  1. This production begins touring today. The first performance is at the Albany Theatre in Coventry. When I can I will post the tour dates ( can't do it from my current device!). However tour dates can be found on the website. www.ballettheatreuk.com
  2. Dh travelling to JAs with ds. Loads of bun heads get on all full of themselves bragging loudly about their dance ability, schools etc. Ds quietly unbuttoned coat to reveal RBS JA sweatshirt. Whole carriage goes silent! (A good ten years ago now!)
  3. I'd cast a spell to bring Anjuli back.
  4. I don't think students and parents always realise just how much we teachers care. Oh the sleepless nights I've had.....
  5. And don't forget that many students end up going later on (eg16) instead having still maintained their standard. I had one student who was being invited to funding finals at Tring for years 7-10. She never did get funding but it was her way of checking that she was still good enough. ( She is doing something else now!) Another student was lucky enough to have her parents pay for the first few years and then secure funding. She is also doing something different now. Congratulations to the yes folks, exciting times ahead. To you who are currently nos then rejoice in the fact that you have your children at home for longer and you can save for the future!
  6. They are not being assessed on clothes! Nice tracksuit sounds fine to me. Don't you dare send the lad in more formal wear!! And good luck.
  7. I got round this problem by asking lots of questions to stall for time.... Mind you they were genuine concerns. I even asked for (and got) another visit to WL before I would consider accepting the place! Such a long time ago now.
  8. All these young ladies are so lucky to have parents who will and are able to fund these incredibly expensive shoes. I had no choice but to make do with one pair a term whilst in full-time training! Luckily I had very square feet and they became very very strong....
  9. Thanks Janet! Enjoyed reading that!! Will send link to ds and girlfriend!
  10. The jazz teacher is an important member of the panel and her opinion is greatly valued, it could be that she has been tasked with assessing the solos, looking for performance quality and versatility. The panel will have already assessed actual technique.
  11. It's very sensible to do at least a term of Advanced foundation as good preparation for advanced 1. And it sounds as if you are doing very well in terms of hours per week danced, particularly in non syllabus classes. Remember that when you audition what matters is what how you dance on the day, not what grade you've passed. It sounds to me as if you will be working at advanced level when it comes to upper school auditions and therefore you will have a good dance vocabulary, meaning that you should be to anything that's asked of you!
  12. Even if your daughter had the most suitable feet I would say that 10 is way too young as the bones are still soft, no need to tell you that foot bones keep developing until early 20s! And if she isn't going to be a professional dancer ( and let's face it very few make it, even if in full-time vocational training) why risk it? I don't think at this age sports would interfere with her dancing development. And the Ballet training will help enhance the sports. But if you have already been told that her feet are wrong (and size 7 won't be easy to cope with en Pointe) then I am rather surprised that she is being invited to do Pointe classes. Especially aged 10!
  13. Northern Ballets Swan Lake was the first production shown at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre when it opened I think in 2010. Super venue to see them!
  14. I do was extremely disappointed when I saw them, although the young lady who danced the lead was worth every penny, the rest was very average. It was also unintentionally very funny and I had to put my fist in my mouth at one point... But if they are introducing an audience to Ballet that's great. My sadness is that many theatres will host them instead, rather than as well as, of other companies (in particular British ones)
  15. It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I write that my dear friend and colleague, Mary Schon, who was also my co-director of Harpenden Summer Dance School passed away early yesterday. Anyone who ever came into contact with her will know what a charismatic, lovely, fun person and teacher she was. We actually taught each others children before setting up the summer school in 2005. She and I so enjoyed teaching on the Summer School and were so grateful to all those who supported us, some of you from this forum. I do hope that people will understand that I have therefore decided that 2015 was the 10th and final year of Harpenden Summer Dance School. Thank you. Mrs Helen Brewer
  16. I'm going to have to rewatch it for that glimpse now Julie!
  17. I just hope it sells. Ticket sales for the Aladdin tour were poor which was such a shame because it was a lovely Ballet. It's such hard work selling Ballet and Dance outside London unless you're a Russian Swan Lake!
  18. Wow! My "like" was for the good news bit not what you've all been through! Really feel for you, glad you managed to get your ds away and so glad he didn't give up. Vaganova's gain!!
  19. That's right one of my pianists does have the sheet music but I am assuming you want a recording? It's unlikely but I will look and see if I have my old cassette!
  20. This is the 21st century. No dance teacher any where should be using such appalling methods. The best students do not learn this way, they are crushed. Now I've been around a long time, in vocational training myself and then my son. And yes I've witnessed many examples of poor teaching but NEVER physical assault either threatened or actual. As a young teacher 25 years ago I was mortified when "a tap" on the bottom was too hard. Fortunately both child and mother accepted my apologies and I have been ultra careful ever since. But it seems that this teacher is actually threatening to hit her pupils! This teacher should be reported.
