  2. Also, the Sunday Times News section today has a photograph of the Romanian dancer Diana Georgia Ionescu, who won a scholarship at the Prix de Lausanne yesterday.

  4. I don't think there was a production between the 1946 version and Peter Wright's in 1968, was there? They tweaked the 1946 one a bit over the years but the Wright was the first completely new one.

Also, the US-based forum Balletalert has a long thread about the ballet, 58 topics ranging from history to trivia. It's in the section Ballets and Choreographers.

But both Naghdi's performances are Saturday matinees and you'll notice that all the matinees are sold out, whoever is dancing - and there are exactly 4 tickets left for Hayward's Monday night performance and lots more than that for nights when Nunez or Osipova dance - don't think you can deduce much from all that!
  8. A couple of interesting things from the Sunday Express review of Peter Schaufuss's Nutcracker - one is the photographs, the other is that apparently this production will be shown at this year's Edinburgh Festival and possibly in London. Hmm...
  9. Interesting that the Nutcracker programme and the Bussell/Fonteyn programme are already available as downloads from the BBC Store - £3.99 and £1.89 respectively, a bit more if you want HD. I hope they'll soon start releasing some of their older programmes too...
  10. FLOSS, I realise this is a personal choice but can you explain what appears to me a drastic undervaluation of Balanchine? To me Agon and Symphony in three Movements and... and... and... are out of sight more valuable than Brouillards or Voluntaries, yes, and some of your Ashton choices as well!

  14. Debra Craine has a long piece about Peter Wright in this morning's Times, which includes the news that a paperback version of his book is in preparation, and that he thinks it will be much better as he didn't have time to edit the hardback version properly.

  18. I can't remember the exact circumstances but I see I wrote at the time that although Cojocaru and Kobborg were the planned first cast "they withdrew during the last weeks of rehearsal" . Also I see that Invitus Invitam came top of the ballet.co poll in the Best New Production category that year.
  19. No, it was the one Kim Brandstrup made, with Benjamin and Watson - a lovely piece I thought.

  22. FLOSS, I have to say my recollection of the pas de deux at the original performances is very different from yours - I remember it as looking, above all else, very difficult indeed , and that Sibley and Dowell looked far from at ease in it. Maybe they mastered it at later performances.
