ROYAL OPERA HOUSE LIVE PERFORMANCES AUTUMN 2020
Lynette H replied to a topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
When you buy a ticket, it seems (unless I missed something) that you have to pay by credit card, and there's no option to use a credit voucher. I do have some that I really hope to be using in future, but I didn't spot how to this time. Has anyone else tried to use one ? -
What's On Stage has a round up of theatre openings which have been announced for September and October including socially distanced performances at the Bridge Theatre and National Theatre https://officiallondontheatre.com/news/government-confirms-indoor-theatre-performances-can-begin-from-15-august/?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=NL_20_08_16 (1)&spMailingID=43198328&spUserID=NzcxMTkyMzEyNTk2S0&spJobID=1821175645&spReportId=MTgyMTE3NTY0NQS2 They give further details including performances at the Coliseum from 1st December. This appears to include the ENB Nutcracker. https://officiallondontheatre.com/news/upcoming-rescheduled-west-end-shows/ Other venues have announced performances from the autumn. There are some performances at Kings Place where you can choose a ticket in the hall (there won't be many) or to watch a live stream. An example here https://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on/classical/the-sixteen-music-for-reflection/

LIVE FROM COVENT GARDEN
Lynette H replied to jm365's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Having watched it live and then taking another look at the recording, it seemed to me that the sound quality on Song of the Earth had improved considerably on the recording. Live there were moments when it seemed a bit faint or unclear, but no such issues when accessing the recorded version. -

It is on now. Morgen was played. There was a brief phone interview with Pappano where he indicated (among other things) that the third concert would feature the young singers - I assume the Jette Parker artists. -
Feel slightly surprised that the ROH didn't give a direct link to where you can register with Vimeo. Basic membership is free but there are varying levels of paid-for membership as well. I created an account there after buying the ticket - it needs a different password. You get an email from them to which you need to reply in order to create the account. I am wondering if you can watch the stream live from the link the ROH gives you in the confirmation email but to watch later you will need to go via the Vimeo site.

I did enjoy seeing the DTH creole Giselle. I did see it in London as Jane describes here (at the Coliseum I think, in the mid 80s). I also remember their version of Firebird, though that might not have been on the same visit (did they come back the next year?). As I recall it, at the conclusion of Firebird, the Firebird herself descends on wires from above the stage above the celebratory tableau. I thought she was very brave. Does anyone else remember this ?- 1,212 replies

Dutch National Ballet have two mixed bills by Hans van Manen coming up. Until May 10th "Trois Gnossiennes is a wonderful pas de deux about surrender, trust and harmony to the quiet music of Satie. Solo is a raging relay, a 'solo' for three, because, as Van Manen stated at the time, Bach's Violin Partita cannot be danced by one person because of its murderous tempo. Immediately after the premiere, the ballet was already labelled 'a masterpiece in six minutes'. Adagio Hammerklavier is now truly a classic, inspired by the adagio in Beethoven's music, Van Manen explored how slow a movement can be. Or, as he once typified his ode, 'a wheel that, after a move, just runs, just doesn't fall over'." https://www.operaballet.nl/en/online/ballet/streaming Its then Swan Lake from 9th May and a further Hans van Manen programme from 16 May.- 1,212 replies

This is available now for streaming. Recorded about 10 years ago. Where are the students who appeared in it now ? I'm sure that some people out there will know. And, by the way, why do I have nagging memories of Martin Harvey in Peter and the Wolf ? An earlier version ? Seems like there was one back in 1995. Your memories please ?

Does anyone recall William Tuckett's The Sandman, a film made for Channel 4 (If I remember correctly). Very creepy and atmospheric . Based on the E.T.A Hoffman storey. It was made in 2000 and had a terrific cast (Mukhamedov, Rojo, Yanowsky and I think Adam Cooper too. ) I haven'y found much trace of it, but the memory of it has lingered nevertheless.
