  1. And I've just had an email through from Sadler's headed "Great prices, exceptional dance at Sadler’s Wells‏" which totally manages not to mention them, either. Grrrr.
  2. Actually, I'm wondering whether it's partly because the venue is no longer (barring the Trocks and the odd dance school graduation performances) perceived as a ballet theatre. When you think that Johan Kobborg and co. managed to sell out (I think) the Queen Elizabeth Hall for several similar performances maybe a decade ago, and how well the RDB's last visit to Sadler's went, I'm not sure what has happened in the meantime. Having ENB and the RB performing at the same time probably doesn't help, of course.
  3. That's very good news for Itziar. At least Tatiana is a role which, historically, ballerinas have gone on dancing until late in their careers, so fingers crossed that we will get to see Lauren in it sooner or later.
  4. What on earth is it doing on Page 2?! The only things on before it are Edward Scissorhands and The Snowman, and I suspect the latter has probably finished its run. Why on earth bother hosting this gem of a company if you're not going to publicise it? FWIW, I actually bought my ticket pretty much the day booking opened
  5. Oh, curses - just in the middle of the time when my Fair Use policy will prevent me from actually watching it live, and my monthly subscription runs out 10 minutes before that period ends and I could have watched it, assuming that it will be accessible after the event as well
  6. I'm glad to hear it went so well: Osipova is a bit of a hard act to follow
  7. It's an idea, Bruce, but I think the whole concept of the Links forum is to keep it so that only the Links people can contribute to it, so it may not work. And come to think of it, if you're like me and end up not visiting the Links for some days you'll be too late to go and seek out a hard copy of the paper if you want to!
  8. Thanks, capybara. Ask and ye shall receive - well, in this case, anyway Here's my slightly messy attempt: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/8585-times-watch-and-other-behind-paywall-articles/page-1#entry62293
  9. Our marvellous links people don't put up links to sites which aren't publicly accessible, although we do encourage posters to flag up anything of significant interest which they find in The Times and elsewhere, and on this occasion someone did - see the conversation here: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/8525-articles-behind-a-paywall/ I'll go and start the thread I threatened to now ...
  10. Ah. Perhaps I'm confusing them with the Bolshoi, then. Thanks for the correction, Katherine.
  11. On the other hand, the POB has, I think, well over twice the number of dancers that the Royal does (250?), and at times is running two separate ballet performances in its two theatres, which makes their situation a bit different. I suppose it depends how far down the ranks you are going to cast: in the Royal, I'm not sure whether there are any First Soloists I'd cast as Kitri - I'm not quite sure I see Choe in the role.
  12. Wish that she'd had one for her scheduled Nutcrackers, which I *could* have gone to That would have been the only thing which might have lured me back for a second look - I found myself looking fondly back at the *Derek Deane* version, which says something!
  13. Yes, but the comparison was between Soares/Nunez and Muntagirov/Takada - there's a much more noticeable size difference with the latter two than with the former.
  14. That, at least, should be less demanding on the male dancers in the company ...
  15. And welcome from me too, Balletfanp! Yes, but do bear in mind the relative sizes of the dancers . I don't actually think Soares is quite tall enough to be partnering his wife in the Classical rep, although I suppose that may be less important for Don Q than in other ballets.
  16. Sounds like last week's performance, then. Trouble is, it's a bit of a vicious circle, isn't it? The theatregoers may need a more rousing production/performance to make them more responsive ...
  17. And now it doesn't, again. No idea what may have changed - although I don't think it's my browser.
  18. More on *editing* your own posts here: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/3002-editing-postings/ I think there is probably a "Delete" button which appears at the bottom of your post for the first 30 minutes, too, but have no way of testing this.
  19. Dancing with Golding, I take it? Oh yes, just read the linked piece. That'll be good: she may not know the production, but she'll at least be familiar with her Basilio, which will count for a lot. I'm almost sorry I exchanged my ticket, except that I seem to be going down with a bit of a cold, so might not have made it anyway.
  20. Unfortunately, Cuthbertson was having an off night when that live broadcast was made (the RB didn't issue it on DVD, did they?). I guess such things do happen occasionally: it's just unfortunate that it was so public. I was rather surprised when I saw that Sky were being allowed to show it, though.
  21. Volunteers - at a cinema? It's not another Picturehouse intent on trying to avoid paying a living wage, is it?
  22. I understand Morera has had some injury problems, although whether that affected the decision as to what to cast her in in Don Q I don't know.
  23. I think you've unwittingly hit the nail on the head there, Joan. If Marianela and Thiago were in South America (on holiday?), it would presumably have been difficult for management to contact them and see if they were happy to do a short-notice replacement until they got back. I'd guess that, along with Christmas getting in the way, is the reason for the short notice.

As, unfortunately (and I think I've moaned about this before), is the increasing nasty habit of quoting people's Twitter feeds as quotes rather than actually going and getting a proper one. You can usually tell, because there will be the odd word missed out, and so on.
