  1. My order would be- Body proportions Turnout Feet Flexibility All coming after the way the student danced and only for ballet, but I'm not teacher or anything so just my opinion. But must say when I look at young dancers I can tell who I like within 5 minutes, wonder if at auditions they are the same?
  2. Which hotel is the nearest?thanks. We still have a year left by the way but time is going so fast!!!!
  3. All your dogs are gorgeous.Really enjoyed reading! My little baby as you can see is a Husky. His name is Oscar and he is 18 months old.I didn't want a dog but my kids pressured my dh and myself into it.He is a big baby and follows me around everywhere. He can speak and says, mama when he wants me and can also call his girlfriend Lila who lives next door! We love him to bits.
  4. Salsa in the evenings outside in a hot country is so difficult expecially when it's 40 degrees but has a nice feel to it,and i love the water fans spraying! Ballet on the other hand is completely different I would of thought. Not cold or too hot without fans or a/c but maybe heat the room up to a decent temperature before class begins?
  5. Michelle- never seen any hip/belly wiggles here, apart from maybe me doing bachata!lol
  6. I done lots of gymnastics when I young and taught a little so I have helped my dd to do basic gymnastics.I was worried as she has a very flexible back so I didn't want her to take regular classes.she has worked very hard on strengthening her back and it causes no problems with her ballet posture. In her ballet class there are a few rhythmic gymnasts and you can spot them straight away and they are very young. It's always great to be able to tumble and you don't need a crazy amount of hours a week training to achieve this.If your taking the musical theatre or contemporary route then it's worth while but older students studying ballet I dont think you would need any gymnastic at all.
  7. Suzyszoo- sorry I didn't mention but he is not at vocational school But this is very worth looking into more as it is obviously true for some boarding schools.
  8. My son started boarding this September and I noticed his school offer the same.I think it must apply to all boarding school. What a great discount.Very worth while looking into for those that don't get a mds.
  9. Well I done a 2hour zumba class on the beach,it was 42 degrees!I nearly died but just couldn't stop myself! At my dds ballet class in the summer they never put the aircon on and the room is like a sauna!after class the girls look terrible, don't think it helps with her ballet but the stretch class definatly makes them more supple
  10. Michelle- Fethiye is a fantastic place. There is a very large British expat community with lots of British businesses. Not sure about the dancing there but as I said Salsa is very popular.I live in Antalya which is 2 hours away. The people here are dance mad!most little girls do ballet, but not enough boys.We have Antalya state opera and ballet, not the best ballet but the musicians are world class.Lots of very good salsa dance schools and they are very busy.As I said before there is a very nice big mix of people who attend class and go to the salsa bars.
  11. Michelle- Also Iove doing group mareange!everybody gets up and we have such a great time!
  12. No problems with male dancers here, there are more than female!I love the fact that they are very fair and will dance with everybody weather old or young or good or bad.My husband can't dance but loves to come and watch me.I don't go to lessons any more but love going to the bars and dance,I'm the same,I dance all night non stop! The best part is that the bars are on the beach with the music and stars and nobody is embarrassed to dance. If you want a salsa dancing holiday this is definatly the place to come.
  13. Michelle- In turkey salsa bachata and merengue are very popular!we have fantasic teachers and schools and normally after class(which can be every day if you want)you can go to the local bars and practice all night!great atmosphere and they are really good.My very good friend is the Turkish champion and I'm not bad myself!!love it.
  14. I agree totally with what everyone has said. The dance schools where I live all have CCTV and the children know and don't seem to have a problem. The only time it's switched off is when rehearsals or run up to exams are taking place. I thought it very strange when I first saw the CCTV with all the same thoughts that everyone has mentioned. My dd always questions me and asks,"what was we doing today?"she loves me watching and gets upset if I don't!it is lovely though to see her dance and see the progression.
  15. I would wear what they ask for.It might seem strange but when I danced certain styles (years ago)it made me feel more comfortable keeping in the style and I think it looks better wearing the right shoes, but that's just my opinion
  16. Michelle,I am currently living in Turkey! I would have to fly abroad for class!even though there are very good teachers and so many children doing ballet here,no chance for adults!I did do one class with my dd once, even though I loved it I think the parents thought I was even more crazy!!especially as they can watch on the t.v. Lol. Taxi, yes,I am very lucky to be able to watch my dds class!and all the dance schools have t.v.s and very nice waiting rooms with cafe and sofas.
  17. Oh how I wish there were ballet classes for me, no chance where I live!I'm so gealous but love reading your posts xxxx but I do get the next best thing and that's watching my dds ballet class. They must think I'm mad as I'm the only mum who watches the whole class every lesson without fail from the tv in the waiting room!
  18. What about finals?does anybody know roughly how many make it?
  19. What age do students start to partner? Are there students male and female that just cant do lifts? If so what happens?
  20. By the way,I'm not thinking of doing that!!!just curious
  21. Does this mean that if you moved to Scotland for 2 years before you could then be entitled? Can people in Scotland get mds for English vocational schools?sorry I'm not in the UK so I'm a bit unsure.Would this be true,if we moved to Scotland 2 years before we could then try for free vocational training and also try for mds in England?
  22. How many ballet and other dance forms do they get to do per week?thanks
  23. What type of standard is the modern?is it like a class with exercises and a combination at the end?thanks
  24. Apart fom a ballet class and a song what else is in the audition?thanks
  25. Thanks for the replies. What would be good exercises to strengthen the turnout? Should youngsters stand in their full turnout or should they use a little less until they are strong enough?thanks xxx
