  1. Deborah Bull has been made a life peer "in recognition of her authority on public engagement with, and the impact of arts, culture and the creative industries." Details from Kings College here https://www.kcl.ac.uk/news/News-Article.aspx?id=102e4d3d-00b9-4a0f-8d99-d967fc850092 That article doesn't seem to mention her career as a dancer at all....
  2. Spotted in the latest Friends magazine: "We are on track" for "first performances in the new Linbury in mid December". New public spaces to be open in September.
  3. Spotted right at the end of the Friends June email: "As a result of tough economic conditions, reduced funding and rising expenditure, we must make sure that we manage our costs effectively. Therefore we have increased the fee for exchanges and re-sales from £2 to £4, with effect from the 2018/19 Season."
  4. I was wondering if Michael Coleman was Cattalabutte at every performance. Did anyone else do it ? Considering he is in his late 70s he seemed remarkably spritely.
  5. There are a couple of productions on at the Old Vic this September that don't seem (as yet) to have much publicity. Sylvia is a co production (Old Vic, Sadler's Wells, Zoonation). 3 - 22nd Sept. "Votes for Women and a fractured family at a momentous hour in British history. 100 years after the first women in Britain were granted the vote, Kate Prince combines dance, hip hop, soul and funk to shed new light on a remarkable story at the heart of the Suffragette movement." https://www.oldvictheatre.com/whats-on/2018/sylvia-2 Also at the Old Vic, a work about Samuel Peyps, 26-29 Sept "17c splices music, dance, video and spoken word in a reverb-soaked romp through the tell-all diaries of the famed 17-century diarist and his tragic wife Bess. Conceived and directed by Annie-B Parson (Here Lies Love, Lazarus), New York City based company Big Dance Theater makes its UK premiere at The Old Vic." https://www.oldvictheatre.com/whats-on/2018/17c
  6. Some details here http://www.grosvenorlondon.com/whats-on/ballet-in-the-square/ "a selection of some of the best classical and contemporary work in the company’s repertoire featuring leading talent from around the world."
  7. I've had some mail notifications selling tickets for this event in Grosvenor Square, but nothing from ENB. Anybody know more ?

  10. ENO bans food and drink in the auditorium (but only for musical theatre) https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/05/05/eno-bans-audience-bringing-food-drink-musical-theatre-shows/
  11. There was an ad for this in the ENB Voices of America programme "Programme includes Rooster Chrisopher Bruce Mermaid Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui Carmen Carlos Acosta" "With Acosta Danza and a Live Orchestra"
  12. Playlist 1,2 would sit very happily in one of Sadler's annual Sampled programmes, where they serve up a mix of excerpts from different companies and genres. The stalls seats are taken out and standing down there is cheap. I can imagine it going down very well with that usually very lively audience.
  13. The new pricing tool seems to be back now. I was just looking to see the Nutcracker prices and they are indeed eye watering.
  14. In the links today there is news of more dance programmes on BBC4 in May http://www.atvtoday.co.uk/113915-bbc/
  15. Manon has been very widely staged. It may be one of his most performed works. In Europe it has been performed by Paris Opera Ballet, La Scala, Dresden Semperoper, and Royal Danish Ballet. In the US, it's been performed by Houston Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. It's been performed by The Australian Ballet. It seems to pop up all over the place - It was being staged in Mexico City in the autumn of last year.
  16. Europe and the World - a music festival at the British Museum 16 - 29th April This is a first for the BM "Europe and the world: a symphony of cultures brings together diverse musical traditions in the extraordinary setting of the Museum’s galleries, surrounded by objects in the collection. Experience works by composers that pushed European music in new directions by connecting with other cultures, including Richard Strauss, Berio, Stockhausen, Messiaen, Ligeti and Nono. Enjoy these works alongside performances devoted to historic international traditions such as classical music from India, Spanish flamenco music, Japanese spiritual music from the 7th century and Byzantine choral music." Details here http://www.britishmuseum.org/whats_on/europe_and_the_world.aspx There are a number of associated events, some of which are free. (So if you are curious what Ligeti's piece for 100 metronomes looks and sounds like in practice, this is your chance......)
  17. The BBC web site is here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00bb3wt This should have links to all the programmes as available on iplayer
  18. Just tried to look to see if the pricing for the Nutcracker is as jaw dropping as it seemed when I took a quick look yesterday, and it seems the dynamic pricing tool has vanished. "We want to ensure that you have the best possible experience so are just making final checks before going live. We apologize for this temporary inconvenience and will ensure that all customers have access to seat price information well in advance of tickets going on sale."
  19. The Dancing in the Blitz programme is available on iPlayer here https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p01s4z2h/dancing-in-the-blitz-how-world-war-2-made-british-ballet?suggid=p01s4z2h
  20. The full list of credits (which did indeed speed by) is available on Wayne McGegor's web site here: http://waynemcgregor.com/productions/winged-bull-in-the-elephant-case
  21. There's a little nugget in the Friends magazine about "Live at Lunch" - pop up performances on Fri, Sun and Mon from 1-2pm, which will feature the Jette Parker Young Artists, the orchestra, the chorus, the RB, and visiting artists (not all at the same time one presumes). These will take place in the Crush Rooom, Paul Hamlyn Hall or Linbury foyer. In the last two the performances will be free. Crush room performances are ticketed, prices to be revealed this summer.
  22. I do long to see Les Biches and Les Noces again. But no. Will they ever appear again I wonder ?
  23. I was in Mexico city last autumn and the Palacio de Bellas Artes was at that time advertising performances of Manon. I didn't catch the name of the company, but it was a local one. I know it was also due to stage performances by the Ballet Folklorico. (I think they perform there quite regularly). There were also brochures about the place which advertised live transmissions from (among others) the Royal Ballet and NT live. It's a beautiful building, with a very good bookshop. I would recommend calling in just to admire the architecture. But I haven't spotted anything scheduled very far in advance so I think you may need to keep checking nearer the time.
