We went to Dancia International and she tried on a standard Streampointe, she said very similar to what she had, and didn’t need any customisations. She is using these and a new brand called Virtisse at school now.
  4. I’ve just seen Upper prices - which again is probably worth it, if you have the money. Min option is 2 weeks - that prices us out. It’s our first year applying for Upper - Has it always been this way? No option to do just 1 week?
  5. I’m hoping the more popular they become the more he will stock! 😂
  6. I got them from a stockist on instagram. We’ve used him for years for leos/tights etc and he’s never let me down! Devotedtodance
  7. I have had similar problem in Bloch, I feel they just want to give you the latest technology. We traipsed round London to find a replacement for her current brand as they are getting harded and harder to find at short notice. She did have success in Dancia, but I wanted her to have a 2nd brand so we weren’t stuck in the same situation we have now. Capezio were also good, but sadly the ones she liked are being discontinued! Eventually I contacted Devoted to Dance (instagram). He sent a number of pairs, based on what my DD is currently comfortable in. He also offered to do an online fitting, but I trust my DD to make the right judgement (been on pointe a long time, also at vocational school). We then simply returned the ones she didn’t like. She is now in a brand I had never heard of - Virtisse - and she loves them.
  8. Ah interesting to know about your friend. My knowledge comes from Elmhurst - It’s funding with DaDa but then you are helped financially by the school funds depending on your household income - which ‘almost’ replicates MDS funding that you get in Lower. I couldn’t see this as an offer from ENBS. I shall remain positive!
  9. Thanks. I’ve been doing my research for some years and there are options cheaper than ENBS, no one is looking for free (although that would be very handy!) ENBS is one of the most expensive for training, mainly because it doesn’t seem to have the same funding options as the others, of the same cost. There are also schools where the training comes in under the £10k mark. Pricey accommodation becomes less of a challenge. Based on the information on the ENBS website, I’m guessing that scholarships & bursaries are saved for those who stand out at auditions. Rather than those who would struggle financially, which is the case in some of the other schools. It’s just not that obvious to me from their website, and they didn’t reply to my enquiry last year. I guess we will find out if she is successful!
  10. Us too, which is why I wanted to know exactly what we would be looking at. My DD will still audition for the experience. I know we have DCs at the same school, I’ll be happy to share more info once we have been through the process this year 😊
  11. Thank you! I had emailed the school to try and find some info. I know there is no accommodation provided, but do they recommend anywhere? If so what kind of cost would we be looking at? Was there any support towards fees? I know about DADA, but was there any other help available? Are they still at the building in Fulham? Anything else that you think may be helpful to know! Thank you 😊
  12. Hi All, I’ve tried the search option but there seems to be very little topics about the school. Maybe I am searching incorrectly! We have experience of the ENB Junior programme they had, but not much else. If anyone has information they could share or point me to the Threads that already discuss this, that would be lovely. Happy for people to DM too. Thanks!
  13. Elmhurst don’t allow the lower school pupils to have their phones during the day. They get it for short amount of time in the mornings and then again when they finish school and hand in before bed. This was implemented Sept last year. I guess they are doing this for summer school too.
  14. It will depend of skin tone. My DD is very very pale, was going to wear her coral degas, but it looked washed out in photos. if you are taking them yourself, take a few practice shots in different leos. A professional photographer will probably ask you to bring a few options.
  15. I use Scott at Devoted to Dance. My DD has Tendu, they survive vocational school wash! I struggled with some batches of Silky, the crotch went very quickly, but then other times they have been fine. Bloch were a little too pink for my DD.
  16. From a mum who’s D’s clicky hip went from ‘just one of those things’ to ‘this is sticking’ to ‘this is now painful’ you are doing the right thing. I took her to a regular physio when it first started, she was given excercises for tightness, but not necessarily the right ones for a hypermobile ballerina. My DD started vocational school, and it became painful. She went to the school physio, it wasn’t an injury, but it was starting to limit her extensione etc. She did need physio, sports massage and her own excercise programme. She is now so much stronger than she was. I’ve heard good things about The Ballet Physio too.
  17. We live in Kent, takes about an hour to get to RAD headquarters. Might be worth looking at outskirts of London? Hotels could be cheaper, but not too far as trains then get expensive!
  18. My DD was flying through Bloch pointe shoes, due to her high arch. They didn’t ‘suck’ into her arch well enough and she didn’t have confidence in them. I will add she wasn’t even on pointe that often at the time. I will say be strong in Bloch they can sometimes push you towards the latest shoe, even if is not the most suitable. My DD was once told (by a fitter in Bloch) that she could take the larger size and ribbons elastics would ‘hold’ her in. She was alot younger at the time, and now we know more I am a bit horrifed at the suggestion. I guess it really is down to who you get on the day. Some people have great success in Bloch. My DD moved to Grishko Dreampointes & Miracles (one for class, one for performances) that had some customisations and has also recently tried Capezio. I would say the majority of staff at Calezio are more Jazz/Modern than ballet, but if you get the right person (I can’t remember her name) she was extremely helpful and understood what my DD was after from her shoes. Happy shopping!
  19. my tutu maker put in a removeable hoop. You could pull it out, roll the tutu and put into a suitcase.
  20. I see an Associates programme as a way for those very, cery interested in a particular style (in this instance ballet) to get extra training from teacher who understands ballet in a much more advanced way. Or a less expensive way of seeing if the DC wants to go into full time vocational/pre vocational training. Normally, the training is from someone who has been or is currently within the industry. It should be used alongside their current training. I don’t necessarily think it needs to be ‘associated’ to a vocational programme anymore. Maybe the word needs to change? But it is such a well recognised term now.
  21. Not sure of it had been said but an airer for the radiator - my dd hand washes some of her own clothes (her choice, not forced too!) and this has come in very handy! https://amzn.eu/d/hWdV8wr (hope the link has worked!)
  22. From my own experience, I would suggest to ask for parents to directly message you. This worked for me when I wanted more info on a vocational school, many parents will be happy to share their experiences. Some even picked up the phone to speak with me. With this good and bad feedback, you can then weigh up your options and make the best decision for your DC. Only you know what your DC can handle, and what environment would suit them. It’s by no means an easy decision. I would also keep in mind that some of issues highlighted with vocational school, are the same you find in alot of Secondary Schools - I had the privilege of this insight, as my DD was accepted to a vocational school for yr10, so had 3yrs of ‘normal’ school to compare. Good Luck with the decision making!
  23. I can add that she did do EYB twice, but before the vocational route became the plan. After yr7 auditions we did very little in the way of extras. No associates, no LCB, no EYB, just what was recommended by her teacher (the odd festival for performance opportunities) and the external teachers she brought on board for masterclasses and her summer school. We had to really watch what we were spending, but it still worked out. If you are in Essex, you definitely have access to extemely good schools that work on vocational entry for yr10 and 6th form 😊
  24. Oh I completely agree with that! We always we discussed the option to stop, with the knowledge that ballet has given her so many other skillsets, that if she packed it in tomorrow we would still be immensely proud of her. I think we need to be mindful our DCs have so much more to offer, just by being in ballet. The opportunities no matter how small are definitely building blocks to a good career, no matter if it is ballet or not. My DD is so much more confident than I was at that age.
