  1. I thought your son was fab CeliB, I'd be bursting with pride!
  2. Well done to the yes's and fingers crossed next time for the no's. Do we have any DDs on the forum who have been offered finals for year 9 and 10 (going into these years)?
  3. The problem with a lot of summer schools overseas especially the USA is that the younger ones start in June and most of our schools in the the UK don't finish until Mid July. Look at Walnut Hill I think they do mid July-August for her age range.
  4. DD just wore her leotard and rolled up her tights. Some girls did bring a top to go over the leotard and some wore jazz trousers. I don't think they mind for that section as long as there potential and a smile.
  5. I always admire those little ones that keep trying year in year out! You never know!
  6. I agree Hammond will be looking for potential and an ability to lend her hand to most of the skill set with the right training. DD was in the same position when she went for the Hammond audition. She sang 'castle on a cloud' as she doesn't have a strong voice but has a nice little tone. Good luck they are lovely staff!
  7. Don't forget DanceWorks which is also very good, slightly less busy and very near Selfridges!
  8. Surely it is done by DOB? If you are currently in year 7 applying for year 8 and there was a particuarly tall girl at the back of the line and she was an October baby and a particular small girl at the front who was an August baby they could probably say it was due to the fact one was much older/younger than the other without referring to cvs. DD went to the insight day at RBS in October and they did it this way.
  9. Can anyone actually open the application forms for the ballet training days which is the one underneath the insight days? It keeps coming up 'error'?
  10. Nightmare dtadmin we had the same bug and it wasn't the usual 24 hr one. Fingers crossed she will be ok for the 22nd and it will be wonderful xxx
  11. I was wondering why UK students don't enter this competition, surely we are good enough?
  12. I've not heard of one yet from either year 9 or 10
  13. Big hugs to all those nos... DD got a straight no last year from Elmhurst for year 8 and we were very disappointed not to get to the finals but she knew it wasn't a good audition! But....... there are many other amazing schools and opportunities out there and one of them is waiting for you if you keep working hard and never give up!
  14. So pleased it was much better this year for your DD. Good luck!
  15. Good luck today especially those who are trying for a second or third time! I really really hope it is your year!
  16. DD attended Opes for the first time this year. It is usually in August at a place called Ranby in Nottinghamshire and is residential. DD said children come from all over the place some from abroad, some local ballet schools like her, some vocational schools so it was a good opportunity to meet new friends and experience children of varying standards. DD was in Intermediate 1 and had about 17 in her class. She did Rep/Pilates/Ballet Technique and Contemporary every day. Performance at the end of the week was amazing and we all felt she had progressed so much in just four days. I appreciated not all courses sort everyone but DD is going for two weeks in 2015 and I started saving the moment we left Nottingham! Hope this helps!
  17. I need to get one too in a 28 A so off to the shops this Saturday! Can't believe the Christmas rush has started already!
  18. My advice is to find a summer school where the classes are smaller (limited) so you are not lost at the back of the class. Some schools have very large classes and this forum has been excellent letting us know what other students/parents think. If you want to work hard, improve your performance and technique then OPES really stood out for us last year If you want to have fun, improve your confidence and experience lots of different forms of dance then somewhere like Tring or Harpenden are both excellent but not residential. Also ask your ballet teacher as they might have some sound advice that is suitable for you.
  19. If you wish to see a consultant privately they will still expect a referral from your GP.
  20. Nightmare and all the effort with photos etc! Glad you check xx
  21. All the luck in the World to your DD
  22. I would cast your net wide as the places are so highly sought after in all schools at this level. You may have to go with what you are offered and it will no doubt turn out for the best! Best of luck
