  1. Unless distance means hotel stay necessary each time sadly! My fantasy lottery win ticket booking takes me to Birmingham regularly….& I love reading about upcoming ballet in all corners of the world….could so happily spend my year just following ballet around the world!
  2. I vote for a return of Pacers…. The marketing campaign is sorted….😉 Sorry to take a light aside…. I for one am not tempted (not even by the 25% discounted tickets offer from ROH - I finally fell into their radar for offers! Still intrigued how they plan these?) to buy tickets…I would dearly love to be there for Morera’s farewell but am just not feeling spurred on to part with all the money a trip to London requires judging by peoples comments…. I’ve not really felt this last year has been great for RBS productions…
  3. I’d also suggest on occasion dancers look to substitute out sone of the physical & technique training for mental training…. Footballers spend classroom time on tactics & have lots of mentor support these days…I’d like to see more of this from grass roots, vocational & through to company level…. It is vastly increased from a few years ago but still seen as weakness in sone quarters if a dancer is not just taking classes classes classes…. Mental stamina & emotional understanding surely as important as physical strength? And I’d also add in more training about artistry & musicality if I could gift the world of dance training a way to allow dancers to be happier & allow their individuality to develop…. And audiences I think would benefit too! (I do stress that I speak as a lay person not from any professional standpoint)
  4. Doesn't feel like that many minutes in total of dancing.....is this usual for Jewels? Almost feel like they could run Emeralds & Rubies together, then interval, then Diamonds & - if they must have a second interval - do another short one act ballet or a couple of items from the Sunday Gala.....I'm sure the UK audience have waited a long time for this visit so deserve a bit more stage time!
  5. I’d never heard of La Duca…. Is this a ‘new’ dance brand & where are they stocked? Tbh… mostly only had to buy ballet to date but aware dancers need to be ready to triple threat these days!!
  6. Great idea! Do think I’d prefer to see funding going lower down rather than to the top echelon companies who already are heavily state subsidised/have corporate sponsors/wealthy donors etc. Im sure in these diverse times the benefactors of this will indeed be more varied & let’s hope perhaps champion newcomers/start-ups too as todays young dancers cannot rely on jobs being there in traditional company formats!
  7. Out of interest, are the ‘Dreams’ cast just involved in the one performance & is that then SB with the regular pro dancers supplemented by ‘dreams’ dancers or is it a show cast instead just from ‘dream’ dancers?
  8. What a shame such a limited number of performances…. Wonder if one will be filmed? Be great if so to share Brandon’s last performance!
  9. When & where are BRB performing Apollo? Super keen to watch this! Hope they tour!
  10. Out of interest… years back I seem to recall you could do an intensive week on a vocational grade with then option of having booked to do exam at end….is this still possible this year?
  11. Good points Angela… again there are staging options:- whether historical or contemporary can give opportunities for vastly differing interpretations….I for one love to see right across the spectrum!
  12. Oh dear…. Should’ve proof-read…. ‘Yogi’ was meant to read as ‘Yoof’ (as in youth!!) Quite a different reading 😂
  13. This may have already been mentioned higher up but in case not…. Quite by chance I discovered an smacking talent the other day (can hear people shouting I must’ve been living under a rock 😂) Anyway…. A concert of an interesting ballet score in London in Sept….doubt I can go but would if I could! https://www.barbican.org.uk/whats-on/2023/event/london-symphony-orchestra-half-six-fix-pulcinella
  14. I did read this & at first & assumed it was a collaboration with Matthew Bourne… using words ‘motion picture’ in title perhaps a little distracting…? But reading through I see it’s a very broad & interesting mix!
  15. Oh dear….I fear I am in danger of getting labeled a snowflake! It is true that ‘yogi today’ are influencing sone of my views & making me perhaps more aware of how things can be read….& I enjoy challenging myself to view things from different perspectives! I guess I have always been one to look at the true message we send out to society…. Never was one to watch Pretty Woman & think ‘ah, what a nice happy ending film’…. I found it morally vacant & pushing trash values….cannot believe that it got a re-visit by becoming a musical in recent times…. I do not approve of censoring history but I do think historical pieces including ballets can stand us asking questions & occasional reworkings…. Such as Akram Khans very thought provoking version of Giselle
  16. Oh in theory I’d completely agree….but in practise I think the examiner we had on the day actually couldn’t see that technique & leg heights were all spot on whether 12, 30 or 50…. But you could absolutely see he was visually challenged seeing perfect youth next to real world women! Could be a trendy ad these days - ha ha!
  17. Yes - I agree! I’ve viewed it in the past as almost an unwritten empathy & sign of feminist sisterhood but that sadly it’s the old class & wealth & status divide that’s at play… that really the 2 woman are actually in the same situation of not be able to make life choices… that they are both victims of a misogynistic and paternalistic class system. Frankly, rather than being a catch, Albrecht is a dishonourable player & both women would be better off without him! I’m wondering if I’ve seen (or imagined?) a version where Bathilde & Myrtha is a duel role danced & meant to be envisioned as one & the same…like a prophecy? As let’s face it, marriage to that cad Albrecht would be a slow death wouldn’t it? He’d be unfaithful, likely physically & mentally abusive (as he is to Giselle),controlling & a gas lighter The full works of bad behaviour of an overly entitled narcissist! Ive definitely seen Albrecht portrayed exactly as that with absolutely no redeeming characteristics - even to the end. That the women make a silent protest yet still maintain the status quo by allowing him to live… & no doubt go on to ruin the lives of many more peasant & posh girls!!
  18. Lots of good valid points…. Guess was thinking from ‘my viewpoint’ & life situation when a Sunday show to escape to would be great - ha ha! But totally take point about Sundays being valuable family time etc….
