  1. Such sad news xxxx Rest in peace and condolences to his family and friends x
  2. Ahh my dd is based at Birmingham. BRB studios always boiling!
  3. Just to say, they never go in class in their joggers, so it doesn’t matter what colour they are as it’s only for travelling in. Kids wear full all in one warm ups, leggings, jeans etc on the bottom and some wear joggers but it really doesn’t matter xx Almost all wear the zip ups though xx
  4. Photos, always been an odd one as the written rule has always been there. Don’t take inside the buildings and don’t take of other children (especially if you don’t have permission) certainly. Everyone has a photo outside the building though in their tracksuit, especially if it’s at London or Birmingham where it’s a royal ballet building. Not meant to post on social but in reality everyone does of their own child in their uniform on their first day etc and lots of dance schools also post. Perhaps don’t tag RBS on a hashtag just in case 😂 The only time you are allowed to take photos inside a building is on watching days and only at the time when the teachers allow it (never during class), but again should only post photos with other children on if you have their permission. I see photos every year from all centres. But only at the allowed times, and although they do say don’t post, parents are proud and they do, but being careful not to post pictures of people they don’t have permission from x
  5. Congratulations xxxx Year 4/5 is a mixed year class with girls and boys from 12.45-3pm x (Year 6 is girls and boys - 3.15-5.30pm) These times are for the 24 sessions class (the other class runs slightly later if I recall) ... and thats if it’s still the same as my dd is an MA now, but I think it is xx Once you accept the place you’ll get an email with a list of dates along with uniform list and a handbook within a week or two, but for info, the classes generally run term time with odd Saturdays off, and extended school holidays (so perhaps the Saturday before and after the school hols for example) xxx
  6. Congratulations! Your dd will have the most wonderful teacher for the 24 session class in Birmingham (she is normally the teacher they use in the auditions too as she’s so fantastic with the children!)
  7. My dd is an MA and was a JA. The children offered mids places in her year were the JAs that got white lodge finals but didn’t get a place at white lodge. There were more of those than places at MAs so not all at finals were offered MAs sadly. There was also a girl that had never been a JA that got to white lodge finals that started straight as an MA and she had no problems fitting in at all. So I would say mids is harder to get a place than JAs but certainly it is not only open to those children who are JAs, they take who they want and who they’ve seen. Perhaps when applying for mids it’s an idea to put down applying for white lodge too (as it’s the same audition anyway) as most MAs that I know of got to white lodge finals. That was what was recommended to the JAs, even if they didn’t want to go off to vocational school xxx

  13. Ballet shoes don’t fit like normal shoes though, so definitely go to the shop near to you rather than pick one online. (I’d pick the shop that has the best range of brands of ballet shoes so you have a good choice). Bloch are lovely shoes but won’t be the best shoe for everyone, and even within one brand like Bloch there are lots of different named shoes which all fit differently. Enjoy the experience of going and trying on lots of shoes. They’ll ask if you want canvas, satin or leather ballet shoes and you’ll also need to know whether you want full sole or split sole shoes, so ask your teacher what her preference is before you go as that will narrow the choice down for you too x
  14. Last year it was the same application and I’m sure the fee covered applying for either one or both x
  15. Please do XX enjoy the rest of your holiday xxx
  16. Sending love to both @Picturesinthefirelightand To you @Snowflake xxxx hope your husbands both get some answers soon xxx And fingers crossed for your lovely dd pictures, what a stressful time she must have had xx
  17. A Mid associate (of the Royal Ballet) is the next stage from JAs (junior associates) - for academic years 7-9 (then they may wish to audition for senior associates ... There are fewer places than for JAs and classes take place at fewer centres around the country, and the class tends to be a mixed year group class for years 7-9 (may be different in London?). Places are offered to children following an audition and are generally taken up if they don’t get a vocational school place of their choice or if they had chosen not to go away that age, but still wish to continue or start training weekly with the Royal Ballet School associate scheme (as although a lot of places are previous JAs, children who have not been JAs also can apply and get places on the scheme)
  18. I don’t think it’s irrelevant at all. It shows in a very rough manner, as originally highlighted by the poster, that although WL takes a large number of youngsters who have been through their training programme from an early age, either at year 7 entrance from JAs, or year 8/9/10 etc from MAs, that they do not necessarily stay for the whole time at White Lodge, and then fewer still are selected for upper school, I thought it was an interesting observation which shows how tough the training programme is as more international students (plus students from other Lower schools / different training routes etc) aim to join the Royal Ballet as they get older.
  19. Yes they do wear them but I know what you mean! I also got my dd some alternative nude pants from a dancewear shop that have a discreet waistband and has a little more bottom coverage 🙈 and she mainly wore those though - I think basically as long as they’re nude (you couldn’t wear anything else with that white leotard!! - the teacher doesn’t mind what they wear as long as she can’t see them x (I’ve just looked at them and no labels in them as they’re seamless so can’t tell you the brand I’m afraid) xx
  20. Every child bar one in my dd class has a mat, mostly in a separate bag with a shoulder strap for ease of carrying x
  21. I’m so sorry for your loss xxxxxx signed xxxx
  22. Birmingham yr 6 JA timings have been - 24 weeks - 3.15-5.30pm 32 weeks I believe were a slightly later start either 3.30-5.45 or 3.45-6.00pm Whether that’s changing from September I don’t know but hope that helps a little x
  23. That’s right Myballetboy, certainly at Birmingham in regards to spaces in year 6. There are 2 year 6 classes so there are generally a good number of spaces available for new JAs going into year 6 as only the year 5s from the 2 joint 4/5 classes move up, so about half of each class is new students in year 6. So fingers crossed Tiredtoes xxx
