  1. ???? I might add that there is a special hashtag on Twitter, #Vadimhairwatch....!
  2. Agreed, Simon - what a performance from, especially, Vadim and Marianella, but also from all the cast. Following the fantastic accounts and reviews from their previous performances, I was full of anticipation for tonight's, and I wasn't disappointed. I don't think I have ever seen Vadim dance better (those entrechats!), but then Albrecht is a role that shows off both his formidable technical skills and his acting skills to perfection. As someone on Twitter put it; "I could watch Vadim being danced to death all night" Marianella was just exquisite, and between them they made the ballet so incredibly moving - impossible not to feel a tear at the end. A wonderful partnership in the making; let's hope the Royal Ballet nurture this one..... I can't wait to see it again at the cinema on Wednesday. Taking my mother-in-law - she is a recent convert to Vadim, having seen him in The Two Pigeons, and now adores him!
  3. Yes, Elena Glurjidze - and I'm glad you mentioned Laura Morera! She is not, perhaps, the ideal ballerina shape or image, but she is just so good that she transcends that, and she is definitely one of my favourites. Add to that, Daria Klimentova, Marianella Nunez, Alina Cojocaru, Yasmin Naghdi.
  4. Is there a time difference at the moment between here and Portugal? Just occurred to me....!
  5. It's listed at my cinema as starting at 7:15, which seems to be the norm. And yes, there are usually some interesting introductory films beforehand from that time, with the performance beginning at 7:30.
  6. Totally with you on Sleeping Beauty - not even keen on the music...!
  7. I'm in Plymouth but not really an opera fan. Besides, all spent up on ROH tickets for the rest of the season! Thanks for the heads-up though. I wonder if I'm the only forum member in darkest Devon?
  8. I was going to suggest a river trip too if there is time. Or the Science Museum - plenty in there to keep 12 year olds interested, and if you wanted to pay once you are in there, there's the 3D IMAX cinema.
  9. I'm sure it will sell well. A lot of people did seem to enjoy Carmen. I was at a conference last week talking to a colleague from the other end of the country, and it turned out she is a huge ballet fan and often sees performances in the ROH. She saw Carmen and absolutely loved it. So I'm sure others who feel the same will buy the DVD/blu Ray. I am really happy that the wonderful Viscera will be available, and the Vadim/Sarah Lamb performance of Faun. I'm less excited about the Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux - although I love it, for me that particular performance felt a bit "polite", and fell a bit flat.
  10. I wouldn't buy it for Carmen, but I would for the other three ballets.
  11. Hmm - does this mean this mixed bill is coming out on DVD? I don't remember any announcements about it - but maybe I'm wrong.
  12. Same thing happened with me with an Insight evening a few months ago. Waited for general booking to open without much hope and found they had kept 30 tickets back for general booking, and I snabbled one. It pays to check!
  13. I deliberately didn't mention my particular favourites either, Capybara, as I could become quite a bore on the subject!
  14. So, who has tipped Golding as "Carlos Acosta's successor? Did I miss something? Or is this just something dreamed up by the journalist for the purposes of the article? No disrespect to Golding, who is a fine dancer, but I find statements like that somewhat annoying, especially as they blithely ignore the other many hugely talented male dancers, both established and up and coming, in the company, who are at least equally worthy "successors". In any case, you can't talk about "successors" as all dancers are different and bring varying qualities to the table. There will never be a successor to Acosta was Acosta, just as McRae is McRae, or Golding is Golding. With the level of quality we get from all these dancers, I really disagree with comparisons about who is a "better" dancer than someone else. It is really largely a matter of personal preference at the end of the day - I know my preferred dancers (which often comes down to how much they move me when they perform as much as the quality of the dancing), but I don't think I would ever say they were better than the next dancer, just different. Hmm - this was meant to be a short post - sorry, got a bit carried away!
  15. All those Ballet Evolved videos that they put up on YouTube are fascinating.
  16. Perhaps final casting may be dependent on casting for The Invitation? Depending on who they (finally) cast in that, it may mean changes elsewhere in the bill. Just a thought.
  17. Just realising that travel arrangements have hijacked this thread again.....! Better return to topic ????
  18. If I come up for a matinee I have to come from Plymouth - and like Janet, I like to leave plenty of time to allow for traffic problems or other unforeseen delays. Plus, of course, lunch! It's doable by train (unless it's a Sunday, when the earliest train from Plymouth wouldn't get me there in time!), but trains are expensive so I've started coming by coach, which, of course, takes even longer.... An overnight stay isn't always financially viable when you add in the cost of the performance ticket, plus travel, plus food etc.
  19. I can't book until 1st March but having blown a lot of money this year on ROH performances, I can really only justify another one if it's a cast I really want to see. So having that information before booking opens would be helpful!
  20. Maybe they were just there to see Osipova in Strapless. If they have a good reason for leaving early, then fine, but otherwise I think it is incredibly disrespectful to the dancers - who, as you say, Capybara, have had to wait around to perform.
  21. Lovely interview with Morera in Dance Tabs (see today's links).
  22. Morera was injured before the last run of Two Pigeons, so maybe she still is. Don't know about Golding.
